Murrray -Do you know if Montana & S. Dakota have caucuss's or regular primaries ? article in Cheyenne paper today (capital city of Wyoming) announcing that Gov Freudenthal SD who endorsed OB will be going to Billings Montana( May 10th) to speak at the Montana Democratic party's Harry S. Truman annual dinner. Bill Clinton will also speak at the event at Montana State university-Billings, stumping for Hillary - What I found interesting was all the news media say the Gov is walking a fine line by doing this, because he wll offend a huge amount of Hillary supporters in Wyo, and believe me he needs every democrat vote to win his rerun for Gov in a very Republican state. I cant believe he is going toe to toe next weekend with the person (Bill Clinton) who gave him a critical political boost , 1994 Bill appointed him U.S attorney for wyo, a job he kept for 7 years, Another turn-coat- I hope every Hillary supporter in Wy. does not vote for him in his gov re-run - I certainly will not vote for him again!!!!!!

Murrray -Do you know if Montana & S. Dakota have caucuss's or regular primaries ?
Not Murray but I can answer this part for ya :)

Montana is an Open Primary (http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/MT-D.phtml#0603)
South Dakota is a Closed Primary (http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/SD-D.phtml#0603)

1. Daschle tried to make it an open primary but he was denied !! :p

2. I know at least one SD who was severely threatened/pressured to go FLUFF's way:mad:

3. Does anyone believe in reverse-karma?... i.e. A major Dem leader loses their seat a few years ago due to future misbehavior being shown in this primary campaign.

smsemedic

we have a closed primary.
also, every politician in this state has gotten emails, letters, etc....as they are all in bed with obama! it is awful! this is a bit of a scarey state! i am doing my part. i travel around the state doing medical exams, etc.....and it is really interesting, a majority of the people i talk to in the rural areas are pro Hillary! the older and wiser people seem to smell his vibe.....they can see right thru it! also, i do some medic work on a reservation....and those residents want to know what hillary is going to do for them on the reservation. they believe bill did a lot for them during his term. so i continually try to educate. i have even run into people who are anti-hillary because they think her universal healthcare is like canada's....... so i try to enlighten every soul i see!!! we are not known as a state of activists.....except me!!!

I truly believe that if it was not for these caucuss states Hillary would be ahead & I do not believe for one minute that all his money is coming from grass roots doners,(he must think we are plain stupid) I am on pins and needles till Tues but I just know she is going to pull a upset, all the pundits are leaning that way too, but many still say she cant catch up to him, The SD are really in a pickle, They are so afraid of offending OB supporters even tho they must know Hillary is the better candidate to go up against McCain. To me it all hinges on Fla & Mich primary votes being counted - Maybe she would not pass him but she would come very close - The SD then need to do thier job - pick the best candidate for the fall election - Well Hillary is done talking and OB is coming on so will switch the channell - Watched Meet the Preess this am - he spent the first half of program trying to explain Wright, the rest bashing Hillary. He only got 30 min - Russert had a supreme court judge on, unless I missed some of it!!@! I think OB is running scared as he is on every tlk show trying to explain Wright - I just loved Hillary with George S. She never missed a beat on questions from him or the audience - She is so well informed on every issue,Wonderful on middle East policies!!

Keep praying for Tues and we will go crazy blogging & donating!!! Keep fighting for Hillary Montana & S. Dakota - Maybe after Tues I can settle down and try to do some phone banking up thier!!!

I have a question for you South Dakotans working for the Clinton campaign. Do you all have some kind of Native American outreach program? You know, a plan to focus on both those on and off reservations? I ask, because at 8.8% of the population (as of 2000) they are far and above the largest minority group in the state of South Dakota, and at that percentage many times over the national average. It seems given Obama's advantage with Daschle, that any little bit counts and it would be more than smart to have an NA outreach program.

smsemedic
05-17-2008, 08:07 AM
great question. if you go to hillary's website, go to "south dakota." she has a plan/agenda listed for native americans.
also, just and fyi....daschle is not a well liked guy here. tho i have voted for him lots in the past. south dakotans are hardcore repubs.......so each mind i can educate everyday, the better. the older generation is seeming to be gung ho about hillary, and when they talk about obama, it isn't pretty. very interesting! i can also tell you that at the last two rallies with hillary here last week, there were plenty of college age kids!!!! but back to your question....i will make sure the outreach is out there!!!

hey gang! i live in so dak. i have been posting on other so dak threads....so read those if you would like. yesterday, i went to an invitation only event with hillary and a small group of people! it was great!! ...other than a state legislator who sat right in front of me....who attacked me after it was over. he told me he was an obama supporter and that i needed to vote for his candidate for the sake of the party. read the other entries for an animated blow-by-blow!! i have been working at the hillary office here. interestingly enough, obama has just opened an office here also. in fact, on my home from the hillary event, i got an obama call....wanted to know if i would vote obama on june 3rd......so i had fun telling him NO WAY, NO HOW, NEVER!! today i am spending the day canvassing. and we will have staffers staying with us thru the primary. so i will try to keep posting any updates i have. south dakota is a raging repub state....but i really think hillary has a chance here, if we get out the vote!! and work our tails off ! a lot of the residents here fall into hillarys "type."

yes, this media thing is a joke! hillary was merely telling the wannabe journalist about timelines re: primaries. i makes me sick that this is all they have to use against her. they are really trying to break her! EVERYONE knows the respect the clintons have for the kennedy's!!! and the newspaper...the argus leader, owned by gannett has not endorsed....but they sure seem to be in bed with obama. so we shall see. everyone needs to get busy calling!!!

