Title: "Obama vows to do what's right"
By WILLIAM MARCH and ELAINE SILVESTRINI
The Tampa Tribune
Published: September 30, 2007
TAMPA - Barack Obama hinted during a Tampa fundraiser Sunday that if he's the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, he'll seat a Florida delegation at the party's national convention, despite national party sanctions prohibiting it.
Obama also appeared to violate a pledge he and the other leading candidates took by holding a brief news conference outside the fundraiser. That was less than a day after the pledge took effect Saturday, and Obama is the first Democratic presidential candidate to visit Florida since then.
Obama and others have pledged not to campaign in Florida until the Jan. 29 primary except for fundraising, which is what he was doing in Tampa.
But after the fundraiser at the Hyde Park home of Tom and Linda Scarritt, Obama crossed the street to take half a dozen questions from reporters waiting there.
The pledge covers anything referred to in Democratic National Committee rules as "campaigning," and those include "holding news conferences."
Obama seemed unaware the pledge he signed prohibits news conferences. Asked whether he was violating it, he said, "I was just doing you guys a favor. … If that's the case, then we won't do it again."
Frank Sanchez, a Tampa Obama supporter who helped organize the fundraiser, said the encounter illustrates the awkward situation the candidates have been put in by the controversy over the state's Jan. 29 presidential primary.
That date - earlier than allowed by rules of both major political parties - has led to a threat of sanctions against both Florida Republicans and Democrats, and to the Democrats' boycott pledge.
"This wasn't planned," Sanchez said of the brief press availability. "He was going to the car, and he just went across the street for a moment."
According to Sanchez and Tom Scarritt, Obama was asked during the event about making sure Floridians have a role in the nomination, despite the DNC sanctions and the pledge. Scarritt said Obama responded that he'll "do what's right by Florida voters."
The DNC has threatened to refuse to seat a Florida convention delegation because of the too-early primary, which the Florida Legislature decided on last spring. But if a candidate amasses enough delegates before the primary to ensure the nomination, that candidate would take control of the convention, including the power to seat a delegation.
State Democrats are considering asking all candidates to pledge they would seat the state's delegation.
The boycott pledge was demanded by the four states - Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina - which are allowed to hold primaries before Feb. 5.

I bet Obama hopes that no-one remembers this article! In Sep 2007, in response to Florida being sanctioned for bringing their primary forward, Obama said he would do his best to get them seated at the convention and vowed to "do what's right by florida"!!! I bet he doesn't feel the need to fight for that cause now that he LOST FLORIDA and HILLARY WON. We should contact the journalists who wrote that article and ask them to interview Obama now and remind him of his 2007 pledge.
Obama spent $1.3 Million in Florida, more than any other candidate!

All that means is that that our votes still won't count, as they won't be included in the nominating process, but the delegates will get to hear his speech (of course) and get to attend some swell parties! ;)

This was the DNC's strategy all along.... F**K over FL and MI in the Primary so Clinton would be screwed over in the process and then seat them (their own way) afterwards... HOWEVER, they never planned on Hillary being so tough to make it this far under such extreme conditions. NOW, the FL/MI issue is having to be settled outside of the Convention! LOL Don't you love it when you can screw up someones wet dream!

Just heard Bill Schneider on CNN say that on 5/31 they will work out a deal as long as it doesn't change the outcome!!!!!
Then "people" will be happy!!
WHAT??
These guys really don't get it do they??????
Seating and counting as long as it doesn't change the outcome is the SAME and not counting and seating!!!

I said from day one that the DNC kept hoping Hillary would quit and then the matter of the Florida & Michigan delegates would be a moot point. Well here we are, May, Hillary is still in and they still have not done anything about Fl & Mich. Understand this, they are NOT going to seat those delegates. They will NOT do anything that helps hillary in any shape or form.

She sure as hell fooled them, they have no idea how tough she is!!!
*sighs*
The DNC still doesn't understand that they might as well hand FL and MI (with the exception of Michael Moore) to the GOP, no matter what bogus "solution" they try to come up with...

I don't understand why when I post it, the thread vanishes. I already said this, and it is gone.
He is all over Fl saying this. Because now he says he has it all sewed up, so it won't hurt him, and he claims credit. He thinks we Floridians are dumber than a bag of hammers too.

BO is a joke.
Unfortunately a joke that has to be taken very seriously. He poses a real threat. Listen to his statement that Iran "is tiny," "doesn't pose a serious threat." Listen to his rhetoric of "I will," "I will," "I will," and "you will have to...."

Yes, he does blow with the wind of political expediency. A very dangerous attitude for anyone running for the Presidency of the United States. Hillary stands firm, hold her ground on issues. Obama doesn't know what ground he's standing on.

He's insane. Fl voted for Hillary. He'll seat the delegates for himself? Listen up, Obama, FL didn't want you. Anyway, this won't make any difference. He'll never take FL, especially since he has and is still blocking the votes from counting, when Hillary won. That is NOT letting FL voters voices to be heard.

Viewers visiting WESH.com are angry, believing Obama isn't trying hard enough to count their votes because he lost to Clinton in Florida.
Patrick Finnerty asked, "Shouldn't you fight to defend rather than deny the rights of all Americans to participate in our election process?"

WESH is so biased it is not worth watching. I can only pick up the Orlando channels so I have seen them. They are awful.
I for one would like to know just how much money OB managed to get from his "kingly visit" to my state. None, I hope.

Our votes are legtimate..our Secretary of State certified them and Hillary was the winner.......Seems like my State should Sue the DNC....
only 1 good thing became of this fiasco.........we did get a paper trail for our voters.......isn't that what the DNC and Democrats wanted since 2000?
*******FL. Remember this Memo
Barack Obama doesn't care what Florida Democrats say on Jan. 29. Published January 16, 2008
In a memo released Tuesday, he reiterated his long-standing view that their primary votes will be worthless. And he vaguely charged that Hillary Rodham Clinton may violate her pledge not to campaign in Florida by holding events here later this month.
"We signed a pledge not to campaign in Florida before Feb. 5, and we're not going to campaign in Florida,"
Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee said. "But it is
disappointing that the Obama campaign continues to tell people that their voices don't count, that they continue to disenfranchise people. Hillary Clinton wants to be president of all 50 states."

***he didn't wantto count us then.but pandering for our votes now...does he think he "won" Florida?
It's time Obama was reminded of his original "vow".

But Murray we would have just misunderstood what that boneheaded vow was.
But Murray we would have just misunderstood what that boneheaded vow was.
Yes, it was probably a "misstatement" on his part. We are the stupid ones for not realizing that. Afterall, apparently, we all have sub-standard IQs.
