I hate when men do that when you are discussing something. It's like they are trying to make you not equal to them by coddling you with a term of endearment. Get out of MI waffleman! You don't want there votes, then they don't want you.

The lid slowly closes on his coffin. OMG this is so bad. He is clueless about the quiet desperation of working people in this country. I believe it is about ready to explode. These folks don't want hopium and he can't offer them anything else.
So he won't spend time with sweetie again and hear the concerns of the auto workers in in MI. West Virginia is not part of his general election strategy...was WV not part of the 50 state strategy or the 57 state strategy?

Exactly. My issue has been from the day I voted for Hillary in MI that Obama CHOSE not to be on the ballot. The only state where he REMOVED his name. He didn't have to - he chose to. Nobody here seems to get it how offensive that is. They keep talking about he's fresh and new - but he played a political game here by taking his name off. If he had left his name on, we may have had the possiblity of our actual votes being counted. He killed that. I'm so sick of hearing how "wonderful" he is. Even people who I thought would understand, are ignoring this important fact. I'm frustrated here in Michigan! (as you can tell)
Can someone please send this video to Fox, et al.? My computer is moving very slow today! (another point of frustration!):(

Son-of-a-frickin' b--ch!!! That guy is something else!!! He is a sexual harassment suit waiting to happen. You absolutely cannot say things like that anymore to people.
And you are all right - he had no answer about WHAT he was going to do to help the autoworkers. And notice how they started hustling him out? That's because he HAS no answers!
Does anyone remember the story about the lady he offered a kiss to if she would switch her "Hillary" button for an "Obama" button? Is that on record with a newspaper or anywhere? Or was it someone here who witnessed it? If I can get the info, I'll write up an opinion piece on the train wreck waiting for him and the DNC!!

No, he's in his arrogance. It is never correct to call a woman reporter doing her job and asking a tough question "sweetie." From thefreedictionary.com:
sweetie
Noun
Informal
1. an affectionate name to call someone

but he played a political game here by taking his name off. If he had left his name on, we may have had the possiblity of our actual votes being counted.
There's no doubt that Michigan's primary race was a mess but I don't see Obama's argument for being allowed to have any more MI delegates then he'd be awarded based on the results of our January primary.
In Florida and Michigan Hillary agreed not to campaign and she honored that. Obama campaigned with his "nationwide" campaign ad that Dean said was acceptable (???!!!!) and he made the "Be a Democrat for a day" campaign in Florida.
In Michigan Obama chose to take his name off the ballot although doing so wasn't required by the DNC. Hillary said that she wouldn't. She didn't campaign but once again Obama did...which NO ONE seems to bring up. If the below radio advertisement isn't an Obama campaign ad then I don't know what one is!
MALE: THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IS CONFUSING. I WANT TO VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA BUT OBAMA'S NAME IS NOT ON THE BALLOT
FEMALE: THERE IS NO ONE ON THAT BALLOT I WANT TO BE PRESIDENT.
MALE: WELL, THESE FOLKS CAN HELP US. EXCUSE ME, CONGRESSMAN CONYERS AND COUNCILWOMAN CONYERS, WE NEED YOUR HELP.
FEMALE: HOW CAN WE VOTE FOR OBAMA ON TUESDAY?
Rep. Conyers: YOU CAN'T. YOU CANNOT EVEN WRITE IN OBAMA'S NAME. IF YOU DO YOUR VOTE WILL NOT COUNT BECAUSE OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN CHOSE NOT TO PLACE HIS NAME ON THE MICHIGAN BALLOT SO AS NOT TO VIOLATE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY RULES BUT YOU CAN VOTE UNCOMMITTED
Councilwoman Conyers: IF AT LEAST 15% OF THE PEOPLE VOTE UNCOMMITTED, THE STATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY MUST SEND THAT PERCENTAGE OF DELEGATES TO THE NATIONAL CONVENTION UNCOMMITTED.
Rep. Conyers: MY WIFE AND I ARE VOTING UNCOMMITTED. WE WILL WORK WITH THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY TO MAKE SURE THAT UNCOMMITTED DELEGATES GO TO THAT CONVENTION TRULY UNCOMMITTED SO THAT OBAMA CAN COMPETE FOR THEIR VOTE.
MALE: THANK YOU CONGRESSMAN CONYERS AND COUNCILWOMAN CONYERS. I WILL JOIN YOU AND VOTE UNCOMMITTED ON TUESDAY.
FEMALE: ME TOO - AT LEAST MY VOTE WON'T BE WASTED
Councilwoman Conyers: THIS TRUTH IN POLITICS MESSAGE WAS PAID FOR BY FRIENDS OF MONICA CONYERS
And Howard Dean considers that a public service message explaining how the Michigan primary vote works this year

