View Full Version : (10/26/08) Is vote suppression working? FOX News poll

Today, Bret Baier, a host on Fox News Election '08, showed an online, unscientific, poll, which asked viewers how they were going to vote in this election. (I cannot find this poll anywhere on the Fox News website.)

It asked voters if they were going to vote in person, or by absentee ballot. The majority of respondents, 48 percent, answered that they are not going to vote at all!

We, on this forum, are working so hard, around the clock, to educate voters regarding the truth about Obama. It's frustrating to think some people might give this thing away to Obama, just because they think he is going to win anyway.

Please make sure everyone you know goes to the polls to vote for McCain. Don't let them sit this out!

I think (and this is just my personal opinion) that a lot of people right now are just being polled to death, and aren't giving most a valid answer.

That's why I don't trust the polls.

We've seen people on this forum who have told us that they tell people calling for polls that they are voting for Obama due to safety issues, but they are voting for McCain in the voting booth. We have no reason to doubt the veracity of their statements because they have worked as hard as you and I to elect first Hillary, then John McCain, for President.

If these people are doing that, then many other people are doing exactly the same thing.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why I do not trust the polls.

That, plus, if you know how, you can skew the numbers anyway you want. Obama was winning every poll in the books but Hillary was beating him in the primary elections.

I truly believe that they have padded the polls all along just so that when Obama does lose people who thought he had it in the bag, will be furious enough to take matters in their own hands. I don't see them just meekly going on about their business if they end up not getting their way on this.

I can't believe that 48% of any American circle is that big a hopeless crybaby. Nope. This poll is wrong and admittedly unscientific. Don't believe it. Bots most likely slammed it to discourage Mac supporters.

Well if that the case then the Republicans deserve everything coming to them. The early voting lines in Dade, Droward< and Plam beach counties are huge. Hours long. While I have noticed that in the more conservative communities the lines were short no more than 15 minutes or so.

The Democrats are getting thier people out but then we were always better at that then the republicans.

Sounds like this poll was rigged by bots.

There's no way in hell would 48% of Fox news viewers would say they're not voting. Too bad they actually published this poll instead of realizing they just got played.

Does anybody know what the normal percentage of registered voters that vote actually is? I do know that on election night coverage, I have heard a lot about a 50% turnout or a 40% turnout. THis poll is probably Bot driven but I think there are a lot of people who never vote (I have friends, in their 50's who have never voted...pathetic.)

Early voters are Democrats. They're saying it is running about even in FL; IIRC, roughly even numbers of absentees vs early voters ... with the party registration in the former camp being 2:1 and the latter being 1:2 Rep : Dem... which is NOT a bad sign.

Republicans are smart enough to skip the lines and actually use absentee ballots, and suspicious enough to wait till Election Day lest their ballot be tempered with.

I'm sure that paranoia is worse in FL after 2000.

Kerry had a 20% lead in ALABAMA in early voting. That tells you everything you need to know.

The Republicans *will* be there.

Okay..this is from the US Census Bureau as regards voter turnout:
U.S. Voter Turnout Up in 2004, Census Bureau Reports

Sixty-four percent of U.S. citizens age 18 and over voted in the 2004 presidential election, up from 60 percent in 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today. Tables from a November survey also show that of 197 million citizens, 72 percent (142 million) reported they were registered to vote. Among those registered, 89 percent (126 million) said they voted. In the 2000 election, 70 percent of citizens were registered; and among them, 86 percent voted.

Other highlights from the Voting and Registration in the Election of November 2004 online tables pertaining to the voting-age citizen population:

•In 2004, turnout rates for citizens were 67 percent for non-Hispanic whites, 60 percent for blacks, 44 percent for Asians and 47 percent for Hispanics (of any race). These rates were higher than the previous presidential election by 5 percentage points for non-Hispanic whites and 3 points for blacks. By contrast, the voting rates for Asian and Hispanic citizens did not change. These data pertain to those who identified themselves as being of a single race. (See Table 1. [Excel])

For comparison to FL, check out this article. http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/2004-10-31-fla-voters_x.htm

Jenice McLemore drove three hours from Miami to Orlando so she could stand in line two hours to vote. McLemore, who is voting for Kerry, moved earlier this year but had not yet changed her voting registration. So she had to go back to Orlando to cast her ballot. She said she didn't mind.

The passions of the political debate in this state have not ebbed since President Bush won Florida, and the presidency, by only 537 votes in 2000. Mike Vega, 57, decided to wait in line two hours Sunday to cast his ballot for Bush because "it's a really important election."

Early voting plays to the long-held view that the larger the turnout, the better the chances for Democratic candidates. A Miami Herald poll Sunday shows that among the 16% of voters who cast ballots early, Kerry drew 56%, compared with Bush, who received 39%.

I know a lot of people who never vote. The voter turnout is always horrible. I don't get that doesn't the American people know how many people died so we can vote for people to represent us. Doesn't the American people know that black people were prevented from voting in the South and risked their lives to do so. I always find that unforgivable.
I am disappointed that Hillary did not win the election and I wasn't excited about McCain and I disliked Obama I still planned to do my civic duty and not only vote but to donate money and campaign for my choice. I am very excited about McCain now because he proved to me that he is willing to listen.
48% that is to high and even if it is like that every year it is far to many people failing to fulful their Citizenship requirements.
To me that is just one of the prices we pay for living in this Country.
