TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Barack Obama's campaign manager says part of winning Florida means making sure the election is properly run. He wants to avoid the state becoming the poster child for dysfunctional elections again. David Plouffe told reporters Friday that the campaign is already working in Florida and elsewhere. They are making sure there will be enough poll workers and properly functioning machines in precincts where higher turnout is expected.
Many Democrats believe the 2000 election would have turned out differently if not for problems in Florida. President Bush carried the state by 537 votes in an election that took five weeks to resolve. Many of the reported problems were in largely black precincts.
Um... I just voted early for our (local) primary on the 26th, and if they can't count the ballots in the system they have now, there REALLY is something wrong. It's a "connect the arrow" type of ballot, and then a machine scans it, and prints the results (paper trail) on a receipt-like roll of paper.
But of course NO-bama wouldn't want it bad here or in Ohio... (I hope it's a McCain landslide if Hillary doesn't get the nomination in Denver!)
