We need to write to the media and push for these folks to be prosecuted. Computer crimes are a federal offense.
Note:
Please do not add photos or links to site(s) where this information may be published.
We don't need to be giving them website hits.

Criminal investigation is on. This is very serious issue, it is not only privacy issue but also security issue. She is VP candidate.
People who had posted links and snap shot of her emails etc will get jail term.
Those who had hacked her account should look for long term in big house.
Despicable. Wonder if it's the Alaskan troopergate investigators?

Of course. It did not occur to me. OTOH, I think this was a paid-by-obots crime, so whatever info they were after... from what I've seen, it was a pyrrhic victory for them, they got nothing "juicy" and they may get serious repercussions in return.

Just a word of warning for anyone hunting for pictures. It is a federal crime even if you host the pictures, display them on a web site or even email them to friends. The DoJ is going to be all over this.
I expect the people behind this will get caught. And please reconsider using public email services for anything personal. If these people can get into Sarah's email then what is stopping them from getting into yours?

Palin has faced criticism for using a private e-mail account to conduct some state business — prompting critics to allege she was attempting to hide information from the public record.
CNN had to add this at the end of this article, like it made it ok. This is just crazy.

Why would CNN add this, if it was noted that there was nothing "bad" in her emails, thank you notes, pictures, etc. ???????????

Many people cannot sign into their business e-mail from their home computers. I know from personal experience that I have sent e-mail advising people at my job of issues, when I have been on vacation or out sick. This is just ridiculous.

Just heard this on Bill O'Reilly. Bill's seething about it.
That's really the lowest thing someone could do.
Can't believe this is the same Democratic party who were angry about Bush psooibly being able to listen to their phonecalls and read their email.
It shows that many Bots in our party are lacking in morals and character.

Well the main thing is that all of the emails and pictures etc were innocuous. Nothing damaging in them at all.
It was her Yahoo account. So Yahoo should be able to provide investigators with the ip addresses of those who accessed the account.
Someone phoned Bristol, so they should be able to obtain that person's identity too.
Most likely the Secret Service will track down those involved and confiscate their computers etc etc.
Hopefully the law extends to cover hacking into an online email account.
Then they can be prosecuted. Any judge would want to make an example of them.

Ok, seriously, Gloria Allred needs a reality check. The e-mails were personal and the focus should be on the fact that Palin's e-mail was hacked, not the possibility that she may or may not use her personal account for state business (which there is, right now, no proof of). Agh!! A crime was committed and Allred was bound and determined to turn it around on Palin.

UPDATE:
I found a confession from the hacker himself:
"I read though the emails… ALL OF THEM… before I posted, and what I concluded was anticlimactic, there was nothing there, nothing incriminating, nothing that would derail her campaign as I had hoped, all I saw was personal stuff, some clerical stuff from when she was governor…. And pictures of her family"
Earlier it was just some prank to me, I really wanted to get something incriminating which I was sure there would be......
....well there WAS NOTHING, I read everything, every little blackberry confirmation… all the pictures, and there was nothing, and it finally set in, THIS internet was serious business, yes I was behind a proxy, only one, if this XXXX ever got to the FBI I was XXXXed, I panicked, i still wanted the stuff out there but I didn’t know how to [distribute] all that stuff, so I posted the pass XXXX and then promptly deleted everything, and unplugged my internet and just sat there in a comatose state

Here are some details on Malkin's blog:
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/09/17/the-story-behind-the-palin-e-mail-hacking/
Whether the rubico's story is accurate or it is a post-delicti smoke screen designed to obscure the truth--I leave it to FBI/SS to determine. What is certain is that whoever was behind it (the hacker(s) that is), will be s*****g bricks, if not doing so already.

It is not that unusual for people to use private e-mail for business. My husband is a financial planner and people are used to writing e-mails to his personal e-mail address even though EVERYTHING is supposed to go through his broker/dealer's e-mail address. He conducts 80% of his business at home and sometimes he forgets and it just goes through his personal e-mail account and then people write back to him there.
Also, it may be like someone said up thread, she may not be able to log onto a government e-mail account from home. Who knows. To me it's just no biggie. She may have been in her personal e-mail account and thought "oh I have to send a message to so and so" and when the respondent gets it and replies, it goes back to the personal e-mail address. As long as there wasn't any secret stuff in there, who cares?
Do you see the hate responses from the Obama minions below the CNN article? They are really hateful!!!

DOJ, Secret Service and FBI are going full bore:
Via Wake Up America Blog: Posting the info is illegal (http://wwwwakeupamericans-spree.blogspot.com/2008/09/huffington-post-gawker-americablog-all.html)
"Since reproducing information that is obtained illegally, with full knowledge that the information was obtained legally is a crime just as the original hackers that obtained the information committed a crime, well known sites such as Huffington Post, Americablog, Gawker and more have all deliberately broken the law by reproducing and publishing the emails and/or photos illegally obtained from Sarah Palin's hacked email address."

Just a DISGRACE. The obama gang memebers must be scared to resort to this.
WHY would anyone want to run for public office after all the media, DNC and obama gang have put this qualified woman - and her family thru. I heard an obama guy say "Welcome to
Washington - get used to it"! Hope the FBI puts them all in jail.

If they can find the guy who cracked the Pentagon, what makes hackers today think they are superior? This guy is going to get busted soon.
I can state for a fact, that some of the things you saw in movies like Enemy of the State are actually 5 years behind what they are currently using.

I want to see some arrest.
Arrest, heck. I want to see some convictions and a 20 year jail term. Fed time with a mandated 85% served. I teach information policy at the grad level and frequently tell students, especially younger ones who think that any thing you do on the computer is OK, that there are heavy consequences for actions such as this. Not everything is a joke, not everything will be forgiven because you smile and say you didn't mean any harm.
Of course, in this case, I'm sure these hackers were looking for some dirt on Palin. Maybe they can look for it in Leavenworth.

Have fun in Federal Prison...
Memo to law enforcement investigators tracking down who broke into Sarah Palin's Yahoo email account: Gabriel Ramuglia might be a good place to start.
The 25-year-old webmaster and entrepreneur is the operator of Ctunnel.com, the browsing proxy service used by the group that hacked into the vice presidential candidate's personal email account and exposed its contents to the world. While he has yet to examine his logs, he says there's a good chance they will lead to those responsible, thanks to some carelessness on their part.
"Usually, this sort of thing would be hard to track down because it's Yahoo email, and a lot of people use my service for that," he told El Reg in a phone interview. "Since they were dumb enough to post a full screenshot that showed most of the [Ctunnel.com] URL, I should be able to find that in my log."
Ramuglia got into the proxy business a few years ago, after schools began blocking access to an online game site he used to co-own. Pretty soon, people began using the proxy service to access YouTube, Gmail, MySpace, and dozens of other sites that are routinely blocked by IT departments.
To prevent abuse of the service - such as the occasional bomb threat or other illegal act that's been known to happen - Ramuglia logs each user's IP address, along with the time and web destination. That often isn't enough to track down people who access extremely popular websites. But in this case, the perpetrators included a whole string of random-looking characters when posting screenshots of Palin's hacked account. That will probably be enough for him to pinpoint the proverbial needle in the haystack.

The sad thing is, looking at the CNN story and a few other sites, is that the Obots seem to think that whoever did this was in the right, because Palin and McCain are "evil". I get so disgusted with some of these people claiming the moral high ground, and justifying any action they want to take because they are in the right. The end does not justify the means. Would be sending them this clip right now if I knew who they were *Office Space clip, slight language warning*: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPcql4FuCK0
