I'm starting to think this is a good strategy on Hillary's part. Just like how Obama concedes states he knows he's going to lose, Hillary may be admitting he'll have the delegates so it won't come as a surprise. However, she has not conceded the nomination. Superdelegates can change they're minds and they don't vote until the convention where she can make her case. Also (God willing) they're might be that oh so special bomb.

Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe said Tuesday that once Obama gets the majority of convention delegates, "I think Hillary Clinton will congratulate him and call him the nominee."
I think that choice of wording is very telling. Superdelegates are not "convention delegates" unless they are at The Convention! :p So, yes, Hillary would have to graciously congratulate Obama if he is appointed the nominee at the convention, since that is only place/time that the nomination can be secured de facto (since neither have won the threshold number of pledged delegates).

The NY Times is quoting "some aides" of Senator Clinton as saying that she is giving a farewell speech tonight. And then there was that sound bite of Bill in South Dakota saying that this may be the last time he works as part of a campaign of this kind. I personally think people are reading way too much into these words. Is it the end? Is it a farewell? Of course! It's the end of the Democratic primary season and the relentless campaigning phase has drawn to a close; every vote has been cast and acknowledged. That doesn't mean it's the end of Hillary's candidacy. I have believed for months now that Hillary has an 11th-hour ace up her sleeve that will totally surprise everyone, so I am not counting her out just yet.

I keep reading, over and over again, posts that people are writing in here today. I can understand your frustration with the uncertainty of our candidate Hillary....
BUT... let me explain a few things to put some perspective on it all...
SHE HAS NO REASON TO CONCEDE.... WHY? HERE'S WHY...
1- There are 31 Pledged Delegates left today. Obama (even if he got all 31) doesn't have enough to claim the MAGIC NUMBER of PLEDGED DELEGATES to make him the presumptive nominee!
2- Clinton will still lead in the Popular Vote (this is a big deal)
3- Clinton has a MAJOR reason to go to the Convention if only on the grounds of the ruling surrounding MI. The DNC Rules/ByLaws Committee broke their own rules in awarding Obama delegates he didn't earn when he wasn't even on the ballot! That was a GROSS mistake on their part and an appeal to the Credentials Committee is likely to yield a different outcome for the MI decision!
4- NO MATTER WHAT YOU HEAR... SD's (Super Delegates) can't not physically end this race! MSM tries to hammer this point home on every news story! The fact is it's simply not true! the SD endorsements are just that right now endorsements. Their vote ONLY counts at the Convention. Their endorsement is currently NON BINDING until they vote at the Convention. This means they can change at any point until they vote! This is ONLY a perception thing for Obama at this point in time!
5- ANYTHING CAN CHANGE IN AN INSTANT! A day in the life of politics can seem like a year in real terms! Obama is a loose cannon with skeletons galore in his closet. The DNC is scared to death if Hillary stays in what could happen to their beloved Obama before the Convention. SO, why do you think everyone is so hell bent on getting her out of the race now! Nothing has changed... this has been their approach for several months now so why should anyone take it anymore serious today then a month ago?!
I mean Obama's approach to this whole election has been money. He thought he could buy his way to the nomination and outspend Hillary at every turn... I think this is where both he and the DNC underestimated Clinton. Luckily for her she had her own money and was willing to use it! It seems trying to outspend her hasn't worked and using the MSM against her hasn't worked so they're probably at wits end to try to figure other avenues to get her out of the race!
6- Clinton is the only one that can effectively end this race! She's in control of the situation right now. Even though she's not entirely in the drivers seat... her present position should be enough energy to propel her to stay positive/focused and driven to finish this out....
7- My belief (and I think the DNC fears this too) is if she takes this to the Convention she's going to walk away the winner! You have to understand the rules at the Convention. If the first vote for the nomination (among pledges) comes back without a clear nominee and she can take control of the floor... she can immediately call a second vote and pluck off some of his (fence sitting) pledges who will become UNPLEDGED after the first vote. The Convention is all about skill and control and (she's been there twice before with Bill and knows better then Obama how this works) so I'm sure the DNC must be pooping their pants at the thought of what this means if she takes this all the way!
SO MY FRIENDS JUST STAY FOCUSED AND POSITIVE ON HER PROSPECTS.... DO NOT LISTEN TO MSM BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO DO.... THIS WHOLE THING IS UP TO HILLARY RIGHT NOW! IF I WERE IN HER SHOES I'D PLAY IT OUT UNTIL THE END!

