This is very sad. He was a young 58 years old and died of a heart attack while attending his sons party (he just graduated from college)
No matter what Tim's views are, he was one of the best and this news is truely sad.

Report: Journalist Tim Russert dies of heart attack
June 13, 2008 - 3:42pm
http://www.wtopnews.com/?nid=25&sid=1421678
WASHINGTON - Tim Russert, managing editor and moderator of "Meet the Press," died Friday after suffering a heart attack, The New York Times reports.
He was 58 years old.
Russert fell ill at the NBC News Washington Bureau on Nebraska Avenue in Northwest D.C. on Friday afternoon.
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter tells WTOP rescue officials responded to the NBC News Washington Bureau on Nebraska Avenue in Northwest at 1:41 p.m. and found an adult male in cardiac arrest. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Etter tells WTOP.
Sources at the NBC News Washington Bureau tell WTOP that the man was Russert, NBC's managing editor and moderator of Meet the Press."
Russert also served as a political analyst for "NBC Nightly News" and the "TODAY" show. He also anchored the "Tim Russert Show" on MSNBC and served as senior vice president and Washington bureau chief of NBC News, according to Russert's biography on the MSNBC's Web site.
In 2008, Time Magazine named Russert one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2005, Russert received an Emmy for his coverage of President Ronald Reagan's funeral.
Russert took over as moderator of "Meet the Press" in December 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen Orth, a writer for Vanity Fair magazine, and their son, Luke. The Russerts live in D.C.

Even though we may have come to disagree with Tim's reporting and attitude over the past year or so, I think we should keep in mind John Donne's words:
No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

yes, sad news to lose someone so young... I use to like Tim a lot however, his vitrole against Hillary and his abuse of the media for BIAS for BO was quite a turn off for me. I have sympathy for his family... and pray for his soul.
A few weeks ago Terry McAuliffe was on his meet the press show and thought that Tim's dad was deceased and was making some kind of analogy using their deceased dads only to discover afterwards that he had not died (Tim's dad) when Tim's response was "Well, Terri "Big Russ is really at home sitting in his bacalougner" so he is not in heaven looking down yet... " they sort of laugh it off... Terry made an honest mistake...

That said, I do feel badly for his family because something like this is really terrible to go through. My sister passed away from a massive heart attack 3 years ago at the age of 52. Completely unexpected.
I will keep the Russert family in my prayers and try to practice forgiveness in my heart - that is what the Lord would want. Although I am certain He will understand my inability to forgive the DNC and Obama (somehow I'm sure He's in complete agreement with me on that one).

Russert made Meet The Press. He regularly beats all the other Sunday morning political shows in the ratings.
I think Russert was an idealist - naive about politicians, which made him gulliable and susceptable to Obama's empty charm. I don't think Russert was intentionally biased in favor of Obama. It's just his all-american, patriotic, personality that made him easily fooled by Obama's lies.
He collapsed while recording a voice-over for MTP. And he had just returned from a family holiday in Italy. Very sad.

Meet the Press will have a gaping emptyness as he ruled the Sunday morning with his sharp interrogating tactics. The constant euologies spouting forth on the Fox net work are all gushingly positive and saying he was unbiased.
I do not believe he was unbiased, particularly with the Clintons.
I do not believe in speaking ill of the deseased, nor do I believe in saying positive things I do not mean. I have not liked what he has done lately, but I want to express condolences to his family.
I understand many times a fast rerun of one's life passes before our eyes right before we die. Few of us will enjoy EVERYTHING we see or what we have done, or accomplished.

I felt so frustrated by his bias for Obama but I think it helps to recall that he was probably the most exuberant, intuitive media person around. He never forgot his roots and celebrated his family and his hometown of Buffalo - and its football team at every occasion. I want to believe that his interest in BO had to do with his "newness" and rhetoric. We believe that he was taken in. I wonder when he would have understood that BO is not unlike the typical politician. Who knows, maybe his evolution had already started.
I choose to remember the Tim Russert of the night of the 2000 election with his famous whiteboard and again that exuberance as we all saw history unfolding.

I think about his wife and the son he adored and his 80-year old father, who survived him, and it's terribly sad. I also remember how much I once admired him, and I wish that hadn't changed during this primary. So much of my feeling toward the media has changed, and that's sad too. Russert was one of the giants in my eyes, and I really want to remember him for his unrelenting quest for the truth because that's how he was most for most of the years I watched him.