I wouldn't bash the Argus just yet. They did put out a press release immediately after her comments in her defense. Now, if they endorse Obama then we can bash them. ;)

Keep up the great work, smsemedic. BTW, what part of the state are you from and which parts of the state would you say are behind each candidate?

ok gang...here is my update for today. i spent 10 hours or so canvassing. it was really interesting. a lot of people are for hillary!! only truly a handful were for obama. the undecideds i think i killed with kindness and data! the one thing we kept getting from the "older" generation (unsolicited) was that they stated "i do not trust obama...." so that was interesting. it seemed that the obama people were the 40something's with two SUV's in the drive. we had one little girl that said she was really interested in the election.. when asked who she was for....she said....."obama, because he is for cheaper gas for poor people!" and she was told, well, actually hillary is!!! we told her to get more involved...that she is the future. she will be checking out hillary sites now that she has the addresses. she was sweet. then, met a 94 year old woman.....that was so cute! hillary all the way she said....it is about time a woman runs "that white house!" so tomorrow, another day spent canvassing, then off to see Bill in the evening! we sure need help here.....so anyone that wants to come...........please do!!!

hey again! ok, i just got back from a rally with Bill in wagner, south dakota. wagner is a SMALL town! there were probably 5-600 people there. let me tell you, and i hate to sound sexist....but he looks better each time i see him! what a wonderful guy. he spoke for about an hour and a half. i miss hearing that eloquence from a prez!! hillary will give us that!! he spelled out hillary's plans as clear as a bell! if anyone had a question in the crowd, or were undecided.....no longer! i just wish bill could tour every town.......we would sweep this state. i truly think he is hillary's best endorsement! then i got to shake his hand and say hello.....so that made my evening. i am such a nerd that way! so tomorrow it is back to phoning and canvassing.
what we really need are canvassers and phoners. i really get concerned that in our rural communities....we do not have the time to reach them all...and they are important too! they deserve to be seen and heard from. the canvassing seems to focus on cities that are "so big..." so to be able to go to farms and small towns would be ideal!!! in a REALLY short time!!! and i am not sure how we could reach those people via activate, since we do not know where in the state we are calling unless we ask.....any ideas??? i am excited tho....i think hillary really has a shot here.........even tho the pundits and the "best political team on television" says............not a chance. keep sending the vibes gang!!!! we can feel it!

The REv Wright thing will never go away for Obama. Why should it? He is a major part of his life. I do belive Obama is in bed with republicans in some of these states because they know he will be an easier target than hillary.so they have nothing to lose right now..But of course he has 55 other states to count on!

Just for the record (and we hope it changes) [OLD POLLS-pre and post Wiight]

Dakota Wesleyan University Poll, conducted on 24 March, showed Obama leading Clinton by 12 % points – 46 % to 34 % among South Dakota Democratic primary voters. With MoE ± 6 %, the poll indicated a big win for Obama.

Again, Dakota Wesleyan University conducted a statewide poll on 3 April. The poll showed Obama leading Clinton by 12 % points – 46 % to 34 % among South Dakota Democratic primary voters. With MoE ±4 %, the poll indicated a huge win for Obama.

However, no South Dakota Poll has come out yet in the current month of May.

hey gang! ok, it is 8pm here in south dakota. here is my update to all of you for the day. i canvassed all day long and activated at our office for the past 4 hours. i want to tell you all.........i feel really good! these people are wanting hillary!!! it seems i do not get many obama folks!!!!! and any of the undecideds seem to be leaning to hillary.... those that are for hillary are absolutely adamant about NOT voting obama. today, i feel encouraged. also, this state has roughly 185,00 democrats registered to vote...(i know, poor number..) but what this means for you and i is that every undecided person you can educate....equals a lot!!!! so when you are calling people, really take a moment to educate them. thanks for all that all of you are doing!!! we really appreciate it!!! consider coming to south dakota for the weekend!!!! more tomorrow.......we are in it to win!!!!!!!!!!!!

me again with your friendly, daily update. spent the day canvassing and calling voters about events and their support in between doors knocked....really working the "undecideds." i think i had lots of luck! then drove to vermillion, sd to work the event with Bill Clinton. the event was great! passed out a million signs, etc. there were some obamanots of course....and i was given the honor of keeping an eye on them. well, they actually were not real nice. they would not follow my instructions on sign in, etc. they continue to amaze me....they all seem to have such a "chip" on their shoulders.....and a bit angry. interesting. at any rate, today i am out to canvas again! btw....hillary received the endorsement of the argus leader newspaper....which surprised all of us!!!! but a good thing!!!!

