View Full Version : PLEASE READ: Submitting a news article? Please follow these guidelines!
We have more than 10,000 threads, 2,000 of which are about news articles/reports. It's impossible to keep track of material and effectively archive threads if people don't follow a few simply guidelines about titles. It's not productive to have a million threads about the same news article. To prevent this, and to make it easier for admin/mods to do our jobs, please follow these instructions when you submit a news article for discussion:
(May 21, 2008): "Title of Article" (Publication in brackets) - your comment if you have one!
POSTING LINKS TO ARTICLES
1. Quote: Please quote a sample of text from the article to give readers an idea as to what the article is primarily about. No more than three paragraphs, please!
2. Web link: Post the online link to where the article can be read in full - please don't post a thread about a news report/article & then not provide a link!
3. Comment/quote: Make a brief comment as to what the article is about or quote key statements/paragraphs to provide an overview.
4. Thread title: In the title of the thread, list the date of the article and it's title in this format as outlined below. If it is not done in this manner, admin/moderators have to change it to ensure that it follows this format & doing so is very time consuming:
(May 21, 2008): "Title of Article" (Publication in brackets) - your comment if you have one!

Thank you.
Over the last two weeks, I found it hard to get through the new posts. Also, I think we all need to search threads BEFORE POSTING. I think one day there were 5 posts on OBAMA's birth certificate.
Thank you.

I am making endless requests about such matters!
We merge as many threads as possible which are about the same item/topic.

I would like to add my thank you for the hard work the moderators must do to keep this Forum as organized as it is. I am somewhat new to the world of forums but have always found this one easy to navigate and so well maintained. It is a welcome respite each day. I can check in for a few moments and learn something or hang out for a while and share ideas. How cool is that!

(Date) "Title of Article" (Source) was the old request.
It's not that difficult, yet there are some people who still can't get it right. They give their thread some clever title and make you or the newly elected moderators do all the work, as far as titling threads are concerned. It's not right.
If you're going to start a thread, do it the right way.

It's the same people every time. They will continue to incorrectly title the threads they start, because they know you, Suzan or CGP will come behind them and clean up their mess.
It's really not that difficult to correctly title a thread. If they can't correctly title a thread, they don't need to be starting them.

Because it's easier to distinguish the sourced text from your own/original text.
The sourced text then appears in a box with a shaded blue background - it's much, much clearer.
I prefer the titles of articles (listed in the thread title) to have quotation marks around it ("title") again to make it clear that this is the original wording of the article and not something a member is paraphrasing.
(Thanks by the way for posting a range of interesting articles from various sources )
