I used to live in Florida, and I have relatives there. We are OUTRAGED that their votes, and the votes of people in Michigan, are not going to count. These are people who went to cast their votes in good faith, believing they were taking part in that most fundamental right of Americans, voting, only to find out that due to no fault of their own they're being disenfranchised. Their votes NEED to count. The DNC is making a grave error penalizing the voters of Florida and Michigan when they're not the ones who screwed up. They voted, they want their votes to count!

Wikipedia definition: Citizenship is membership in a society, community, (originally a city or town but now usually a country) and carries with it rights to political participation; a person having such membership is a citizen. Citizenship status often implies some responsibilities and duties. It is largely coterminous with nationality,[citation needed] although it is possible to have a nationality without being a citizen (i.e., be legally subject to a state and entitled to its protection without having rights of political participation in it); it is also possible to have political rights without being a national of a state. In most nations, a non-citizen is a non-national and called either a foreigner or an alien. Citizenship, which is explained above, is the political rights of an individual within a society. Thus, you can have a citizenship from one country and be a national of another country. One example might be as follows: A Cuban-American might be considered a national of Cuba due to his being born there, but he could also become an American citizen through naturalization. Nationality most often derives from place of birth (i.e. jus soli) and, in some cases, ethnicity (i.e. jus sanguinis). Citizenship derives from a legal relationship with a state. Citizenship can be lost, as in denaturalization, and gained, as in naturalization.
So who is the DNC to take away the citizenship of the people of Florida and Michigan?

We need to call the Campaign Headquarters and encourage Hiliary to participate in the College Tour with Chris Matthews. I think she needs to take the High Road on this one. I was watching it this evening and it gives a lot of "free press" and it generated a lot of excitement among college students.

They had the marching band, cheerleaders and they allowed the students to ask Barack a lot of questions about their needs and concerns. I think it would build a lot of momentum for Hiliary just prior to the primary in Pennsylvania.

Suggestion: If Chelsea accompanied her and was seated in the audience that would be awesome. I know that Chris has not treated Hiliary fairly and the campaign may be a little angry with her, however, she needs to lay down any anger AND HARD FEELINGS and move on and WIN THIS NOMINATION.

WE ARE FOR YOU HILIARY. KEEP PUSHING FORWARD STRONG!!!!!

Signed. The delegates from these states MUST be recognized. The Democratic leaders have to recognize that the voters voted in good faith and cannot/should not be disenfranchised. If the Florida and Michigan delegates are not recognized, it will have negative consequences for the Democratic Party in November. How many of these voters will stay home or vote Republican or for a 3rd Party in protest? It could happen. So hope our Party leaders wake up.

==========
Original rules: 210 delegates total
National party officials have decided to strip Florida of its delegates as a penalty for holding its primary earlier than allowed.

Without the penalty, the primary on Jan. 29 would be the first step in Florida’s nomination process. The state would have a total of 210 delegates — 185 pledged and 25 unpledged. At Congressional district caucuses held on March 1, 121 pledged delegates would be allocated proportionally based on the primary results in each district. The rest of the pledged delegates would be selected by a party committee and would consist of 24 party leaders and elected officials (selected April 5) and 40 at-large delegates (selected May 17). Florida's members of the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic members of the state’s Congressional delegation would make up 22 of the unpledged delegates; the other three would be selected by the party.

Jayling, we need your interpretation please!

Can you help parse the above paragraph? It is beyond my Dem-glish!
Since this was done yesterday, April 5, is that what is referenced above? So, were they picking the April 5 selections? Thanks.

=================
This is what I got from the above:

Total:------------210 delegates
Pledged----------185
unpledged---------25

Congressional district caucuses (date: March 11)---------121 pledged to be proportionately placed based on the primary results in each district.

Party committee decision (selection on April 5)------------24 party leaders and elected officials
At-large delegates (selection on May 17)-----------------40 at large delegates
------------------------------------------------=121+24+40=185

Instead, we are at:
Pledged = 24
Unpledged = 3

Pledged split to: HRC: 14 and BO: 10 ?????????????????????????????????AND THIS IS BASED ON THE JANUARY 29th ELECTIOIN??????
where the vote split was:

Hillary Rodham Clinton-----857,208--------49.7%
Barack Obama------------569,041--------33.0

She won how many counties and by how big a margin?
Go to http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/results/states/FL.html - "Results by County" and "Margin of Victory"

Rep. HOWARD DEAN!!! WE CAN DO MATH!!!
SO FAR, YOU ARE RECOGNIZING ONLY UNDER 25% OF THE PLEDGED AND UNPLEDGED DELEGATES.
WE WANT 100% OF THEM TO BE SEATED OR, a NEW ELECTION HELD.
WE WANT OUR VOICE TO BE FULLY REPRESENTED IN THE PROCESS. PLEASE DO NOT MARGINALIZE THE VOICE OF FL AND MI AND SUCCUMB TO THE GOP STRATEGY.
WE ALSO WANT YOU TO COUNT OUR VOTES AS THEY WERE CAST.

You can blog at the above publication.

================================================== ===========================

Note:
They need to recognize the people's voice and NOT MARGINALIZE IT. Whatever happened was NEITHER the PEOPLE'S fault nor HILLARY'S. SHE HAS WON THE VOTES SHE HAS RECEIVED, FAIR AND SQUARE.. without hoodwinking, I may add.

There should 210 delegates (185 pledged+25 unpledged) from Florida.
There should be 156 delegates (128 pledged + 28 unpledged) from Michigan.