HE is a PIG.
I had a high school Algebra teacher who would force me to sit in the front of the class on the days that I wore skirts or shorts. He would always catch me at the door of the classroom before class started and say "Well, sweetie today's a hard lesson that you'll need to pay extra attention to. I think you need to sit in the front row to day." I was sent to the office so many times for refusing to sit where he wanted and in turn I failed the class. I took the same course the next semester from another teacher and passed with a 4.0. Obama so reminds of this teacher. He treats woman (and many men) with total disregard and thinks that by using an endearing term that he can then gain control of them.
Widening the divide every day!

The only time I call somebody "sweetie" is if I'm close with them. Calling somebody you don't know "sweetie" or "honey" from a male to a female, is degrading and it turns me off.
He never did answer the reporter's question. The woman reporting says right off the bat "The auto workers got very little time with him" And he was just simply asked how he was going to help the auto workers. What is so wrong about that question??!! Oh right, it's because he can't answer it. That's the real problem. It was strictly a photo op and to make a speech. He doesn't give two craps about these people. Hillary would have talked about how she was going to help them. But she speaks for the people, unlike him. My god, I cannot believe he's close to being our nominee, what a joke.

Yes, he did make those comments here in PA. This is exactly what happened:
These were campaign stops in Allentown and Scranton on April 1st. While touring a factory in Allentown, he flirted with the women there, addressing them as "Sweetie" and "Beautiful". Later that day in Scranton, he came upon Denise Mercuri, a Dunmore pharmacist and Clinton supporter, proudly wearing a Hillary campaign button. He approached her to find out what he had to do to get her vote. His offer? Getting down on his knees, and a kiss.

To me it is NEVER OK to call a professional woman 'Sweetie' unless you are her husband or love interest and even then it would not be OK to call her that in front of others. What BO did is demeaning and it was a way to make her appear 'less than' her male counterparts.
Would he have ignored a male reporter? Maybe...even, probably. But I'm fairly certain he would not have called a male reporter 'Sweetie' (but then, who knows...).
And I've never heard of Hillary offering to kiss a male BO supporter in exchange for his vote. She has far too much class.

However, when my partner and I were in a restaurant and the young waiter, could have been my own son, called us girls..that was different. I finally told him he should stop calling us girls unless he was expecting a little boy tip:D
No when you are campaigning calling women sweetie and dear are out of line especially in this circumstance.
This is only part of the picture, the total ignoring of people who want to know what he is going to do for them. You would think since he has not campaigned there, and he is having trouble with working class voters, he would stop and chat.
You could see the anxiety and worry on their faces about the economic situation they face. But no he runs..

The bottom line is this; when you are a professional man (senator), and you are addressing a professional woman (reporter), "Sweetie" is not only condescending and dismissive, it is derogatory. If they worked for the same company, and he did that to her, she could file a complaint.

Exactly. Obama is operating in a professional capacity. Calling someone "sweetie", "honey", "love", is not only NOT professional but it's patronizing, demeaning and very sexist as hell! It's a big problem for me that a man who wants to be President is so stupid not to understand or care that his sexist remarks sends out all sorts of embedded messages.