Say what you want about Tim Russert as a Pundit, which was obviously biased towards Obama, when he did Meet the Press he was all business and put aside his prejudices and treated both sides of an issue fairly and even-handed.
Tim Russert was a breath of fresh air to Meet the Press which had deteriorated to being handled by anchor talent rather than journalistic prodding. Instead of the soft questions, he did the research of all of his subjects and did not let them get away with spin or lies. If he caught guests, on both sides of the aisle, saying something contrary to previous stands on the issue, he would call them with their own quotes.
Personally, I cannot think of anyone in NBC capable of taking his place.
We may not have liked it when he played pundit with an agenda when visiting other shows or covering the election, but when on Meet the Press, he was the best and someone all the other networks looked to as an example.
For that, he will be missed by anyone who is a follower and student of good journalism.
In respect, Larry Mac

Very sad. My condolences to his family.
OMG!!! The guy was not exactly the nicest person to Hillary, but I feel so bad for him. One instant he's alive, and the next he's gone. It's one of those heart attacks that kills right away (not all heart attacks are fatal).
My condolensces to his family :(
His doctor said it was "coronary thrombosis." Gone in an instant is right. He sure did live a full life in only 58 years. I hope heaven is so great that he doesn't even feel disappointed about being called back so suddenly.
As someone whose dad died at the same age, my heart really goes out to his son, Luke. He has a lot of life ahead of him without his father. Ack, I can't even stand to think about how Big Russ will take it...and, of course, his wife.
When we see life playing out like this in the public arena, it reminds us none of us is immune. Prayers for the Russerts, and for everyone everywhere who has suffered a similar loss today.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment, and being only 5 years younger than Russert, I can identify with his general frame of reference. I agree with you (and Pat Buchanan) that he can't be replaced. Sui generis.

It's sad. My father is around the same age, and hearing the headline makes me realize that we should cherish whatever time we have together. Condolences to the family.

This is sad, sad day in American media. One of the brilliant guy is gone forever. It is tragic......
This is a lesson for all of us that we should never forget that no one lives forever, ultimately sooner or latter all of us will die. All of us know that life is too short and we humans are just like bubbles....our lives are just for few seconds and there we go....even then we love to torture other humans for our own selfish motives.......We start playing God and don't go easy on innocent people....
Anyway, Tim Russels's death is sad and tragic ,but, we should never forget there is God and we are not Gods.

An autopsy, performed on the day of his death, determined that his history of diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease lead to sudden cardiac death. The precise cause of death was a cardiac arrhythmia caused by coronary thrombosis of the left anterior descending artery, often called a widow maker in the medical field. On the special reports program, Russert's friend Dr. Nancy Newmann stated that the autopsy showed coronary artery disease in the left anterior descending artery, and a fresh blood clot was visible on one of these plaques. This was most certainly the cause of Russert's sudden death
I think he just came back from Italy, a long flight, clot must have moved to his heart.

My heartfelt sympathy to his family and all his loved ones. This is a stark reminder to all of us that life is short and we must remember not to take our loved ones for granted. Make sure to kiss all your loved ones near to you goodnight...and not take them for granted. We are not guaranteed tomorrow.

That I agree. His coverage of 2000 was most impressive as also many especially early Meet the Press session. He really cares and is passionate and that shows.
One of the rare shows on MSNBC that I did watch. In fact, one of the last times I switched TV was to watch him.
He worked hard. He was passionate. A bit taken in at times but that is probably because of his passion. I liked it that he was involved in the news.
R.I.P.
Tough time for the family. Condolences.

I'm very sorry to here about Russert's death, despite that he was very unkind to Hillary doing the Presidential Primaries, putting all politics aside, he's still was a human being, and I feel very much for the family and for their sudden loss, I send my Prayers and condoleses to all the Russert family and friends.

I'm freaked for Big Russ and Tim's son and wife. My dad also died at age 58, of cancer. Much too young.
I'm sorry to hear that, Julianne. It must be difficult to lose a parent, at any age.

I came online yesterday afternoon looking up directions to the place we were going to dinner and I opened up Yahoo and when I saw the headline I yelled 'OH MY GOD!" out loud like three times. Just completely shocking.
He wasn't my favorite person this year because of the things he said about Hillary, but he did a great interview with her, couple of them I guess, during this election. I had always loved Meet the Press, ever since the Clinton Administration days. And I'm just so stunned by this. My mom is going to be58 and this just shows you how precious life is.
I watched a bit last night and Andrea Mitchell was talking about how the members of the press don't take care of themselves, they work long hours, don't sleep, eat when they can, snack too much, etc. And she said that they really need to make an effort to take better care of themselves and each other. As much as I dislike Andrea, she was hitting on some good points.
So very sad, my prayers are with his family and friends. Lindsay Graham was supposed to be on MTP tomorrow. I have no idea who could do that job now. And I do NOT want to see KO replace him, that would not be honoring Tim at all.

I am exactly his age. I do, however, belong to a running club (I was at a biennial event with three runs recently when in South Dakota) and take care of myself over the last year better than I have in the past decade. But you never know, do you...

Yes condolences to his family. The odds are so very very high the way he died. It is unbelievable. Really really weird. I also think of the people in Iowa with the flooding. None of them really have flooding insurance for their home there because it is not suppose to flood in Iowa. Another weird thing.
