I received a video and request to sign a petition against FOX protesting their attacks on Michelle Obama from a representative of Brave New Films (of course a request for donations also). Here is what I wrote back.
Dear Mr. Greenwald,
I am responding to your request that I watch Brave New Films video entitled "FOX attacks Michelle Obama" and sign a petition in protest of FOX injecting racism, prejudice and fear into our political dialogue.
I must admit I am surprised to receive this note. I looked back through months of e-mails from you, and not a single one covered the topic of MSNBC's and other members of MSM sexist treatment of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton-and the sexism expressed in certain elements of the population and especially by Obama supporters. Comments like "iron my shirt" and the slogan "bros not hos", and the despicable statement by David Gergen that Obama would "need a food taster if he chose Senator Clinton as Vice President" have revealed a side of America that is as ugly as the racism you are concerned about, and again I find it revealing that the sexism did not even enter your radar screen.
As an African American female, I am certainly angered by to any racist attacks, but I also believe that Senator Obama has been the catalyst for even greater social division by age, race, sex and social class. Bush was the "Great Decider", Obama is the Great Divider. His overly ethonocentric election strategy and implicit control of the AA vote are at odds with the unity he orates about. But as Obama said himself some things are just said "in the heat of the campaign"-too bad we don't know which.
Of course Obama did not execute this strategy alone-Democratic Party Leaders like Donna Brazile bragging that the New Democratic Party is "younger" "more urban" sends a very divisive message that we older non urban Democrats are either unwanted or taken for granted. And the primary revealed the ugly truth that Democratic women are taken for granted. Eight years ago, Howard Dean said the Democratic Party needed to reach out to that "man with the confederate flag on this truck"-i guess we should have paid attention when he didn't include that guys wife, sister, daughter , or mother in his message.
I should also add that I am unable to donate to your organization at this time. My discretionary funds are being targeted towards PUMA Pac, helping Senator Clinton pay off her campaign debt, and supporting our plans to protest Obama's move to break tradition and prevent Senator Clinton's name from even being introduced as a nominee at the Democratic National Convention.
Sincerely,