I think passions are just flying high right now, Murray. Everyone is on pins and needles waiting to hear what direction Hillary will choose to take. I'm personally feeling that whatever she decides will be what will work to her own (and our) advantage in the end result. A story shows up that she has conceeded that Obama will get the delegate count, that's really not that far fetched at this point - but in no way would I look at that as her giving up completely... because that wouldn't reflect the non existance of a future floor fight.
Emotions are running really rampant for many of her supporters today. This is kinda expected and hopefully, understood and accepted.
Edited to add ... I've already set my DVR to record her speech tonight while I am at work. I want to hear what SHE has to say.

AP tally: Obama clinches Democratic nomination By DAVID ESPO and STEPHEN OHLEMACHER, Associated Press Writers
10 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday after a grueling marathon, based on an Associated Press tally of convention delegates, becoming the first black candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House.
Campaigning on an insistent call for change, Obama outlasted former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in a historic race that sparked record turnout in primary after primary, yet exposed deep racial and gender divisions within the party.
The tally was based on public declarations from delegates as well as from another 15 who have confirmed their intentions to the AP. It also included 11 delegates Obama was guaranteed as long as he gained 30 percent of the vote in South Dakota and Montana later in the day. It takes 2,118 delegates to clinch the nomination.

Associated Press should be taken to court for it's blatantaly false and dishonest "reporting" - otherwise known as LIES & PROPAGANDA! These "journalists" should be ashamed of themselves.
1. Neither candidate has 2118 pledged delegates
2. To win, one candidate will require enough votes from superdelegates to reach 2118 - this CANNOT happen until August

Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.
The former first lady was not ready to formally suspend or end her race in a speech Tuesday night in New York City. But if Obama get to the magic number of delegates, 2,118, she was prepared to acknowledge that milestone, according to aides who declined to be identified.
Obama is 37.5 delegates shy of clinching the nomination, but he is widely expected to make up the difference Tuesday with superdelegate support and votes in South Dakota and Montana. His campaign was announcing new superdelegate endorsements throughout the day Tuesday.

I think the hype today is going to make for big news when the "TAPE" does hit. Big news today saying Obama wins the nomination. Then tomorrow or whenever the tape hits, the news is even bigger because the tape has then hit against the democratic nominee. Am i on the right track of thinking here?

It's all over Fox right now. So he won't have enough delegates tonight to SAY he has won the nomination.
Don't throw stones at me because I'm not convinced myself I'd even vote for the ticket but if Hillary were to be VP, she could run as the presumptive nominee in 4 or 8 years for President. She'd have 8 years to campaign and do good things.
I understand most of us are pretty much opposed to this but I wonder about your thoughts.
I don't think she is even contemplating this, she is in this to be on the top of the ticket...period.
I love Senator Clinton, and I am behind her running for Pres and running for another Senate term because she would be in control of that position. VP is a position that is beneath her (IMO) and would be a waste of her talents. AND I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR OBAMA TO BE IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT...NEVER!

The AP tally was based on public commitments from delegates as well as more than a dozen private commitments. It also included a minimum number of delegates Obama was guaranteed even if he lost the final two primaries in South Dakota and Montana later in the day.

Maybe it will get them to stop running that Obama has clinched the nomination. Maybe they just gave them a new rumor to talk about. Change the subject. Let us just wait and see what Hillary does.
I believe that they are misinterpreting what she may have said, yet again:
Ausman said he was leaning toward Obama until a call from Clinton this morning. “She has hundreds of thousands of suppertors he needs and we need to work together,” Ausman said.
Ausman said he asked Clinton whether she’d take the VP slot. “She said she’d think about it.”

MSNBC Breaking News
WASHINGTON - Hillary Clinton has told congressional colleagues she would be open to becoming Barack Obama's vice presidential nominee, saying she would consider it if it would help Democrats win the White House.
Clinton, a New York senator, made the comment on a conference call with other New York lawmakers Tuesday, according a participant on the call.
The senator's remarks came in response to a question from Democratic Rep. Nydia Velazquez who said she believed the best way for Obama to win over key voting blocs, including Hispanics, would be for him to choose Clinton as his running mate.

