Honoring Hillary
July 19th will mark the 160th anniversary of the First Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, NY. Please join Hillary Clinton supporters along with advocates for and historians of womens' rights from around the nation on this historic day.
Our Mission is to celebrate Hillary's historic campaign by:
1) Wearing/Bringing our Hillary Gear to the public events at the Women's National Historic Park from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM on July 19th, and particularly the 5:00 PM speakers.
2) Holding a private reception in Seneca Falls, NY for Clinton supporters on July 19th, location TBA.
3) Signing a Declaration of Sentiments II to declare our celebration and support for Senator Clinton and the continued advancement of women in all fields.
What better opportunity for Hillary supporters to join together and show our appreciation for Hillary"s candidacy and for the women who have fought for equality and progress from the First Seneca Falls Convention in 1848 through the present day.
We hope you will support this event in whaever way you can. If you cannot attend, we would greatly appreciate your financial support so that we can subsidize transport and accomodations for others, and offest costs of our reception for Hillary supporters.
See you in Seneca Falls on July 19th!

Here is the significance of what they celebrate when honoring Hillary this year.
Three hundred women and men attended the Convention in Seneca Falls, NY on July 19 & 20, 1848, including Lucretia Mott and Frederick Douglass. At the conclusion, 68 women and 32 men signed the Declaration of Sentiments drafted by Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
~Declaration of Sentiments~
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one portion of the family of man to assume among the people of the earth a position different from that which they have hitherto occupied, but one to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes that impel them to such a course.
We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men and women are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights governments are instituted, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of those who suffer from it to refuse allegiance to it, and to insist upon the institution of a new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they were accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their duty to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of the women under this government, and such is now the necessity which constrains them to demand the equal station to which they are entitled.
The history of mankind is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations on the part of man toward woman, having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over her. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.
He has never permitted her to exercise her inalienable right to the elective franchise.
He has compelled her to submit to laws, in the formation of which she had no voice.
He has withheld from her rights which are given to the most ignorant and degraded men - both natives and foreigners.
Having deprived her of this first right as a citizen, the elective franchise, thereby leaving her without representation in the halls of legislation, he has oppressed her on all sides.
He has made her, if married, in the eye of the law, civilly dead.
He has taken from her all right in property, even to the wages she earns.
He has made her morally, an irresponsible being, as she can commit many crimes with impunity, provided they be done in the presence of her husband. In the covenant of marriage, she is compelled to promise obedience to her husband, he becoming, to all intents and purposes, her master - the law giving him power to deprive her of her liberty, and to administer chastisement.
He has so framed the laws of divorce, as to what shall be the proper causes of divorce, in case of separation, to whom the guardianship of the children shall be given; as to be wholly regardless of the happiness of the women - the law, in all cases, going upon a false supposition of the supremacy of man, and giving all power into his hands.
After depriving her of all rights as a married woman, if single and the owner of property, he has taxed her to support a government which recognizes her only when her property can be made profitable to it.
He has monopolized nearly all the profitable employments, and from those she is permitted to follow, she receives but a scanty remuneration.
He closes against her all the avenues to wealth and distinction, which he considers most honorable to himself. As a teacher of theology, medicine, or law, she is not known.
He has denied her the facilities for obtaining a thorough education - all colleges being closed against her.
He allows her in church, as well as State, but a subordinate position, claiming Apostolic authority for her exclusion from the ministry, and, with some exceptions, from any public participation in the affairs of the Church.
He has created a false public sentiment by giving to the world a different code of morals for men and women, by which moral delinquencies which exclude women from society, are not only tolerated but deemed of little account in man.
He has usurped the prerogative of Jehovah himself, claiming it as his right to assign for her a sphere of action, when that belongs to her conscience and her God.
He has endeavored, in every way that he could to destroy her confidence in her own powers, to lessen her self-respect, and to make her willing to lead a dependent and abject life.
Now, in view of this entire disfranchisement of one-half the people of this country, their social and religious degradation, - in view of the unjust laws above mentioned, and because women do feel themselves aggrieved, oppressed, and fraudulently deprived of their most sacred rights, we insist that they have immediate admission to all the rights and privileges which belong to them as citizens of these United States.
In entering upon the great work before us, we anticipate no small amount of misconception, misrepresentation, and ridicule; but we shall use every instrumentality within our power to effect our object. We shall employ agents, circulate tracts, petition the State and national Legislatures, and endeavor to enlist the pulpit and the press in our behalf. We hope this Convention will be followed by a series of Conventions, embracing every part of the country.
Firmly relying upon the final triumph of the Right and the True, we do this day affix our signatures to this declaration.

