On July 2, 2008, Barack Obama gave a powerful and moving speech in Colorado Springs, honoring America’s upcoming Independence Day. Barack spoke of the need for teaching the youth of America to take their citizenship seriously and how he as President will achieve that:
“we need to integrate service into education, so that young Americans are called upon and prepared to be active citizens. Just as we teach math and writing, arts and athletics, we need to teach young Americans to take citizenship seriously.”
He said that when he’s President, he will set a goal for all American middle and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year and for all college students to perform 100 hours of service a year.
“We'll reach this goal in several ways. At the middle and high school level, we'll make federal assistance conditional on school districts developing service programs, and give schools resources to offer new service opportunities. At the community level, we'll develop public-private partnerships so students can serve more outside the classroom.”

According to Obama, imposing compulsory volunteerism on our children will help the kids do better in school and become better citizens. But what does conscription mean for an Obama administration? Well, let’s look at this.
There are approximately 35 million children in the United States between the ages of 10 and 18 who are enrolled in middle and high school. If each child is made to work 50 hours a week, that’s 350 hours by the time they graduate from high school if Obama is a two term President. The collective number of hours worked by the children comes to over 12 billion hours. If the children were paid $6.55 minimum wage for their labor, it would come to over $81 billion. So, the benefit that the Obama administration would reap by conscripting our children and forcing them into child labor performing tasks that the government would normally pay for (and at a much higher rate) comes to over $81 billion!
The question is: How do you think Obama should spend the $81 billion that he profited from off of the labor of our children?
1. Rebate checks to all families of conscripted children
2. Health care for the families of conscripted children
3. Use the $81 billion towards the deficit
4. Give the money to ACORN
5. Other
