View Full Version : (9-05-08) "Clinton set to strike McCain, not Palin" (Politico)

Hillary's future plans according to "sources" at Politico. Note: She hasn't "gotten back to Obama's campaign" about the proposed schedule.
Hillary Rodham Clinton has no intention of becoming a Sarah Palin attack dog — but has no qualms going after John McCain, people close to the former first lady say.
“She’s not the answer when it comes to winning conservative women — she never was — and we’re not going to be anybody’s attack dog against Sarah Palin,” said a Clinton insider. “To be fair to Obama’s people, they haven’t asked us to do that.”
Slamming Palin to win back women already hostile to Obama is pointless, the insider said, because Clinton’s most loyal base is working-class voters, not women in particular. “Attacking Palin is checkers, attacking McCain on the economy is chess.”
Clinton will continue to yoke McCain and Palin to President Bush on pocketbook issues. But sources say that Clinton, who supports abortion rights, isn’t likely to criticize the Alaska governor for her anti-abortion stance. She may, however, question Palin’s record on equal-pay issues.
The Obama campaign, alarmed by Palin’s instant popularity, has given Clinton’s staff a proposed fall campaign schedule in economically distressed battleground states — including Ohio and Pennsylvania — where she did well during the primaries, according to people familiar with the situation.
The former first lady, who is due to appear at an Obama event in Florida on Monday, hasn’t gotten back to them yet. When she does, she’s likely to add a few stops of her own — fundraisers, including at least one in Texas to help her repay more than $20 million in debt incurred during the primary.

Nothing surprising about this.
I am pleased, however, that she won't be going after Palin in the way the Obama campaign would no doubt like her to.
I think Hillary making comments against McCain/GOP policies is reasonable given she would have been doing so if she was the nominee.
But I really don't think she will be getting too involved. On more than a few occasions her "aides" have reminded people that HC has "other responsibilities" she must meet, such that she won't be an on-call 24/7 for the BO campaign to use.

So when she comes to PA, I'll be there with my PUMA shirt on!

Be sure to give a few shout-outs for "Hillary in 2012!"

I think Hillary will campaign as the champion of the Democrat platform. Focus on the issues. Compare & contrast them with McCain's.
Unlike Obama, she never made politics a personal issue.

And she will not be attacking McCain on personal issues, such as his military record. She will no doubt compare his economic policies to Obamas (??????) (I mean really...how can you compare anybody to Obama?) Has to be the hardest job in the world. Trying to sell a candidate and his platform that you neithr like, respect or consider experienced or electable is akin to trying to sell a 3 legged horse to a prospective buyer that wants Kentucky Derby runner..."Yep, he's only got three legs, but you will save a bundle in horseshoeing and he can hop faster than a Kangaroo..." Sometimes I even crack myself up.

Yes. That's one damn hard job. Thanks for the laugh WD. I need it today.

I think you are exactly correct! She'll be talking issues just as she is expected to do as a party leader. She will not be stooping to the crap
of the Obama camp or DNC. She is simply doing her job as she sees it.

Former Pres. Bill Clinton was right.....BO was and IS a fantasy.
Who could blame him for skipping out of the 'sermon on the Greek mount'
in Denver. The amount of sheeple being bamboozled by 'the one we have been waiting for' is alarming!

I'm not sure Hillary was there either. We never saw either one of them, did we?

I'm bumping this because we have a thread with 50 posts from the lying NY Daily news about HRC attacking Palin. This thread which clarifies her postion on Palin very clearly only has 10 comments.
Let's all try to focus the positive and not the negative press - especially when it's coming from a paper we know flat out lied about the nomination! :)

I don't understand. I just heard that she was indeed going toe to toe with Palin. He's also bringing in other women to counter the Palin effect. I heard this on FOX....don't shoot the messenger, but lately, I've been watching that station after school.

False! These are MSM writers trying to be provocative and get Hillary voters to support Obama. These are the same people that trashed Hillary for months.

I don't believe for a minute that Hillary Clinton would go after Palin that hard - she's got to be intelligent enough to understand that at this point, it's best to ride out the storm. Attacking her would make Hillary Clinton look like just another MSM/Obama bot hack.
It's more like Hillary to hone in on the policy differences between the parties and leave the other stuff out.

That's what I think she'll do too. It's all part of her job as a Democrat.

SHE'S NOT!!
I am tempted to push to remove that other thread from the Daily News. That paper lies intentionally all the time - I've posted the clarification, yet no one seems to care to hear the truth.
That whole thread is really pissing me off.

I heard it on FOX...of all stations. We'll see soon enough. I can't even stand the thought of her supporting him. Sorry folks, the whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach. After what they did to her; she's going to support that guy?
Nevermind, I'm pissed off and confused. I hate this.

She'll be doing the bare minimum. She's not leaving the party, she's preparing for 2012. She will be solidifying her own base with any stop she does - the people that come to see her are her supporters.
She's made one appearance that was scheduled before the convention. She hasn't gotten back to them about any future appearances. She'll do a few, but please don't confuse that with her having any interest in him winning.
McCain did the same thing for GWB after the ugly 2000 primary. That is just how it's done.

Read Hillary's statement from yesterday and all her statements about Palin. She already said she has no intentions of attacking Palin. I saw the segment on FOX too. It was put out there by the Obama campaign. They're angry at Hillary because she's refusing to do what they want her to do. They purposely put that on FOX to try to coerce Hillary into doing their dirty work. Have faith in Hillary. Also, I've been reading alot of posts about her supporters being angry with her. Please stick with her. A source said she campaigned for Obama openly, but is secretly doing things behind the scenes. The campaigning is a cover for what she's really doing. The source said Hillary is listening to us and understands our feelings, and she's asking us to hang in there with her. The source says Hillary is taking care of things. She doesn't want her actions known at this time.

Thanks writerchick and jle222 ~ I have to run, but can you post a link? I guess I've been so depressed since all went down and I have such hateful feelings towards him and the Dems. I really angry still....
I haven't been here for a couple of days cause of studies.
Sorry if I got ya'll upset in anyway. I'll be back later when I'm through with my errands...ya'll have been a great source for me to understand some things that would normally have me in tears.