(((((((((((Sharkeye))))))))))) it hit me a while ago when they were going after her the way they were. Did you read her speech on that website from this event last year. I hope you go!! I'm going to try and get there if I have to take the bus or what! It's a pretty town and the museum is there.
It will be wonderful event in our history to be a part of.

I didn't only because I started crying and had to get over that little crying jag first. I felt like an idiot but it is just so disheartening to see so much of what all those before us marched and fought against be pushed aside like it was nothing. I'm going to go back over to the site and read it now.
If I can go, we could meet up if you can get there, too. I have to talk to my husband about this and then see about cost. I'll let you know!

I don't feel like an idiot when I cry over it. I watched "Iron Jawed Angel" a few weeks ago and thought how distraught Alice Paul would have been at what they did to Hillary. But she wouldn't have taken it without standing up to it would she? So neither are we. Yes, they cost women and the entire country a great loss if they get away with this.

I watched "Iron Jawed Angel" when it first came out and it was very emotional for me. I am one of the older members of this forum I am sure and I would love to be able to attend this convention but I am too far. Since I am a nurse I will be working this weekend but I am so excited for you. I can't wait to hear all about it and know that you will represent all of us. There is so much sexism in our society and its warriors like you who have the courage to scream and not give up so that our Hillary will be honored.

Lately it is been so hard and I find myself very angry by how Hillary has to be out supporting BHO and tolerating the humilation. I know how strong and smart she is. I just want Hillary to be our nominee so bad. So I keep writing letters, blogging the ignorant obot sites and reading everything I can. I will be with you on Saturday in spirit.

But we are NOT tolerating it. We are fighting back as she cannot right now. I with her till 2012 if I have to be. Because this race IS important and historic and they are treating it as if it means nothing to the women who REMEMBER all the injustices. Who STILL face them. I have said many times, come down to the shelter with me...talk to the woman whose husband is a police officer, so no one in her town takes her "allegations" of abuse seriously because "He's such a great guy all over town." It's THOSE women this MEANS something to. And it's those women who experience assaults on Hillary as abuse over and over. Those pundits on t.v. do not see what I see, what lots of us see, and remember, and KNOW.
Come to Senaca Falls and if you cannot come know that we are carrying a banner for YOU too. Don't back down....she can take the nomination or she will run again. No OTHER candidate can take her place.

Why couldn't Hillary make an appearance? She could attend as a private person (yeah, right) ;) Just her presence there would be AWESOME! I hope someone on this thread who is a New York resident makes an honest request - just like you'd invite her to a ribbon-cutting or something.
This would be such a "small" but significant way to honor who she is and what she has stood for and to let her know not everyone is taken in by corporate media and the propaganda machine currently known as the DNC. It's fun to think about anyway.

Sharkeye, Rochester is your best bet. We have AirTran and JetBlue here, plus UsAir, United, Delta, and Northwest.
Our gas prices are around $4.20 to $4.35 a gallon, so make sure you think about that when you rent a car.
Seneca Falls is a little less than an hours drive east from Rochester on the NY Thruway (exit 41, where Rochester is 45/46).
Geneva is a nice town if you need to find a hotel. Geneva is on the tip of Seneca Lake (one of the Finger Lakes)
I will be driving with the family east, so I will wave to you all as I pass exit #41. :(
