These rules have openings for fraud that you could drive a semi- truck through. I live in a community "where everyone pretty much knows my name" but in the cities and with the provisional ballots, this will be a nightmare to validate voters.

See below:

Rules:
Voters must bring identification to the polls in order to verify identity.
Identification may include a current and valid photo identification, a military identification, or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document, other than this reminder or voter registration notification, that shows the voter's name and current address. Voters who do not provide one of these documents will still be able to vote by providing the last four digits of their social security number and by casting a provisional ballot. Voters who do not have any of the above forms of identification, including a social security number, will still be able to vote by signing an affirmation swearing to the voter's identity under penaltyof election falsification and by casting a provisional ballot. Generally, state-issued driver's licenses and state-issued identification may include a current or former address. R.C. 3501.19

I agree. By the time anyone 'verifies' a voter's identity (if anyone does so) it would be much too late.

WTF!?

That is not acceptable.

I would think the GOP has a grip on this, no?

I have never heard of an utility bill or bank statement being provided for proof! This is beyond ridiculous! The fraud possibilities are endless.

And, Obama will use all of this to his advantage. We certainly know he is very familiar with how to win, even when he doesn't win.

Yes, please sign up, as the more local observers the better. I am going to visit my local Republican campaign office the next time I go to town (live rural) and I will get gear and let them know I am available to help.
I hope everyone all over this country concerned about this election will do the same.

Uh oh,, Is that the hum and buzz of thousands of laser printers hard at work manufacturing utility bills for "voters" I hear????

I tried to reply to this earlier but apparently did it wrong. I'll try again.

These rules have been in effect for about two years. i'm a poll worker and we have dealt with these rules for I think 3 elections now, maybe four.

If you really want to help, become a POLL WORKER, not an observer. Boards of Election never have enough willing workers. We work ALL elections, the primaries, special, and the annual fall elections. Then, since too many people vote only in the presidential election, we get hit every four years with needing many more workers to handle the increased number of voters. Retaining and keeping trained an army of workers is difficult under such conditions. I say we are volunteers, which we are, but we are paid, though it is very little for what turns into one very, very long day.

Most workers are women, and some have done this for twenty, thirty or more years. Some die. I've been doing this now for over 5 years and I think I know of at least three who have died, and they weren't the oldest ones either.

Fraud can happen and more easily when too few poll workers are overwhelmed by a surge of voters, PLUS having to keep track of observers who may not stay where they are supposed to stay.

So, please, get involved. Become a poll workers and help keep elections honest and on track by helping to ensure that polling places are fully staffed.

Remember, in Ohio, at least, there must be workers from both parties on board. This can create a scheduling nightmare for the Board of Elections.

I've been doing this for five years but if you want to see dedication and examples of putting country first, take a look at the women (mostly) who have been doing this for 20, 30, even 40 years. That's dedication.

You could even call this "community organizing". For sure our elections couldn't proceed without those dedicated poll workers.