Thank you for your daily updates. It is really appreciated. Why were you surprised that Hillary got the Argus leader newspaper endorsement?

they seemed to be favoring obama in previous stories....just smelled of "obama influence." but a great endorsement! a LOT of people throughout the state subscribe to the paper.

In my calls to South Dakota I liked the general feel of the people there! Most were very nice and there are many pro Hillary! But there are still some undecided, so help with the calls!

I think she's pretty much written off MT in lieu of concentrating on SD. That is why she's spending her last day before the Primary stumping there... I think the poll numbers are much closer for her in SD then in MT.... which I don't understand MT is full of gun loving voters which you would think wouldn't be friendly territory for Obama in lieu of his gun comments and bitter! LOL

ok...so i canvassed all day! people are really pushing for hillary. i did rural south dakota for the first half of the day....then was sent to yankton to canvas. i was really honored.....i was assigned to take congressman jim mcgovern from mass with me for a couple of hours to canvas yankton. he is one of hillary's supers. what a nice man. we had some great conversations about EVERYTHING!! obama apparently thought he should "show up" in this state again, so had breakfast in sioux falls....which is a county he will pull anyway, then went to mitchell for a rally. the whole clinton crew will be around today. hillary is coming to yankton today....so i will work that event. i believe she will start in rapid city, then yankton, then sioux falls. i really think our girl is going to pull it off here!!!! keep working!!! today i will head out and canvas rural south dakota til i need to go work the event.

He needs 66-18 from yesterday (48 by my records) I don't think there are 48 delegates total both States combined and he's going to end up splitting them for the most part with Clinton.

He's NOT going to make his 2118 for presumptive nominee!

Let us not be complacent because of this, but here is the latest poll out of South Dakota:

American Research Group: May 31 - June 1

Clinton: 60%
Obama: 34%
Undecided: 6%

It seems to be that all those that have called, donated, and volunteered in other ways have really made the difference.

yes, this media thing is a joke! hillary was merely telling the wannabe journalist about timelines re: primaries. i makes me sick that this is all they have to use against her. they are really trying to break her! EVERYONE knows the respect the clintons have for the kennedy's!!! and the newspaper...the argus leader, owned by gannett has not endorsed....but they sure seem to be in bed with obama. so we shall see. everyone needs to get busy calling!!!

Gannett owns the big papers in Maine -- I hate them. They're "owned" with deep pockets by the major real estate developers and the banks that hand them NEW CONSTRUCTION financing by the 100 millions, and together they have been coming up here and bulldozing historic sites, wetlands, and landmarks, strip mining the land, devastating the forests with malls on top of malls and development on top of development. It's getting so bad, there's no more space any more. Like the DNC and tv, they work together in an attempt to fool us into thinking this is anything but a scam. But when it happens so much, and everyone has seen their neighborhoods crumble and vanish for what is so OBVIOUSLY BULLSHIT, no one believes them anymore.

The Gannett blogs are full of people who write for the developers and pretend they're from Maine, but clearly, they're not.

It's really a bad sign when the media has been so monopolized by fraud and greed we literally have no way to get news any more except for the Internet blogs. And beware, there have been attempts to take the Internet away.

Wow, that's great news! Let's hope that holds up in the actual primary Tuesday.
The home page for ARG also gives the polls for Montana showing Hillary only trailing by 4 points, with 8% undecided:

Let's get those undecideds mobilized in Hillary's direction!

ok....so i canvassed all day in rural areas....went well. then went to yankton to work the hillary event. wow........an amazing turnout!!!!! yankton is a small town where we have a hillary office....we had 1000 people!!!!!! HQ had underestimated the turnout!!! so all of our canvassing has really worked!!! there was a woman i saw who's house i had knocked on....and she was leaning obama.....i spent a few minutes with her about why hillary is the best choice....well, on her way out of the rally, she stopped me and said........"you were right, i am going to vote for HIllary!!! so i was thrilled!!!! face to face contact makes all the difference in the world!!! today, i FINALLY get to vote!!! then off to work for hillary for the day!!! thanks so much everyone!! i truly believe we will win this state!!!

Voting started, any idea people are coming out to vote.
MSN are working very hard to discourage Hillary voters.
I hope they are not affected by media nonsense.
But can do reverse for Obama, people will think he is the one and don't go out to vote. I am hoping low turnout for his supporters.

Obama supporters already think he has it so the clinton suppoters will come out in big numbers and Montana is 7% Native American so that should help us a bit.Native Americans in South Dakota are supporting so i'm sure that the same will happen in Montana when it comes to Native Americans.

You really are making a difference! Great work!! I agree with you about face-to-face contact. That's what worked best for me in Oregon. The state went for Obama, but in this area, it was close and I think our ground level campaigning was a big factor.

Thank you, South Dakota for putting a little polished gold in a sea of purple:

To me, South Dakota shows what Hillary could have done if she'd been able to compete in primaries in the Great Plains.