Whoa! I LOVE that reporter's spunk and courage! I used to be a reporter when I was in my 20s and I don't think I would have known what to do if I had been patronized like he patronized her. She was very smart to point out that "this sweetie" never got an answer. Can we get this woman to replace Chris Mathews, Timmuh Russert, or Keith O???

The rub here is, he said it with a patronizingly superior attitude, he had no intention of answering her question.

The condescending remark is bad enough. I suspect his trip to Michigan is to CHA if/when a revote occurs. Is he campaigning for the GE or for the primary? I think a revote is unlikely, but I would never turn my back on that guy. He is more crooked than Richard Nixon, IMO, and I don't doubt that he has an enemies list too. Oy...

The lid slowly closes on his coffin. OMG this is so bad. He is clueless about the quiet desperation of working people in this country. I believe it is about ready to explode. These folks don't want hopium and he can't offer them anything else.
I supposed we should have expected this. He has no ideas about how to solve the real problems in America.

He doesn't know much at all, so he's forced to dodge questions that he's not prepared for. He gave a speech at Macomb Community College here and he was just reading off all these meticulous facts about the auto companies, I hoped no one actually believed he was an "insider" from that speech. He is nothing without his staff of speech writers, strategists, managers etc..

As a Michigander...
I once thought Obama was a decent guy, maybe even someone I could vote for in the general, but his constant snide remarks about my state, his constant pummeling of the American auto-industry, and his state surrogates who blocked a revote totally showed to me what kind of person that he is.
He wouldn't even consider a revote, which is a concession enough. Our votes should have been counted, but if that couldn't happen the least he could do is let us revote.
He has the gall to come to my state and stump around like some celebrity?! Obama, go home. This is why he's only gotten 2 superdelegates in all of Michigan who've committed to him. I wish our governor, Jennifer Granholm and an ardent Clinton supporter, would have told him he's not welcomed in Michigan.

The reason the UAW, the largest union in the nation, hasn't endorsed Obama, even as the frontrunner, is pretty obvious.
BTW, looking this silly apology:
Hi Peggy. This is Barack Obama. I'm calling to apologize on two fronts. One was you didn't get your question answered and I apologize. I thought that we had set up interviews with all the local stations. I guess we got it with your station but you weren't the reporter that got the interview. And so, I broke my word. I apologize for that and I will make up for it.
Second apology is for using the word 'sweetie.' That's a bad habit of mine. I do it sometimes with all kinds of people. I mean no disrespect and so I am duly chastened on that front. Feel free to call me back. I expect that my press team will be happy to try to make it up to you whenever we are in Detroit next.

But Obama being called "boy" is?
Remember the big hoopla abut a month ago when a Repub said something to the effect that "that boy won't be ready to have his finger on the button"?
The point is that over on the NY Times blogs, we're reading things like, "Get a life, sweetie. Just move on..." -- from Obama supporters who just DON'T GET IT. It hardly matters whether THEY think it is sexist, the point is many women DO find it sexist. Obama quickly recognized his mistake, acknowledged it, and moved on. His supporters have not.

It is not the word "sweetie" as much as the tone, which is usually dismissive, like "I am busy right now, while he pats me on my head and says "'run along now sweetie". “Hold On One Second, Sweetie” -Obama to Reporter
By Proof on May 14, 2008 at 03:01 pm No Comments Yet
Obama has apologized for the demeaning way he addressed a reporter recently, then seemed to indicate that this demeaning behavior is habitual!
“Senator, how are you going to help the American autoworkers,”
Agar asked Obama.

of course it's habitual because he sees himself as somehow superior to women ... the same as the rest of the Democratic Elite.... why do you think they are sticking together in hopes of defeating Clinton... I think women everywhere need to band together with the help of us male friends and kick the crap out of him before this Primary season ends... The problem is the younger women don't see this as sexism because they've no clue. Hence, why do you think they're so giggly over Bambi.

