Top Aide: McCain Will Have $400 Million Campaign Effort
Susan Davis reports on the presidential race.

John McCain’s campaign manager told reporters today that Republicans are looking at amassing a combined $400 million war chest for the general election campaign against Barack Obama.

Factoring in the fund-raising efforts of the candidate, the Republican National Committee, and state-level operations, Rick Davis estimated McCain will have more than enough resources to compete against Obama, who he credited for raising staggering funds–some $280 million–already in the campaign. “It is indeed an impressive amount and worthy of the attention it’s gotten,” Davis said.

However, McCain raised nearly $22 million in June, Davis said, leaving the Arizona senator with $26.7 million cash on hand, in addition to the RNC’s $67.8 million cash on hand, and another $8 million in state party operations for a combined current total of over $102 million.

“This shows extremely strong fund-raising,” he said, “It bodes well for how we will continue to prosecute the campaign.” Davis projected Republicans will raise an additional $95 million by the end of the summer.

McCain will also benefit from about $84 million in public funds for the general election—funds his rival has rejected. While McCain’s campaign operation will be limited to those funds, the larger party effort can continue to raise and spend money on his behalf.

Including the public funds, Davis estimated Republicans will have roughly $210 million to use between September—when McCain officially becomes the nominee—and Election Day on Nov. 4. All told, between now and then, Davis said the “unified budget” will be at least $400 million.

“I think that is a relatively conservative number, based on existing fund-raising numbers,” he said.

Since securing the nomination in early March, Davis said McCain has raised, on average, about $20 million each month. He said the funds will allow the campaign to expand, both in advertising and ground operations. “We’ve significantly increased our footprint in the states,” Davis said, adding that Republicans will be organizing, advertising, and building get-out-the-vote programs nationwide.

No wonder Obama forgot about Hillary's debt, he must be near panicked now, everyone's moving to McCain with Obama as the front runner in the DNC....and don't think the DNC aren't taking notice. They must be panicking right along with Obama.

The good news, Hillary's debt is getting paid down and this must be making Obama and DNC sick. Where is all the money Obama was supposed to make, the DNC was supposed to rake in with Obama? Hahaha, the media and DNC must be turning green. McCain is benefitting by Hillary's supporters. Obama's begging women to support him and Dem Underground supporters are going nuts, as I posted here yesterday that they're not getting the support they need, as the German Chancellor and black clergy one by one, tear Obama apart for his self centered ways, affiliations, double speak, etc.

Go McCain Go! I suspect large money will go McCain's way until Hillary is the candidate of choice. DNC better work quickly to ensure that happens, or they will end up losing so much money, their heads will spin.

I am not too sure that all of McCain's money is coming from Hillary Clinton supporters. I actually beleive that a good portion of Obama's money was coming from Republicans who now went home to give to the RNC.

Linda, you are making a very astute observation. Yes, it may not just be spoiler votes he got from the other side!

You know that dumb ass move Obama uses all the time when he looks puzzled and scratches his head? Yeah, he's doing that BIG time now because he's wondering "Where's all the money gone?????" I personally don't care if it was Republicans throwing their money at him previously - if they take it home with them now.

Anything that takes Obama down is fine with me. Hopefully it will happen before the convention.

Too bad so sad for BHO. I am sure like me, many Hillary supporters are waiting until after the officialness to donate to McCain camp. If so McCain will be rolling in the dough and BHO will have nothing but the lint in his pockets to show.

That's what I think. Obama and the DNC got played bigtime by the Republicans who we all know are masters at the game

I caught a snippet of some news channel talking about this as I was flipping through the channels. They said Obama has a cash problem until he gets the nomination and then he has tons of money at his disposal. Is this true?

Depends on the news channel, they may have been trying to spin the story in BHO's favor.

Yes, I too will wait to donate to McCain until after the Coronation. I still hope for justice from the Dem. Convention. Yet...I am a realist too.

Realisticly, if money were to come to the DNC it would be flowing in all along. No, even if BHO secures the nominee, chances are there will be little, if any funds flowing in. Why? people are showing their unwillingness to support the DNC and BHO right now. That feeling is not going to change.

The last thing the DNC wants to get out is that they're not going to have the money to battle the Republicans til November. Bottom line.
