"There Will Be Blood" It was amazing! I love Daniel Day Lewis :D
I've heard it's good. I will go see it. Before "Untraceable" I saw "Cloverfield" which I thought was a bit like our man Obama, all hype and no substance!

Indeed!
I was sucked into watching Cloverfield via the heavy advertizing on MySpace and was then very disappointed as it had not storyline. I actually felt a bit dizzy too by the end of it with the camera moving all the time.

True. But BWP was at least a little scary. Cloverfield was just ridiculous!

Looks interesting...I haven't seen anything about it yet. From the trailer, it looks like a bunch of different periods of time put together in one place?
I don't go to many movies in the theaters because nearly every movie I've been to in the last eight years has included a wailing infant in the audience. I started getting netflix. I'm really fond of documentaries and comedies- I've seen all of the "7 up" series and I have "The Real Dirt On Farmer John" upstairs right now, waiting to be watched. I'm also a fan of "Strangers With Candy", both the movie and the series.

Think "Best In Show" or "Waiting For Guffman" however, some of the "actors" are actually high school students and teachers.

I have to admit to liking really campy B movies. :)
I did go see The Happening recently. It wasn't M. Night Shyamalan's best.
I started watching "10,000BC" last night on pay per view. I lasted about 30 minutes. It wasn't very engaging and basically seemed like a much less interesting re-hash of Apocalypto.

I saw:
X Files: I Want to Believe - I am a huge X Files fan and I was really disappointed in the story. It centered around a psychic pedophile priest and the other villains were gay men kidnapping people for body parts? Where do they come up with this stuff? The only scenes I enjoyed were those between "Mulder and Scully". Gillian Anderson looks great BTW. :o
The Mummy (whatever number it is LOL) - There was a new actress in the role of Brendan Faser's wife. It didn't work very well. I enjoyed the previous iterations much better.

I only like Zombie movies and the new Horror/Comedy genre. The others are just crap.
The funniest of the Horror/Comedy movies is Black Sheep. It is set in New Zealand and is about mutant sheep that are 1/2 human and go on the attack. Seriously funny. The 2nd funniest is Fido, a Zombie movie that has Carrie Anne Moss in it. It's a take off on Lassie and is funnier than crap.

Go see Defiance. It's the other side of the story. Steff and I had an interesting convo last night about the differences between the two, and how the imagery of Valkyrie creeps us both out and we have no inclination to see it.
She posted these youtubes of these 2 guys, one American and one German and their different views of Valkyrie. It was very informative.

'Bruno' tops the box office with $14.2 mil on Friday (http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/07/box-office-bruno.html?xid=rss-feed-todayslatest-%27Bruno%27%3A+%2414%2E2M+is+Friday%27s+No%2E+1)
A gay Austrian's dream to become "uber-famous" came true, as Sacha Baron Cohen's new mockumentary, Bruno, topped the box office on Friday, according to early estimates. Bruno, which pushes its R-rating to places never before thought possible, grossed $14.2 million on Friday. By comparison, Cohen's previous mockumentary, Borat, made $9.2 million on its first day; however, Bruno debuted on more than three times as many screens as Borat (2,756 versus 837). Second place went to the third Ice Age movie, which consumed $8.7 million on Friday while evolving past the $100 million mark. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen dropped 58% in its third week for a gross of $7.6 million. While that steep of a drop would spell trouble for most movies, Transformers has already tallied $323 million in the U.S. (not to mention more than $330 million overseas), so we doubt Paramount is shedding any tears. In fourth and fifth place were Public Enemies and The Proposal, which picked up $4.3 million and $3.5 million, respectively. Also opening wide this weekend was the teen comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper, which clearly could have used more love -- it registered a dweebish $2.1 million. Friday's figures are below. Be sure to check back here on Sunday for the complete weekend box office report.
1. Bruno -- $14.2 mil
2. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs -- $8.7 mil
3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen -- $7.6 mil
4. Public Enemies -- $4.3 mil
5. The Proposal -- $3.5 mil

Another Bruno review:
This was great. I'd probably rank it a bit behind Borat but still well worth the money. Unless of course you're a redneck, homophobe, or both. If you just don't like his humour that's ok tho!

