i have the greatest amount of respect for gwen ifill, but do not feel that many aa's are able to be objective when it comes down to being fair to the opposite side, perhaps i am wrong, perhaps i myself cannot be objective to senator obama, but in the upcoming v.p. debate, i wish that gwen ifill were not the commentator

I resent that statement. True, the overwhelming majority of AAs support BO, but as evidenced by this forum, there are AAs here who do not. I am not familiar with Gwen Ifill but only time will tell whether she will be objective, but I am not going to pre-judge her based on a stereotype.

I think she'll be objective. Biden has to answer the same questions as Palin. Voters will look at more than just the issues as we're already aware of the differences in opinion between the two candidates, but also how confident they are and their body language.
If Biden stumbles and slurrs the way he did in PA last week, voters will be turned off regardless of whether they agree with him on the issues. Palin is animated and a very good public speaker. That alone says bundles. I disagree with her on most issues yet I like her spunk and she is authentic.
Our star will come out shining in this debate.

I totally agree with you! I really like Gwen Ifill but she is NOT objective!
I think she tries but it is obvious to me that she supports Obama.

"I know Palin - and Palin is no Cheney"
it would sweetly and clearly define him away from Bush, too.

Gwen Ifill is a long-time host of "Washington Week" on PBS, one of the more balanced pundit shows. And she was a reporter on PBS before that.
My take on her - personal opinion only, nothing to back it up - is that she is a Dem. But I did not perceive a pro-Obama or anti-Hillary bias in earlier shows this year. I did not see them all, so I might have missed something.
But I think that she is a professional, and if she has a favorite in the race that she will be able to conduct an even debate. She was the moderator for the debate between Cheney and Edwards, and I remember that she was accused of favoring Edwards; one suspects that she will be extra careful this year to avoid even a hint of favoritism.

Wow. That is lousy news. Gwen Ifill has been so far down in the Obama tank that I am surprised she can still walk on land.
I don't have any respect for her at all. I used to like her. But her reporting and attitude during the dem primaries was just hideous. She was a huge disappointment.

Interesting. I have only been watching her recently and I found her to be fair, especilly during the conventions. Maybe her station told her to clean it up as they are usually good about showing both sides.
When is the debate, that is the one I am looking forward to. I am afraid of the side by side of Obama and McCain. McCain's injuries make him look very stiff and old compared to the One.

But she is moderating a debate between Palin and Biden, not
Palin and Obama. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see her drooling
all over Biden as she might over Obama.
Palin can best Biden easily.

We'll see. We'll also see who get's thrown the questions first and if it becomes biased towards Palin, just like it was done towards Hillary.

I like Gwen Ifill's show "Washington Week" but I just listened to the podcast of the latest show (Aug 29) and she mentioned she would be moderating the debate. She appeared to be biased towards Obama during the show.
I think her objectivity is definitely in question when it comes to BO.
If anyone's interested, you can get the podcast here:

I am not exactly sure what your point is. But let me be clear. I am a Black person who supports Hillary and and resent that statement because it came off like, since Gwen Ifill is an AA, she probably supports BO and cannot moderate the debate fairly. First of all, there are quite a few AAs that do not support BO, not simply on this forum. I know because I have quite of few friends who are not in BOs tank. They were not in Hillary's either. Actually a lot of them were really divided. Second, like i said, I am not familiar with Gwen Ifill, but I think she will moderate the debate professionally.
Sure she is black and maybe a Obama supporter, but she is also a professional. I will wait and see, and judge her on her performance. As far as I am concerned, it will come down to Biden and Palin as to how they handle the debate. Personally I think Palin will handle Biden with no problem.
The original poster was just stating her opinion and I am stating mine.

Don't worry. Sarah will be fine. Palin can beat Biden with one hockey stick tied behind her back. Watching Biden lately, he yells a lot (has he always done that?) but his heart is not in it. You may see him drop out of the race for personal reasons soon.