Even if she did say this today, it's not new. She has said the same thing before. It's called "behaving in a unifying manner". It doesn't mean she is giving up and wants to be VP. How else would anyone expect her to answer the question? Say "no" and refuse to answer the question? Of course she has to answer in the affirmative, otherwise she would be wrongly accused, yet again, of being "divisive".

Read the words carefully:
she would be open to
Those words by themselves mean nothing definite at all. Now think about how the "press" has reported it. Is the reporting on par with the actual statement?
Does "will accept" == "would be open to"?
And yes she's said "would be open to" before. So what does it mean that's it's being reported as "breaking news"? What does that say about the source?
And personally I don't care. There's a primary going on..as well as SDs with decisions to make no?

I've never seen such hysterics over unsubstantiated rumors in my looong life. We will not know the complete truth about Hillary's plans until Hillary makes her speech. We will never know any complete truth about Obama because he probably doesn't know either. He's a con artist and from the way things look, he's surrounded by his own kind. One thing this campaign has taught me is that I can't believe much of anything I see on tv or read in the papers. I sure waited till late in life to make that discovery but it is loud and clear now.

Well, techincally speaking either Clinton or Obama will need the votes of superdelegates to move beyond the 2118 mark. The point is that the votes of the superdelegates can only be cast in August while the pledged delegates have already been awarded via the primaries/caucuses. So it's not possible to officially reach the 2118 until the convention when the superdelegates vote.

The AP story is incorrect. Senator Clinton will not concede the nomination this evening.

We won’t stop until Senator Clinton stops. Let’s keep the good fight going.
I say, that pretty much sums it ALL up!

That's a good combination then, because they won't vote and we wont' vote. So DNC will get what they deserve: President McCain.
Exactly. So.... Obama is cornered. He cannot unite the party.

If Obama picks HIllary for a running mate, he better have a lot of food tasters.... And he was laughing...
he was on with Lou Dobbs - He is a black journalist - I use the term loosely.
He just implied that Hillary would try to kill Obama.
Can we do anything with these comments. Is this not something that can be taken to court?

Can we stop listening to MSM please? We can't believe anything they said.
I'm with you Joey. If we know it's all lies and spin why even justify it by giving them the ratings. If you went to a restaurant and the food and service were bad and the people slapped you on the way out, would you keep going to that place?

Look, this is a serious comment, and it needs some recognition here. The man made a character assassination against Hillary.
If this was done against Obama, do you not think this would be all over the media.

I just came back from Hillaryclinton.com - they are ticked off over there as well. Somebody contacted the FCC asking them to look into today's news headlines as a form of voter suppression. Here is the link she provided if anyone is interested:

I think it might be a good idea to flood the FCC - what do you guys think?

I also saw this post on hillaryclinton.com - troll perhaps? Remember the name!
I like hillary and will vote for her if she win. Put I will vote for him too. His people want the same thing that we want to win. We should not hate them or Obama. We both want to win. He has not cheated, he just played a better game. He out raise us, he had a bigger picture! We Hillary supporter or fighter, but we also know what is best for the party to stop fighter when it is time. I think we should reach across the sand and work together for the good of those in Iraq, for my sister that can not get to work because gas it to high. Come on Clinton supporter we can make this happen. John Mccain will win in November if we do not get it together...do we really want that? NO.
Stop the fighting..... reach out the Obama supporters, if we want hillary as VP, we must heal and work with them. if we do not want to help her as VP then keep fighting and hating them, he will not ask her. So what are we going to do? I would like to see her on the ticket...you. Stop the hating of the Obama camp. Start reaching out to them. I have several obama supportes in my office and I have started reaching out to them so that they will be happy to see Clinton as VP. I need for all of you to do the same. His support will not want her if we do not reach out to them and stop blaming him for her lost. We did not fight for all 50 states and that was out mistake. We will not do it in 2012. We will work for all 50 States want we Hillary!

May I bring it to everyone attention of all the "breaking news" this morning, there were just words, just lies.
- Hillary will concede tonight.
- Hillary will take VP.
- Hillary will drop out.
- BO got the magic number.
ALL ARE LIES.
Remember this lesson. And next time, don't fall victim of these lies again.