He just can't keep it inside.
You know what I saw in that video?
At the end, as the reporter was coming back to ask her question again, he glided past her without even acknowledging her existence. The contrast with Jesus was compelling. I'm not one of those extremists who are hailing him as the Anti-Christ; but he is marketing himself as a messiah, a savior from the world of human politics who will deliver us to some utopian, post-political society -- a man who will save us from ourselves.
This is truly dangerous; and few people notice, because few people today attempt to ferret out the philosophical foundations of what people say and do. If Obama isn't sufficiently competent to exploit the kind of deference and power he is being accorded, there are others around him who won't have a problem doing so. I don't know which would be worse: a competent demagogue, who will sacrifice the public and its interests for his own ends; or an incompetent one, who cannot control those around him, who are much less susceptible to scrutiny and who can thus do far more harm.
I think of Obama as a sort of Anti-Messiah, one who has no allegiance to the truth, and who will as soon abandon you as embrace you, if and when it suits his purpose.

It's funny you should mention this... after a conversation with my German grandma (who is a US Citzen now) she grew up in Germany and remembers how Hitler got so powerful.... she thinks it's the same as Obama now. If I remember right, Hitler didn't rise to power solely on the strength of his oratory. He had the assistance of the mercantile class, the movers and shakers of industry -- forces who thought they could use him for their own purposes, much like the media and the AA community have done with Obama. Little did they know ...
Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.
You know, it is quite unusual, in my personal experience, to feel a physical revulsion when I see someone on the television screen. I mean, I'm in my 50's, and I don't think I'm particularly susceptible to flights of visceral fancy. But Obama is one of those few people who have impacted my life who provoke this kind of response. I note in passing that physical revulsion is a not uncommon human response to an encounter with some great horror or depravity -- evil, on a grand scale. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this response to Obama. Contrary to the impressions left by the entertainment industry, real evil is essentially banal -- tiresome, by nature, in its essential emptiness of meaning. Its more familiar, horrific manifestations are secondary. Obama is exactly the sort of manifestation one would expect evil to take: the most gorgeous empty suit you've ever seen, feeding the starving on smiles and dreams and wishes, and empty words.

What bothers me more than the epithet of "sweetie" is the dismissiveness of his response. Can you imagine Hillary acting like this? I can't. And I don't think it's just his smug arrogance that leads him to so many "talk to the hand" encounters; it's also his lack of substance/knowledge. He's got nothing, as Jon Stewart would say.
What a disaster he'd be for the country. Possibly much worse than Dubya.

I'm 52, and I can relate to the visceral response thing. The older I get, the more often it happens. I've been repulsed by him from the outset. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080515/POLITICS01/805150376
Obama sorry for 'sweetie' remark
Video of candidate using word to describe local reporter a hit on YouTube, stirs debate.
The Detroit News
STERLING HEIGHTS -- Barack Obama came to Michigan to make nice with the auto industry. He left apologizing for what some online call his "sweetie problem."
For the second time in a month, the Illinois senator referred to a woman as a "sweetie." In April, it was a factory worker in Pennsylvania. Wednesday, it was Peggy Agar, a persistent WXYZ-TV reporter who asked what he'd do to "help the American auto workers" as Obama toured the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Sterling Heights.
Obama's response -- "hold on one second, sweetie" -- instantly became a cyber-sensation, with video of the exchange attracting more than 9,000 hits in a few hours on YouTube and prompting debate on the New York Times Web site and political blogs such as Wonkette.
..........
And, the video:
YouTube - Obama: Hold on one second 'sweetie'
The reporter is a trooper, and kind of brushes off the remark in her response to the Detroit News, but you know she was angry.
What blows my mind is that Obama is either so dumb or so arrogant that he thinks an apology is "oh, I have a bad habit of". Really, you have a bad habit of making sexist remarks? Are you that dumb to admit that? lol
ClintonOrBust
05-15-2008, 06:07 AM
I agree, that was condescending, even though the woman herself didn't seem to be too offended. Hell, at least he called to apologize.. I think most politicians wouldn't have thought twice about it.
But, he never answered her question.. wtf? That concerns me more here; why would he dodge it if he knew the answer?