I haven't been to a movie since Bruno. I'm still recovering, lol.
I noticed that it's been banned in the Ukraine, but the American reviews from the big critics at Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, etc. are all pretty much raves, based on the humor and SBC's fearlessness as a comic performance artist. One said that he risks everything, including his own safety, which brought back the scene where the woman dominatrix was chasing him around the room with the whip. OMG.
I wonder what he's going to do next.

Sure. Oh, I know exactly what you mean. But it really is a great invention. You sign up, pick a plan (I have the 1 at a time that's about $5 a month, but you can easily change your plan). They send you a movie, you don't have to send it back in any time frame, then when you're finished, put it in the mail. You don't have to pay for postage. And it takes about a day. I've had it off and on (mostly on) for almost 3 years and I wouldn't ever get rid of it. I love it because I don't go to the movies that much, it's so expensive, and so I get to catch up on movies I didn't get to see in the theater, especially around the Oscars. They have documentaries too, anything you are looking for, they have a huge selection.
And they also email you when to expect the next DVD on your list.
One said that he risks everything, including his own safety, which brought back the scene where the woman dominatrix was chasing him around the room with the whip.

"Harry Potter" tops North American box office (http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSTRE56I1GP20090719)
The sixth "Harry Potter" movie worked its charm at North American theaters, selling an estimated $159.7 million worth of tickets during its first five days of release, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said on Sunday.
But while "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" crushed its rivals at the box office, the wizard fantasy failed to match the performance of the year's biggest movie, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which earned $201 million during its first five days last month.
It outpaced its predecessor, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," whose five-day tally came in at $139.7 million two years ago. That movie ended up making $938 million worldwide, making it the seventh-biggest movie of all time before accounting for inflation.
The new film opened worldwide on Wednesday, not a moment too soon for fans of the boy wizard and his pals. It was originally scheduled to open in November, but the Time Warner Inc-owned studio decided to delay it until summer, devastating Potterphiles around the globe. International sales data were not immediately available.
The action revolves around secret plots involving Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and his nemesis Draco (Tom Felton), as the visually stunning film takes viewers deeper into the dark side. There are also budding romances among the young stars. It marks the second consecutive Harry Potter film directed by David Yates, working from an adaptation by series regular Steve Kloves.
Two films are left in the franchise, whose first five films have generated $4.5 billion worldwide since 2001. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," also with Yates at the helm, will be rolled out in two parts in 2010 and 2011.
For the traditional three-day weekend, Friday through Sunday, the new "Harry Potter" film earned $79.5 million, not far ahead of the $77.1 million haul for "Order of the Phoenix." Comparisons with the other movies in the franchise are difficult because those opened on Friday while the latter two opened on Wednesday.

So, did you feel totally gypped by the HP movie? It ended and I was like "THAT WAS IT???" It veered so far from the book. It seemed to focus more on the romance relationships of them all than anything else. I was also irritated at the way they portrayed Dumbledore's death. It seemed really blase' to me. IMHO, it was the worst of the lot. They should have stuck with the guy that did the first two movies, I think they were the best of all of them.

Also, I have a cold. I think the executive producer gave it to me.

I pre-ordered tickets to see Michael Jackson's "This Is It" next week! I'm super excited about that.
Other than that, the last movie I saw was "Good Will Hunting". Talk about an overhyped movie...

I saw Paranormal Activity last week. It was absolutely awesome (especially for a $15,000 production budget). I still get creeped out when I think about some of the scenes.

