thanks for the heads-up. if you could post the details, that would be great; otherwise will just keep checking in at the McCain site for the follow-up info :)

He's definitely my Plan B, because before there can be any of the reforms we all care about, there must first be national security, and Obama is not qualified to be Commander in Chief of our military, plus has expressed some foreign policy ideas that are downright concerning, but I still want to keep listening to how McCain develops his positions on issues like attainable and affordable health care for more Americans.

I definitely am interested in the webcast. I'm in Oregon.

Re citizens for mccain -- is there a way to stay in touch with this group.
I'm having endless problems on the official McCain site -- my login keeps getting alternately recognized and then not recognized, so can read but not take part in blogs. I've left comments there, but no response.

Would that be eastern time? If so, it would be 12:30 pm out here in Oregon.

Thanks. .... Gosh, it's frustrating keeping up with things all via internet. No local groups here. Our small contingent of Hillary supporters are/were angry over the same DNC issues we've discussed here, but it appears most will go the "party unity" route. I'm working on them, but they seem committed that way except for one person who is on the fence.

I heard about the event as well: Saturday 3.30 PM.

Well I just emailed this question because it's been bothering me and I want McCain to squash it for the left wingers once and for all.

"I am a Hillary Clinton supporter who is looking to you for my plan B. There are many Democrats who are trying to sway me to your opponent by saying you candidacy would set back Roe Vs Wade. Please settle this once and for all for me and for them. What is your position on the right to choose and the right to life (Abortion rights). Personally I'm Pro life but not anti-Choice I believe the restrictions should be at least 18 with consent from parent if you're under age. But I think it's for the state's to decide any clarification would be great.
Thanks,

Folks, I'm sorry to say, questions are closed. I had to send the remaining questions off the folks who are trying to coordinate this web cast. I am hoping to have more details about the web link later on, or perhaps ssmith will come back on and post the details. I don't know the organizers personally (only through the blog world), but we all work so closely together that I feel like I know many of you.

The questions I got were well thought out policy questions. Many duplicates. I have no idea how the McCain campaign will handle the list we are giving to them. I don't know if they'll use all the questions or just a few. I have no idea if people in the audience will have first priority at asking questions, or if they will have the same question that you wrote in. So please be understanding if your question doesn't get asked.

It will be nice if this does go off as planned, to hear how Senator McCain is willing to reach out to us and if nothing else, the list we provided to the campaign will give the campaign and indication of what's important to this very important voting block called us.

i think they were upgrading thier website, " getting ready for the huge influx of democrats" the site seems to be working well now, most campaigns don't reply to comments because of the large amount they get. just send your comments they will probably get them. hillarys web site for posting was moderated so mccains is probably the same, they have to choose the best ones to post.

check cnn.com/live its constant streaming video all day/nite long. dedicated internet hosts. usually more than one choice of 'channel" to view. anytime one of the candidates was speaking and there was ANY tv coverage of it (via local station), CNN uplinked it in its entirety, NOT just the snippets they did on tv. only thing is, you need to view it in internet explorer i think. dont think firefox allows it. ok, i just checked the "calendar" on there site and dont see it, but thats not conclusive. alos, i think fox was something remotely similar but not sure and where to look if so. prob under videos.

I signed up as well but no call. This does not bode well for McCain. If he wants Clinton supporters he'd better have a team that can figure out how to make these kinds of things actually happen.

A live stream feed would have worked and if his people don't have the technology to make that happen they'd better figure it out.

I'm really disappointed because I wanted to listen in.

Good idea and one that needs to be floated to the McCain immediately because he is going to lose us quickly if we aren't going to be included. Not that we'll vote for Obama but there are those that will just stay home because they feel like they don't count. I don't happen to be one of those but I can't say that I'm particularly happy about this particular thing. I had planned my day around it, juggling schedules, etc. and now it looks like I can forget it.

Far as I know, the venue could not do live stream, so they're going to up up the meeting after the fact. If you were to get a call, you should have actually signed up on the Citizens for McCain page posted on page one of this thread by another blogger. However, that doesn't seem to be working either (nobody has gotten a call yet), so I don't know what to tell you all except that I apologize on behalf of the organizers. I emailed my contact to let her know that this did not go off as planned and asked her to post something out here later as to what went wrong. Best I could do, being I only know these folks from the bloggesphere.