Oh she was very offended and made it known through her comment at the end. She was in a professional capacity and she let enough out to let me know that she was offended beyond measure.
Maybe it some communication style that some men don't get when listening to a woman who is really ticked, but yet needs to remain cool and collected. The stereotype is to expect that a woman would go off the deep end and start throwing dishes around in some rant. Rarely happens especially in the work environment

It can be a term of endearment, to someone you know, wife, girlfriend, ect. It is sexist to say to a stranger, and apalling to say to a reporter.
How long until he calls someone "little lady"?

There is also another segment "Obama/Agar Sweetie" where she is practically fawning because Nobama telephones her to apologize for not answering her question and using the term Sweetie. The two reporters diffused the comment and Agar said she was not offended! Bet Nobama had some choice words for Agar after he got off the telephone. Kool-Aid infused in the air!

after I heard the news here and uploaded it on youtube I wrote the media as well as posted it on political boards as well as craigslist in OR and KY and put it up on yahoo politics chat. I noticed it took off being on Fox 4 times yesterday and CNN 2 and CSpan 1. I also seen the 57 state gaffee making its way around CNN and Fox
BTW I have had 1122 views of his sweetie video on my you tube so the word is out

WHAT a SEXIST thing to say.
This is just like the bitter comment, Obama let his guard down and the his REAL thoughts and views on women in power came out, unchecked. We need to get this onto MSM, someone known to be a champion of women's issues? Any suggestions on who to email this to?

Figures, BBC picked up the story and not MSM America. Keep blogging, linking, and emailing MSM until they run with it too.

But it seems the Media dismisses it as nothing major and not offensive.

I think he uses this term towards some women when he's irritated or aggitated. He sure get's that way quite easily with the presses questions:( There is no way he should get this way from logical questions from reporters.

We have devolved in the US as far as gender relations go.
Reasons:
1) Immigration by people who do not regard women as equal to men
2) Men such as Obama who go to churches where women's equality is viewed as a religious problem.
3) Women who are hired based on looks and not merit.
You have to see this from today in Michigan:

click on "Obama at Chrysler Plant in Sterling Heights"
Obama avoids the question on what he's going to do for autoworkers and offends the reporter. Listen to her remarks!

Ok guys, I need your help.
I had to turn off comments approval in this youtube video, because there were too many to deal with:
YouTube - Obama: Hold on one second 'sweetie'
With over 344,000 views, it was impossible for me to keep up. Help me out! They've even started attacking me, the messenger. Post positive comments please!

Nearly everyone on Fox today was calling each other "sweetie". Interesting debates about the term, and its uses. Its okay sometimes, its not okay sometimes, maybe, sorta, etc.

I think, this "sweetie" had more to do with the way he said it (dismissively) than the word itself. I have called people honey before, (more of a southern thing I think) and haven't gotten anyone mad at me. Course I say it sweetly and with no disrespect (I personally NEVER want to be called ma'am, but that's just me).

Yes, Z's "sweetie" video has about 355,000 views! And of course plenty of robotic Obamabot diatribes which apparently qualify as "comments" on YouTube!

one of my mom's relatives works at that plant and was there... he said that Bambi didn't know his a*s from a whole in the ground and he babbled and talked non sense a lot and everyone was really ready to see it end! He said the whole thing was clearly a photo op which didn't go to smoothly for him. Many weren't too happy to see him there!

good to hear and so true about the photo op...trying to look like he fits in is not very easy for him though.

He drips distain. His arrogance and distain is so apparent, and I will never understand how people can support him.

Now people are not supporting him, he managed to pull biggest fraud in caucas and vote counting process. I am waiting when reality will give him slap.
