One idea that's being kicked around by Dems: Because huge amounts of media coverage of Palin are inevitable, why not start pushing the idea that she's upstaging the guy who's supposed to be at the top of the ticket?

The idea here is that her speeches will energize audiences more than his will, and she'll prove a stronger fundraising draw than he will — facts that Dems can point to in order to portray McCain as being diminished and overshadowed by his more-charismatic and energetic number-two.

You should have seen the crowds lined up in Wiconsin waiting to see John McCain and Sarah Palin. The republican party is energized against Obama and combine that with PUMAS being against Obama and Barack will be defeated.

They complement each other and McCain is obviously the leader....the
guy with the wisdom which comes with age. I love the interest and excitement
that Palin gives the ticket.
Democrats risk alienating more women each time they complain about Palin.

It's worth a try. I don't think it will work, but they might as well give it go. Obama doesn't have a record to run on so they might as well grasp at what little straws they have.

Their #2 is so good she is outshining their #1 and our #1 and #2 just doesn't sound like a winning strategy.

Exactly... she's a strong woman whose policies appeal to many different voters... it's called 'making a good VP pick' and Mac upstaged the DNC in doing so:)

I soooooooo....agree with that Santiago. Do you think they are beginning to grab at straws here, hoping they can suck the life out of something, somewhere. Really pathetic I'd say.

I just spent about a half hour or so over at Dems for McCain site doing some blogging but I had to come home. It has been overrun by the bots and that Christina is still there doing her darnest to convince us to all vote Bo. It gets a liitle old. They get vulger too and that is unacceptable to me. Had to leave and get back to some sanity........thank goodness for all of you here!

HA! The person at the top of the ticket Sarah Palin is upstaging the most is Obama!

Seriously, everyone else on both tickets looks better than BO at this point.

And I agree, Mac is very likely to say, with respect to himself, "So?"

or

"I guess that means you must be pretty impressed with my first executive decision!!!"

:D

The BOTS are lost without their Plastic Jesus.

What a stupid tactic. It only highlights that McCain is secure enough w/himself to have a charismatic woman on the ticket, while Obama is not!

Well, the Bots have not at any time in this election, used intelligent tactics. They are either too young or too kool-aid intoxicated to understand a smart tactic if it was a huge yellow buss and ran right over them.

I was thinking the same thing. McCain isn't an egomaniac like that "other" candidate.

As he said in his speech last night that success doesn't have to go to just ONE PERSON. And he's right. He's the type of guy who shares success. He credited his wife and children, mother and father, and those who have been meaningful in his life. He is so proud that Palin is giving the Republican Party the boost they are so happy to have. You can see it in his face. He is a proud man.

You also can see the love he has for Cindy and his family. Sure, he's got a tough edge, but he's shear compassion for those dear to him.

I really don't think he minds her getting the attention. Look at Cindy McCain, I am sure he is used to it.

http://www.tvweek.com/news/2008/09/mccain_tv_ratings_beat_obama_i.php

Presidential candidate John McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention drew more television viewers than his rival Barack Obama attracted at the Democratic party's event last week, according to preliminary ratings from Nielsen Media Research.

Across all broadcast networks Thursday, Sen. McCain’s speech ended the night with a 4.8 rating/7 share, compared to Sen. Obama’s 4.3/7 average, according to overnight numbers from metered households in 55 U.S. markets measured by Nielsen. These ratings are preliminary, however, and are subject to change.

NBC’s coverage of Sen. McCain’s speech started directly at the tail end of the opening game of NFL season, with the speech pulling in a 6.3 rating/10 share, topping Sen. Obama’s speech last week by 26%. That lead-in may have boosted audiences who last night turned out in droves to watch Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin introduce herself to the country.

ABC’s showing of the McCain speech averaged a 4.5/7, down 2% from the same night of the Democratic convention last week, while CBS’ coverage took in a 3.4/5, an increase of 3%.

McCain wants her to get all the attention she can. He's very proud of his choice for VP.

So let Obama go after her. McCain can always tell him in the debates, "Sen. Obama has been comparing my VP's record with his own. I hate to be the one to tell him, but he's running against ME." :)

Im getting violent flashbacks of the hideous lies, distortions and fake demeaning photoshopped images of Senator Clinton that were spread during the stolen primaries.

Desperate O-bot tactics to take down a woman.
Demean, sexualize, distort, marginalize.

Im sure ludacris would like to add Sarah to his song now.

Is Sarah also an irrelevant B...h ludacris? Puffy maybe you'd like to lay down some beats for us.

What is the old saying, what goes around comes around - If BO would have had a inklling McCain was going to pick a woman, he would have broke his neck to pick Hillary - Too bad BO - Too late - McCain outsmarted you, Axle-rodent & screaming Dean!!!
They will all be screaming in Nov. when you lose - too bad all of your faithful spent money on a losing horse!!!!

It'll show that McCain doesn't have to be in the limelight... It's why he picked her. It shows that he's a leader that knows how to empower his employees! :)

Remember, a manager is only as good as his/her workers are! :)

Precisely, Mac is confident and secure enough to let Palin do her job and share the spotlight with her, Obama is unable to do the same.