Course, they could just be running late, too. Political events never start on time.

Your choice. You can either hang tight or wait for them to put the link up of the recorded session. I may duck out if I don't get a call by 4.

It's okay, better to get the wrinkles out early in this process. THANKS for the update. FYI - I signed up this morning on McCain's website with my phone #... No call and it's been 20 minutes, so feel free to pass that info on to your contact.

The McCain people called and said to hold for the teleconference and we heard music for about 5 minutes then McCain's voice came on and said "thanks for listening to the teleconference" and then we got hung up on.

Did this happen to anyone else and if so how can I reconnect?

LOL, ditto. I could have had them call my cell phone but I want to keep that number out of as many hands as possible. So I stayed home, and tick tock, no call!! Very disappointed... but am cutting them some slack. After all, they're charting new waters here... Democrats reaching out to THEIR candidate! What a world turned upside down.

I did sign up on the "Citizens for McCain" page. I'm going to hang tight for a little bit because I know sometimes politicians run late. I'll wait for about another half hour and then I've got things I have to get done to day.

Thanks, MaryKay. I know the people who put this together will appreciate our feedback and we'll work with them to figure out a plan to keep us all involved. McCain needs to pull some tech-savy Hillary people over to help with this.

Your choice. You can either hang tight or wait for them to put the link up of the recorded session. I may duck out if I don't get a call by 4.

Well, when I heard about this yesterday from Bernie's email I immediately emailed the addy they gave to sign up. Then this morning when I saw the other link you posted on this thread I signed up again.

Hey, not your fault no apologies necessary. They'll get it right eventually. Like I said above -- we need to clue them into the activate calling system!!

I agree. Well, they did throw it together in about a week. So that could be the problem. I got an email from the organizer only this week asking if I could help gather questions, and I kept emailing her and asking her for details, because they posted my gmail address but didn't give me any information. If anyone knows ssmith on here, maybe you could contact her. She had posted the links to sign up. I just sent her a private message.

I'm anal, so I hate disorganization. ;.) I hope he does get some techies on the task.

Oh, well...

SSmith,

I'm so sorry!!! That has to be really disappointing for you. Getting around DC is really difficult except for people like my husband who somehow has a serious "map" inside his head!!

I'm sure Sen. McCain will hold additional townhalls in that area so maybe you'll be able to go then. I am really sorry you missed this one though!

I like it as well. The only other thing that would be better would be to be there.

McCain just stated that when he becomes President he will make sure that we never torture another person in U.S. custody. That brought tears to my eyes because while I understand the military concept of torture, my basic human decency says we need to absolutely stop this practice! God Bless John McCain.

I got the call and didn't register or call in myself. I think they took all the supporters' numbers from their site. It was just like a regular phone call I was not really expecting. McCain said that he traveled on our money and many times with Senator Clinton as well. It was very interesting to hear him in that format.

I was out and tuned in late. There was some static on the line. I hope there'll be a transcript that we can post or one that will be available on Senator McCain's website.

I'm impressed that he is reaching out to Hillary's supporters. It definitely feels that he is doing more than BO who seems to be relying on the belief that we'll be "reliably Democratic Party voters no matter what come November". He and the DNC are making a major miscalculation.

The DNC and BO can try to paint McCain in unflattering terms but most of us know his life story and we respect him and it. His agenda, well, let's see what his priorities are.

Contrast that with BO, what we know of his life story, we're not impressed. Can we relate to his history? No. (I think that's why they've tried to focus our attention on Michelle's working class roots and her more compelling life story - too bad, she's such an ungrateful B#$%* - so, even if we were inclined to respect her parents' and how hardworking they were, it's a netzero due to her militancy and ungratefulness.)

And, even though he is spending time detailing some of his proposals, he doesn't seem truthful. He and his plans feel suspect. Is that due to questions about his background, his constantly changing positions, a sense that he has a secret agenda? I don't know and I hope that we won't get the chance to see what he would do as President.

Cross post from Draft_Hillary yahoo group.