In Florida, Hillary had majority by a huge margin over Barack and the votes must be counted and all delegates seated according to the voting split between Hillary and Barack. The county level distributions must be consider.

In Michigan, Hillary had majority by a huge margin against the sum total of undecided which would include all other candidates. Votes can be counted and delegates seated according to the break between Hillary and undecided. The county level distributions must be consider.

Soaring Eagle

I'm telling you. If Dean does not get Me and others in Michigans votes counted, there will be he** to pay. Michigan has went Democratic in the recent past elections. I believe the people who voted for Hillary in our primary will not vote in the general if our votes don't get counted! Hillary knows that not counting our votes will be disastrous for the Democratic party! Thats why she has been speaking out for us in Michigan and Florida! Can the Democratic nominee win without Michigan or properly seating Florida?

I wrote these in my petition:

DNC! Please be democratic!!
Reasons:
1) MI and FL went to polls. YOU HAD prior knowledge of the dates moving up. If you are SO against it, why didnt you instruct MI+FL dem parties to SHUT DOWN the polling stations??? No station to poll, voters cannot vote! But since you allowed voting to take place -- YOU MUST SEAT THE DELEGATES.

2) If you wish to pander to BO, at the very least WHY DONT YOU ALLOW REVOTE in PRIMARIES? A REVOTE is FAIR TO BOTH CAMPAIGNS, WHY DONT YOU ALLOW revote?? Is it because of politics you wish to support BO as king?

I had a couple of rants on the petition.
Its rediculous everyone has the right to have a vote and have a say especially in such key states as Michigan and Florida who know how to pick a winner. But once again what Obama wants or in this case doesnt want it doesnt happen. Howard Dean has a lot to answer for hear. He is not making a contribution to this democratic party, he is not doing his job properly.
Its unbelievable given the fact that where in 2008 and the fact the results are there to see. But i think this decision was made indefinately not to sit these delegates when Clinton won both of these states. Surely the democratic party must realise the republicans will be all over this come the November election. Mccain has already had a little jibe on American Idol and where only in April.

It goes against democratic principle to disenfranchise any voters! We have an organized effort to leave the democratic party if the votes are not counted as they should be. We will leave the Democratic Party as many have already done. We want Hillary as the nominee.

Be sure to state that those votes are certified by the State of Florida, therefore legal and binding. ;);) They have no right to tell a state that they are going to apportion the votes out however which way they want. Like I said certified and recorded.

They sent it to me again as well. I started a thread here a couple months ago and it got a great response! I hope the petition doesn't get tarnished by people signing it twice. This thread should be merged with the thread i started a while back and then brought back to the main room. This way people can look through the thread to see if they signed it before they sign it again. http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=3534

Bill asked me to post this for him:

Florida and Michigan Delegate Policy Considerations

Deterrence versus Retribution:

There are two possible alternative policies justifications for the DNC action against Florida and Michigan:

(1) Deter other states from a mad dash to the earliest primary, OR

(2) Revenge for harm done to the party by failure to follow guidelines.

As to deterrence, what is the chief benefit to a state from an early primary? Surely it is the publicity and advertising revenue generated by an early primary. By barring the candidates from making campaign appearances or advertising, the deterrence purpose is accomplished.

As to revenge, clearly no harm has been done to the party, so there should be no need for revenge.

I conclude that the goal of the DNC rule was accomplished by depriving Florida and Michigan of publicity and advertising revenue. There is no reason to punish the voters who took the trouble to go to the polls and express their preferences.

The Florida and Michigan delegates should participate in the national convention according to the wishes of the voters of those states. If Michigan was winner-take-all, then Hillary should receive the full number of Michigan delegates. The voters in Michigan had a choice between Hillary and generic (ideal) Democrat. Surely Michigan voters decided that Hillary met and exceeded every quality jointly displayed by all of her opponents together. For that reason, the fact that she won over "uncommitted" is truly and honestly significant.

Much has been made of the fact that Obama "didn't have the opportunity to campaign" in Florida and Michigan. Does anyone think that Florida and Michigan voters weren't following the news as the campaign progressed in other states? Why must one assume that voters are only properly prepared for an election when they have been exposed to pounds of junk mail, repeated "robocalls" and bombarded with 60 second commercials containing little substance?

How did our Democracy survive for nearly two centuries without robocalls, 60 second videos, and junk mail?

May 26, 2008

Signed for all votes to be counted. For Hillary and for the future of our country. If these votes are not counted then I may never vote again because that would mean that the votes in North Carolina did not count either.

This has to be made right or we are dealing a deadly blow to democracy.

Dear Hillary:

Thank you for the courage that you've inspired in women everywhere. Thank you for reminding us that we fought hard for the right to vote on August 26, 1920 and that we must still fight hard to establish balance between women and men.

We've come some distance as women but we are not where we want to be and this election has made that fact blatantly apparent.

You dear Hillary are a winner and your name shall echo through the annals of history. In 1000 years women will be discussing your great courage for women rights and for human rights.

You are legend! You also have all the traits of which greatness is made. I am so sorry about those that betrayed you for no reason. People that would never have been heard of had you not had given them a chance. I know the feeling of betrayal. However, I feel more sympathy for those that betrayed us because that is something that they have to live with everyday.

Don’t give a thought to those that betrayed you but think of all of us who love you dearly and we will be with you until this is resolved by the Grace of God. You are our hero.

Much love,

AbbyWilson9
