JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.
“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.
“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.
“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election. “Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

I would think the state's attorney general could put a foot down heavy on this should it become necessary.
Obama has been quick to try silencing any dissent or criticism of himself, his family or anything standing in his way. I tell you there are evil forces at work inside his campaign.

People please WAKE UP!!!!
If they are trying to pull this stuff while this guy is campaigning, what is it going to be like when he is elected and has substantially more power.
I've disagreed with all sorts of politicians during my life, but until now, I've never honestly been scared of any of them. Obama SCARES me. Its like being in a bad horror movie, seeing the ending that is coming and feeling helpless to stop it. Look at his background, look at his hidden past, look at his connections, look at his plans for the future, all the free-speech suppression, the brownshirt-like "defense force" and so on.
I hope this country wakes up, people are ready to elect a guy that they know absolutely nothing about. I fear for the future.

When I saw the original story posted here a day or so ago, I went to the Drudge Report and forwarded the link, as I'm certain others here did. Within a couple of hours, it did appear on Drudge. Of course we can't be certain that it was us that got it through, but who knows?
It's definitely worth hanging in there and forwarding the most egregious and well-documented stories of this type. I think this one had weight because it was a local news station that had done it rather than a blog or more biased source.

Here's the transcript of the lede on the CBS story:
"Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign is asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad during the presidential campaign."
The implied threat in the Channel 4 report is that prosecutors and sheriffs across Missouri will enforce "Missouri ethics laws" and conduct criminal investigations of "anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad" against Barack Obama. Although the report did not directly state that intent, that implied message was clearly conveyed.

If McCain looked into Obama's eyes (notice that McCain refuses to look at Obama!!!), he'd see the same ideology (communism) that tortured him in North Vietnam. That is a fact.
Now that is a sad and poignant coincidence. Obama represents the coming of something that McCain was tortured for.
On top of it... Obama is openly part of the same anti-war movement that used to spit on veterans (and some of Obama's friends like Code Pink still do those things) and send representatives to the Hanoi Hilton to gather propaganda material from him and his friends. That has got to sting.

This certainly explains why so many people across the country are afraid to speak out against OBama and his thug supporters, intimidate, threats and all under the guise of thier new gimmic - fight the smears!!!
I am telling you, so many people will not vote for him but are afraid to say so, I just keep focused that thier will be no one in that voting booth but me, myself and I - This is still a free country and we can exercise freedom of speech, vote for who the hell we please!!!
He reminds me so much of Hitler and I am old enough to remember how he started. O-Bama wants to control the entire country and we have already started down that path with the 700 million wall st. bail out!!! God help us all if he gets elected.

I am a Hillary supporter who will vote for John McCain. It is absolutely amazing that so much corruption is being allowed to happen. Or maybe it isn't, considering all the money being handed out. They say money is the root of all evil... if not, it's a close second. The root of evil I see in the Obo camp is "the entire Obo crowd of corrupt, unfeeling, and devil may care participants who are in this to CHANGE America." Right out of the bowels of Chicago comes stinky gases.

A St. Louis televesion reporter says a story he reported last week about Barack Obama's campaign forming a "truth squa" of prosecutors has been twisted out of context.
Republicans, including Gov. Matt Blunt, and conservative talk shows hosts have sought to portry Obama's use of prosectors as campagin surrogates as a form of intimidation to squelch free speech.
But the KMOV reporter who first reported about two St. Louis County prosecutors joining the thrugh squad says "in the retelling of the story, it got out of control".
If they think a group has put out a misleading ad, they're bascially going to call a press
conference and say the ad is misleading," reporter John Mills told the New-Leader Sunday. "I'm sure the republicans would do the same thing."
In Mills' Sep 23 report, there is no mention by St. Louis County Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Attorney Jennifer Joyce that they would invoke their prosectutorial
powers. But Mills said the prosecutors "also say that they plan to respond immediately to any ads and statements that might violate Missouri ethics laws"
That statement has triggered outrage by Republicans who call it eveidence the Obama-supporting prosecutors are going to invoke the fear of law into critics.
Republicans say attaching their law enforcement titles to their names gives off a preception of a "police state."
Democrats maintain the GOP has twisted the context of a news report to manufacture this controversy.
It is the height of abscurdity that Gov. Blunt would try to decive voters about the role of
respected Missorians across the state who want to see this election be about the truth, not false attacks like the ones we've seen today," said Justin Hamilton, spokesman for Obama Missouri Campaign.
Countering was Ed Martin, a St. Louis attorney and president of the American issues project that has run an anti-Obama ad about Obama's longstnading relationship with William Ayers, an unrepentant 1960's domestic terrorist.
"Pprosecutors, because they can take away from somebody's liberty, are held to a higher
standard, because people are intimidated by them, said Martin the former chief of staff
to Gov. Bunt.
USING his taxpayerj-funded press office, the governor issued a 258 word statement Saturday to denounce Obama's truth squad.
Enlisting MIssouri law enforcement to initimdage people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition ACts - not a free society" Blunt said.
On Wednesday, Obama's Missouri campaign announced US Se. Clair McCaskill wouold lead a group of democratic lawmakers, prosecutors and one sheriff "who will proactive in letting voters in the SHOW ME STATE know the truth in the face of the distortions by
the McCain campaign, according to a news release.
The group includes prosecutors from St. Louis, Dunklin, Lafayeete, Cass, Clay, Ripley,
Audrain and Jackson counties volunteering to be surrogates for Obama on their own time.
In a conference call Saturday with reporters from battleground states, Obama national campaign manager David Plouffe said those who spread lies and mistruths about the illinois senator have to be "held accountable" but did not eleborate.
Frank Donatelli, deputy chairman of the Rep. Nat. Comm. admitted the Democratic prosecutors "haven't speciafically said" they would use their prosecutorial powers.
I don't think you have to use the power, I think if you just call out somebody and you have the power, you've made your point, Donatelli told the News Leader.
He said prosectors dodn't normally join campaign truth squads because their mere
presence as a campaign attack dog "has a chilling affect on people's rights of free
speech."
Republican John McCain's truth squads include the attorney general of S.C. a state he lost in his 2000 GOP primary bid for president because of a smear campaign run at the behest of G.W. Bush's campaign.
Please comment on this article. They are trying to say Gov. Blunt is abusing his powers.
like he wants a job with McCain if he is elected.
Can we get the stats on current polls for Missouri?

This would make a good ad. Showing that Obama is allowing people in power to use their positions to enfluence voters by using intimidation, would send a message that should give chills to anyone who cherishes the freedoms that America offers.
I know there are many people on this forum that can make great videos on youtube. Can anyone make one that shows Claire McCaskell and the others involved in this scare tactic and tie them to Hitler and his thugs who intimidated voters during his regime? Or how about Saddam Hussein or many other leaders past and present that look the other way when things like this happen during elections. Is this the change you want? I don't!