I will be watching X-Men: Wolverine tonight. I watched the first 3 X-Men movies just this past week. I think I'm one of the few who had never seen an X-Men movie. I enjoyed them all.
I'm back into movies because I've almost finished turning my basement into a mini-theatre. The 65" plasma TV was delivered and mounted on the wall last Friday. Good lawd, that TV is awesome!!! The popcorn machine arrived on Saturday. The finishing touch is to get the speakers installed. Oh, and I need to pick up a margarita machine. After that, I'm done! I'll be in my basement all winter watching movies, football, movies and more football.
I rarely look forward to movies, but I am looking forward to this one:

I have often been sucked in by the marketing for the big disaster movies only to be very disappointed with the actual movie. I hope this time is different! I need a good disaster to restore my interest in movies/cinema?!

Why not? I've never seen snow.
Oh wow. I was raised in Michigan where I saw plenty. Then I moved to the east coast and swore I'd never live in a place with serious winters again. Then I took a job in Minnesota and that's all she wrote. In time, I'll move again.
It's snowed three times already this month. By the time December rolls around, there will be plenty more. You can see snow and the Mall of America. That's a Minnesota winter for you.

I've stayed in the warm places. After college, I got a job in FL (grew up in FL). It looks like it will stay that way. Any job changes would be in Texas.

Yes. Never. I've stayed in Florida. Not a lot of traveling except around the state (and once in Arizona).

It snowed in El Paso once. The first I'd seen snow since I was two, other than seeing them on the Rockies en route to Hawaii on a plane. My automobile was covered in it. I wasn't sure if it was safe to drive it. I almost fell flat on my ass walking down the stairs getting to it.

Weekend box office: Michael Jackson becomes a movie star (http://www.silive.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2009/11/weekend_box_office_michael_jac.html)
With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, folks had plenty of things to do this weekend besides going to the movies. In anticipation of this, movie studios pulled back, with the "Michael Jackson's This Is It" the only wide release of the week. Accordingly, the concert film finished No. 1 at the box office with a domestic take of $21.3 million.
To be fair, the movie probably would've done just as well even with plenty of competition, as Jackson's fans are known for being loyal --- and widespread. While an American debut of $21.3 million is a middle-of-the-road success, "This Is It" also hit theaters around the world at the same time, and globally the film has now made $101, which is impressive no matter how you cut it.
While I didn't see "This Is It," as I was out of town, the reviews for the film have largely been positive, with critics marveling that the late Jackson, seen in rehearsals for a planned 50-date London concert tour, still had it. I don't doubt that, but given Jackson's many serious health issues and his obvious frailty, both physical and emotional, I would've been shocked had he been able to handle all those London shows. I think his story ended the only way it could have.
Sony, the studio behind "This Is It," has announced that the film, originally slated for just a two-week theatrical run, has been extended through Thanksgiving. Gee, didn't see that coming.
"Paranormal Activity," meanwhile, the cheapo horror flick that's become a runaway hit, finished the weekend at No. 2, with a cumulative take now of $84.8 million --- not bad for a movie that cost $15,000 to make.
I was talking with a film critic colleague who just saw the movie today for the first time (where has HE been?), and while he enjoyed the film he didn't go crazy for it like I did in my review. But, I saw "Paranormal" back in August, before all the hype and hoopla that came to surround the movie. I don't know if I'd feel the same way about the movie seeing it for the first time now, with all that background noise getting in the way, and truly good films should be able to rise above such distractions.
Happily, this weekend's other horror flick, "Saw VI," has proven a real dud in now two weeks of release, taking in just $22.8 million so far, well below its five predecessors after 10 days. Competition from "Paranormal Activity" undoubtedly hurt it, but I would love to see this torture-porn franchise dead and buried once and for all.
Here are the estimated ticket sales for Friday through yesterday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com:
1. "Michael Jackson's This Is It," $21.3 million.
2. "Paranormal Activity," $16.5 million.
3. "Law Abiding Citizen," $7.3 million.
4. "Couples Retreat," $6.1 million.
5. "Saw VI," $5.6 million.
6. "Where the Wild Things Are," $5.1 million.
7. "The Stepfather," $3.4 million.
8. "Astro Boy," $3.04 million.
9. "Amelia," $3 million.
10. "Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant," $2.8 million.
