Fitting lyrics!
Barracuda
So this aint the end -
I saw you again today
I had to turn my heart away
Smiled like the sun -
Kisses for real
And tales - it never fails!
You lying so low in the weeds
I bet you gonna ambush me
Youd have me down down down down on my knees
Now wouldnt you, barracuda?
Back over time we were all
Trying for free
You met the porpoise and me
No right no wrong, selling a song-
A name, whisper game.
If the real thing dont do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn burn burn burn it to the wick
Ooooooh, barracuda?
Sell me sell you the porpoise said
Dive down deep down to save my head
You...i think you got the blues too.
All that night and all the next
Swam without looking back
Made for the western pools - silly fools!
If the real thing dont do the trick
No, you better make up something quick
You gonna burn burn burn burn it to the wick
Ooooooohhhh, barra barracuda.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.

I prefer Gretchen Wilson to Heart any day. Maybe I'll sell off my Heart CDs now and take the money to give to the GOP. :D

Nice choice! *thumb-up*
And, way to go 'Heart'- A 70's/80's rock group gets a retro boost on national t.v and they whine about the GOP using their song.. (even though they weren't the only ones who wrote it)
Sigh.

I believe the Wilson sisters own the publishing for this song, so I don't think it makes any difference if Gretchen Wilson's version is used. Still... I respect Ann and Nancy's feelings on this matter. Think of it this way... if Obama was using your song without your permission, wouldn't you want to choke someone?

I don't get it with these artists. This has happened before, I can't remember the artist's name who didn't want the McCain Campaign playing their music. Whats next...are artists going to dictate who can purchase their music? Music is something that everybody enjoys, music is played in grocery stores, doctors offices, department stores, sports arena, etc...do artists think, "hey, better not play my music there because some conservatives might be there." Very stupid, infantile, and acts of discrimination on their part.

I heard that because of the Convention, it was the number one downloaded song on the internet. They are therefore making money off of it. Nice way to say thank you!

Yep and now they are trying to milk another 15 minutes of fame. Ditch the song Sarah. Pick another one. They aren't worth it.

Heart was one of my favorite groups back in the 80's, and I love Barracuda. It's no surprise if the Wilson Sisters are Dems.
It was a real hoot hearing it at the Repub Convention.
Even more amusing was seeing 40,000 "stuffy" Repubs dancing to it. :D:D

I still think that "I am woman" by Helen Reddy, fits her the best. Very empowering song.

You got that right. Actually I thought Heart did a poor job with that song.
Lyrics are mumbled and the only part of the song I like is when she says
BARACUDA....

I agree. An artist's song is their own. If they don't want to let some pol use it, that's cool. It's their right.
And the song "Barracuda" is not complimentary to the Barracuda anyway.
I believe they wrote the song in response to a media guy who they thought was a real a-hole. He is the "barracuda" in the song.

As noted in yesterday's Midday Open Thread:
The ladies of Heart have contacted the McCain/Palin campaign and asked them to immediately cease and desist from using their song "Barracuda."
Unfortunately for the Wilson sisters, "as the song is licensed for public performance under a blanket fee," and since the McCain campaign paid those fees to use the song, there is nothing Heart can do about its use. But there is a bright side to this story. Roger Fisher, the band's former guitarist and co-writer of the song said that:
...he strongly endorsed the Democratic ticket, and would donate a portion of royalties he receives from the Republicans' airing of "Barracuda" to the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama.
"With my contribution to Obama's campaign, the Republicans are now supporting Obama," he said.
Rock on.
