They need to stick to the basic plan of no attachments, no riders, no extra anything beyond the focus being on the mortgage/banking mess.

No pork, no earmarks, nothing. Period! Anything else, then let the Dems pass it on their own.

Excellent... this is the type of pork McCain can rail against but could not bring up in the debate. If he railed on it during the debate like Dick Morris wanted him to, it would have been politicizing a national crisis on a public stage while people are working on an agreement. It could have been defined, and would have been defined, as an attempt to derail it. Now that the debate is over, McCain is back in DC, and Obama is stumping... McCain can jump in with the House republicans and point out this abusive pork supported by Obama's democrats and targeted to benefit one of Obama's backers.

Kbentleyis

NO EARMARKS! McCain has already said that anyone asking for them will be exposed and vetoed. Apparently, McCain is establishing that traight prior to winning the GE! Good for our guy! Now that's integrity.

And, you know, the dems will have to concede.

What?! I thought it was out. The Dems are making me ill right now with this - why are they risking the markets tumbling on Monday by arguing over stuffing this ACORN atrocity in it!

Megyn Kelly said they will be updating at 5pm on FOX today to see if ACORN was still in the bailout bill, but that the Republicans are trying to get it removed.

I only left a msg for my Rep. because my Senators are Feinstein and Boxer

DO THIS NOW - AND CALL DC. Here is a succinct letter and layout. Copy and paste it into emails to your friends. More people should know about ACORN. More people should know that there are earmarks on the rescue bill. More people should know where the earmarks came from and then be aware of whether Congress succeeds in removing them:

Dear Friend:

Currently, the Democrats have put earmarks on the rescue bill, earmarks which the Republicans are trying to remove. Two notable earmarks are for:
1. ACORN (this is George Soros' voter registration group) - up to 20% of the eventual returns on these loans we American taxpayers will be granting when this thing is signed into law, returns which are supposed to be returned to our pockets, instead would be returned to ACORN.
2. LaRaza
If you want the rescue-bailout for the world economy (i.e., the world) to also support Acorn and LaRaza, then you are in favor of this.
If you want the bailout for the world economy not to support Acorn and LaRaza, then you should be aware of this.

Acorn has been accused of voter fraud in 13 states. here is more http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/05/obamas_ties_to_acorn_more_subs.html
on Dems' earmark handout to LaRaza http://messageboards.aol.com/aol/en_us/articles.php?boardId=560797&articleId=747336&func=6&channel=News+AOL+Managed&filterRead=false&filterHidden=true&filterUnhidden=false
on Dems' earmark handout to ACORN: http://www.mytowntalks.com/news/economy-news/acorn-bailout.php
here's another one on that: http://forums.somd.com/news-current-events/155125-bailout-acorn-democrats-fraud.html

You may or may not decide this matters to you - even if it does not matter to you, you should be aware that earmarks are in the bailout bill. It is said that there will be a further report on this at the end of this day of Congressional work.

Call DC Congressional office TODAY and Call Congress NOW! Congressional Switchboard (you will be connected to your representative's and senator's office): 1-877-851-6437 1-800-828-0498 1-866-340-9281 1-866-338-1015.
Say you want NO EARMARKS on this bill!

She is getting really good at pressing things. She stays pretty balanced but I am thinking she is either a PUMA or leaning McCain from the start. I think she is trying to get as much information out there as possible. I think she is also effective in pressing people for answers.

Is FOX the only station talking about the ACORN part of the bill?

Thank goodness for this program. My sister just called to say she contacted the Republican rep for her area regarding ACORN after listening to Fox. Last night I briefly mentioned ACORN to her but today after listening to FOX and gaining a better understanding she took action. Hopefully others are also taking action.

There's not much more they can do about it though. We have to call Nancy Pelosi's office!

Sorry I do not have a link. It was just a comment by a Fox news participant. They also said at the time that the insurance proposals and union oversight would also be scuttled. In other words just a bare bones proposal.

this bailout bill makes the same amount of sense as using a sack of money to smother a blazing inferno. and when the money burns up because the fundamental problem hasnt been fixed then what? we'll still be in the crapper for a trillion dollars and the problem will remain... I cant believe the House Republicans are the only ones interested in actually working for helping the taxpayer save money...

They signed it with ACORN on there????

I hugely apologize for posting that..I should've came back and edited when I found out the truth of the matter and that I was totally wrong. I was chatting with a friend on IM and we were talking about this ACORN crap and also the other earmarks that were going to be sneaked in, like the auto loans etc and she said the spending bill passed, $680 billion approved. I was confuzzled and thought it was the housing bill. Teh amount and the auto industry inclusion threw me. That passed, not the housing bill.

Interesting while searching on this ACORN ordeal, I guess Congress and Bush signed a $500 million a year deal over the summer for handouts to ACORN? Is this true? Here's a link with Newt talking about it. This was before the Freddie and Fannie takeover tho, but still. Are these people insane or what?
