Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he can “guarantee” a win on Nov. 4 in a squeaker victory that won’t be clear until late that night.

McCain was down just 5 points in the Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released Sunday, with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) leading by 49 percent to 44 percent among likely voters in the daily tracking poll, which has a margin of error of 2.9 points.

Reuters reported that Obama's lead has dropped over the last three days after hitting a high of 12 points on Thursday. Pollster John Zogby said: "Things are trending back for McCain. His numbers are rising and Obama's are dropping on a daily basis. There seems to be a direct correlation between this and McCain talking about the economy."

The Washington Post reported Sunday: "[I]nside the McCain campaign the mood remains one of gritty resolve. Top aides know they are behind, but they hold out hope and, like their candidate, stubbornly refuse to give up."

McCain told Brokaw in Waterloo, Iowa, that he feels "like Knute Rockne ... go out there and get one for the Gipper."

“We are very competitive in battleground states," McCain said. "Obviously, I choose to trust my senses as well as polls. The enthusiasm at almost all of our [events] is at a higher level than I've ever seen, and I've been in a lot of presidential campaigns, usually as the warm-up act. ... And I see intensity out there, and I see passion. So we're very competitive.”

McCain added: “We're going to have to just get out our vote, work hard over the next nine days, and make sure that people know that there'll be a better future. People are very worried now — very, very worried, and have every reason to be. I think it's all about who can assure a better future.”

McCain has it figured out, just like the Big Dawg did when he was running:

"It's the economy, stupid."

"That One" was basing his win on overinflated polling. McCain is basing his win on his economic policies and how he sees people reacting to him and his message.

I think "That One" better rethink that Inaugural message. McCain is right. He isn't going to need it.

Zogby just pull numbers out of his posterior for publicity purpose. I didn't trust his polls even when they were favorable to our side.

People's political preference don't change overnight. In my opinion, the state of the race is pretty much the same as early September. Of the states that Bush won, Iowa and New Mexico are probably lost. Colorado is even chance and could decide the race. If McCain takes Pennsylvania, it's game-over for Obama.

It's not so much what Zogby is saying, (and you know they hate saying it) but more of what McCain himself is saying.........

The speech posted on the forum from Colorado was as good or better than anything Obama has ever done. McCain was on the money, pumped, articulate and looking very presidential. His campaign knows something! (If you have not listened to that, search for. It had great music over the top of the speech and it was just a very proud moment for this county and McCain.

National polls are useless anyway.

The important thing is that McCain is within 1-5 points in all the states he needs to win except Virginia. If he can squeeze out a win in Virginia or in Pennsylvania, then I am confident he will win.

So basically, when the numbers from the eastern time zones are in, I think we will know who the winner. If McCain wins Florida, North Carolina, and either Virginia or Pennsylvania, I'm pretty sure that things will be going his way.

I seem to think that the McCain pollsters know something more than the other pollsters are saying and reporting...They are still playing in Iowa and PA, even though the MSM has said these states are out of reach...so why would they be there...unless they know something we don't..I know one thing..November 5th will be an interesting day...we will either learn that McCain had brilliant team that beat the huge money machine of Obama, or..that the McCain team led him down a really bad path..

I think we will see McCain elected..the reason is that Obama should have been way out ahead of McCain in this political and economic invironment, but this race is still close a week out.....funny how you don't hear the experts that claimed Obama had to be 15 points up or lose saying that now...

EVERY SINGLE TALKING HEAD has been saying from the day Hillary CLinton suspended that if Obama is not up by double digits his campaign could be considered to be in "real trouble". I don't believe he was ever up by double digits but even allowing for some of those bizarro poll numbers, he never stayed there for more than a day. All his money, all the hype, all the grassroots supporters and a tanking economy that should have given his campaign wings and NOTHING has helped him. If it were not for the conspiratorial media, Obama would have been gone a long time ago.
McCain-Palen are positioned to win. With the crowds they are drawing, it has to be more than just Pubs...No one has ever really factored in the Puma/dissatisfied Clinton voters, the LGBT community, the bitter and gun toting folks of either party. the Latino/Hispanic vote, the Jewish vote and women...I think there is a HUGE, GYNORMOUS silent majority that is going to roll over Obama like a Sherman Tank. As crowded as it is under Obama's bus, he's going to be flat enough to slide right under.

Yesterday, his numbers for today were leaked at 5 PM on the Pacific coast. Hello... he should be starting the plurality of polling across the country then, not ending it.

If Zogby does all his polls during business hours, he's an idiot.

ESSENTIAL to GOTV until polls close. Those last 2-4 hours, when the corrupt MSM is "calling" states for BO, are the time McCain turnout needs to be huuuuuge.