I'm back from dinner after meeting with Sen. McCain and lots of Hillary supporters. It was a very nice, very good event! I really enjoyed it and liked chatting with a couple of McCain's people.

Lots of women there with full Hillary regalia. I took a bunch of photos
with my iPhone so if someone has a blog where they can be put up, let me know via email. I don't get this list via email, just on the Web. I think what I'll do is publish the photos on my .Mac account and then post the URL here so anyone who wants to grab some photos to put up on their blog may do so.

Harriet Myers (sp?) was there so I grabbed a photo of her with McCain.
The video of the event will be up soon on McCain's site, if it isn't already.

The audience was just about all Hillary supporters and some of us got to ask
good questions. The callers on the phone were all women from OH and PA, most from OH. One of the callers was a woman from Stubenville, PA, who was the fire chief there. McCain said he'd like to come visit her and have her show him around the town. She said she'd be very happy to. I can imagine her taking him aboard her fire engine and touring the town.

What impressed me about Sen. John McCain was how forthright he was, how decisive and direct in his answers. No hemming or hawing, no ums or uhs, just simple, direct answers without equivocation. IOW, he sure didn't come across as someone trying to sell you something. He sure as hell ain't no George Bush retread.

:)I got to hear the last 40 minutes of the call. I didn't get a call either. What impressed me the most was his willingness to sit down and discuss, and I felt is was very sincere. Much more than Obama, who thumbs his nose at voters. I get the impression he'd rather share an Arugula salad and a bottle of Pinot Nior from Whole Foods with Ahmadinejad than try to understand the people of Appalachia, who is must swear to protect and defend. Tell me if I'm wrong here, but to me, somone who wants to unify should find common ground. I see McCain as having the ability to do that, and I've decided I'm voting for him since they won't let Hillary take this to the convention...

However, if she comes back, so I do I! :)

Hillary #1
McCain #2

The pictures was taken by Ron, a member of Draft-Hillary group, I just crossed post it here for sharing. We need to keep the ball rolling.

Harriet Christian was there. She knew McCain. And McCain was very happy to see her. Ex-CEO of Hewlett Packard, Carly Fiorina was there. And she had only good words for McCain.

Looks like there were a few glitches in this one: Poor directions; phone dialer didn't work; number to call in wasn't posted or distributed. As someone who volunteered to help gather questions (I am not sure why we did that, as I didn't hear any of them read), I'm going to contact Citizens for McCain this give some friendly feedback on how to improve this process. McCain has got to appeal to the tech savvy gen X and gen Y voters, so I think it's important to get with the program.

However, thank those of you who posted the number here. I was able to listen to the last 40 minutes or so. I was impressed with what I heard.

No torture if he's president.
Does not feel a president should nominate a candidate for the supreme court on ideology alone like Senator Obama wants to do. Reminded us that he voted for Clinton's appointments and while he favors more conservative justices, first and foremost, he feels that these nominees must be qualified.
On Roe v. Wade, he's willing to sit down and discuss it, and thinks the country should in general. No straightforward answer anymore. Women today have so many more issues facing them than before, and while he has made his personal opinion clear, he would be willing to sit down and talk about it and thinks that's the course we should take.
Reason he wants to continue is Iraq is that he believes if we do not get the region under control, we'll end up back over there, engaged in a larger scale operation. Region will become even more dangerous. He said something along the lines of "You can debate whether we should have gone over there in the first place all day long, but now that we are there, we must honor the men and women who sacrificed" And something along the lines of leaving with honor and dignity in the world. Talked briefly about Walter Reed hospital. Said surge is working.
Wants to go and tour areas most hit by the economy. Invited himself to Ohio.
Sounds like he wants the states to decide if we can drill for oil by putting a vote out to the people. He said he favors doing so if it can be done in an environmentally safe way.
Said it's not fair to compare him to Bush as Move On wants to do. While he did support a number of things President Bush did, he differs in a lot of ways, including the environment, etc.

Again, that's my interpretation only and not in any specific order. Some may add or have different ideas about what was said. I missed what he said about Don't Ask, Don't Tell as our company arrived for father's day and I stepped away for a moment.

I really have the impression that McCain always treats people with respect and people do matter to him. I don't think that's just an act, as it is with BO.
