There never was a deal!! John McCain didn't interject presidential politics! He came to Washington last week because this deal was going to fail miserably and now it has thanks to the presidential politics played by the democrats.
Obama's first chance to lead and he fails! Thank you Ted Poe, thank you republican party for sending the Pelosi-Dean lead, radical democrats a message!

Unfortunately, they're going to spin it that McCain couldn't bring everybody together on this.
I'm just waiting for that.
Everything from the meeting at the White House where Obama attacked the house Republicans to Nancy's speech today has been designed to cast the blame on McCain.
It's all McCain's fault ... They'll spin, spin, spin ...

I agree...just waiting for Obama's henchmen to release the statement. McCain needs to jump on this NOW!!! Beat Obama to the punch! However, I heard McCain was encouraging passage of the bill this morning  So he might not say much at all.

We know that's what really happened, but is the media going to report that?
The MSM seems to just promote the lies of Pelosi, Reed, Frank, Dodd, Kerry and Schumer. These people are lying thru their teeth!

It Was The Partisan Statement By Pelosi At The End Of The Debate That Caused That Result.
Speaker had to give a partisan voice that caused the people to vote against.
FAILURE OF THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE IN INTERJECTING POLITICS.
Pelosi pissed off Republicans. She seems to have pissed off some dems too.
GET HER OUT!!!!
I'm hearing that about 40% of Dems were against the bailout.
Had all the Dems voted together, the Republicans could not have stopped it.
McCain played poker on this one, and let Obama, Pelosi, etc. lose.
A bitter but just victory. There are some good politicians in D.C. afterall!

I'd been listening to the news on TV and just learned from reading HERE that Pelosi caused this to fall through. Now if the whole planet panics, it's Pelosi's fault. :)

Well, we must get out there and spin that JM does what is BEST FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! Unlike BO who is FIRST AND FAST to stick us with $700 Billion to the American taxpayers!

LOL before McCain got involved they didn't have Republicans on board and they had a terrible bill. He worked--improved the bill as much as he could (no ACORN) and drummed up enough R support to get it through--
and then Pelosi derailed things by acting in such a partisan manner.
That is how I see it.

"Even the Dems didn't like it," - I hope that there are many Dems who didn't like the bad-mouthing of McCain by Reid last week and whatever partisan remarks Pelosi made today. She's always preaching this "bi-partisan" line and then does just the opposite - same as Reid - same as BO. Do they really think the American people are stupid enough to not see through them?!! I guess that as long as it appears to work, they will keep it up - but I hope that the polls soon reflect a wisened-up public. C'mon, America! Wake up!!

Um, what? Did the bill pass? NO. Who exactly did BO lead?? What did he do to reach across the aisle and get a bill done that would work for everyone? NOTHING. He did nothing. He kept campaigning and told them to call him if need be. He did NOTHING!!!

When he said bring me those 12 Rep who changed their mind because of Pelosi's speech so he could speak nicely to them since they want to put party before country. I think we should take up that challenge. Email Barney and say those that voted no did their jobs and listen to the people they work for and not the people who give them kickbacks.

Reminder - he hasn't been elected. Don't think that way, and please don't say it - it hurts too much! We have to keep faith and confidence to make sure that doesn't happen!

This was a republican presidential initiative led by a republican administration. Our country is in a mess right now and the republicans are going to say that Nancy Pelosi insulted their feelings? Can't we have something more intelligent from the republicans about why they voted against the bill instead of Nancy Pelosi hurt their feelings?
The Republicans have just lost the election folks unless something real different comes out in between now and November.

I disagree with this too. Many Republicans don't support Bush on the bailout...this plan has been more popular with Democrats thus far. And to say that the Repubs are whining about Pelosi ignores the fact that over 90 House Dems voted against the bailout as well. I think it's fair to ask them what their issue is with this plan, because they are the ones that essentially sunk this (not a bad thing at all, IMO!).
What should be disturbing to Democrats voting for Obama is the fact that Obama, Pelosi, and the like all supported this plan backed unabashedly by the current administration!!

After the Vote on the Bailout Bill:
The vote followed a day of turmoil in the financial sector.
* Wachovia, the fourth-largest US bank, was bought by larger rival Citigroup in a rescue deal backed by US authorities
* Benelux banking giant Fortis was partially nationalised by the Dutch, Belgian and Luxembourg governments to ensure its survival
* The UK government announced it was nationalising the Bradford & Bingley bank
* Global shares fell sharply - France's key index lost 5%, Germany's main market dropped 4% while US shares plunged after the vote result was announced.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7641733.stm
I am glad the bailout bill failed. I work five days a week, save cash and pay my bills. I did not want to pay for Corporate America's greed

Wrong. We knew last week House Republicans were not in support of this bill. We knew they would barely get forty votes. The GOP leadership managed to drum up about seventy votes.
So all Nancy Pelosi had to do was get all the Democrats to vote for the bill. She couldn't even do that! If she had done that the bill would have passed.
On top of that, she then gets up before the vote and bashes the Republicans. This is not a smart thing to do when trying to garner bipartisan support for an unpopular bill.
So not only did she fail in getting her own caucus to support the bill SHE promoted, she then managed to lose crucial GOP votes as well. What a friggin incompetent idiot!
Once again, Nancy Pelosi fails spectacularly in bipartisanship, leadership, and plain common sense. She has accomplished nothing as Speaker and it is time for her to go.
UGH!

Dems could have passed it they are the Majority . They did not want total responsibility for this just hung around their necks before the election if the voters get upset by the bill.
That's why they really, reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly wanted it to be bi-partisan so they both stink of it.
Between Obama ( after all he did take credit for this bill, right? ) and Pelosi the majority of those 95 Dems should have voted for this bill. Or at least enough to get it passed.
Obama failed right along with Pelosi.
Problem is....will the voters see that ?????

According to Politico, the major Dems blocking the bill were the Hispanic and Black Democrats. The Black Caucus refused to back it. Apparently they didn't feel like bailing out a whole lot of rich folks at the expense of their communities.

I don't believe nationalization (socialism) is the answer. I think abolishment of the Fed and a return to some sort of gold backed currency is the answer.

Thats why BO the clown was told by the DEM elders to sit on the issue because he could not help, doesnt know what to do, and if the bailout fails he will get the blame together with the rest of the DEM party.
But in sitting out a crisis or impending crisis for the sake of his political career, this makes him worse than GWB in handling the Katrina crisis. Coz he blames and whines but did not even lift a finger to get engaged and help in anyway.

More proof that BO is more like George Bush than McCain is! Remember the fly-over? - and then BO "phoning it in"....hmmmm.....I suppose a lot of Republicans wouldn't care for that in an ad, however.
