View Full Version : "Obot" vs. "Hillbot"
I am interested to know...
Why do some people think it's ok to refer to these Obama supporters (new to this forum) as "obots"? If they referred to you as "hillbots" how would you feel? I am sure you would be offended/angered. How do you expect them to react when you call them an "obot"? Can they not just be an "obama supporter", just like you are a "hillary supporter"?
It's a serious question to be considered.
It's possible to disagree with someone 100% without insulting them personally.

It's a matter of intolerance. I'm sure if the people doing the name calling could ban the person they're disagreeing with from posting they would.
They like freedom of speech as long as it coincides with their views.
I am now also referred to as an "obot" for allowing Obama supporters to post in this forum.
Nevermind that I continue to critique Obama & such.
In addition to Obama supporters, apparently an "obot" is also anyone that doesn't wage war against Obama 24/7.

Hence why this forum is changing its approach & opening to people who hold differing views.

Personally, I wouldn't call anyone a "__bot". That's just silly. It's childish.
You'll also never see me posting about "kool-aid", unless I make a pitcher of it (doubtful, I gave up the stuff after I discovered coffee) - plus, I also find the "kool-aid" reference a bit offensive (re: Jim Jones). I realize it's practically a mainstream phrase, and if others use the phrase... well, that's their prerogative.
Still, I thought TaoofBill's Kool-Aid avatar was kinda funny. Thankfully, I do have a sense of humor.

Okay, I'll try this.
I would submit that the "Obots" seem to to merely stick with the campaign talking points and vague, abstract promises. My observation has been that they latch onto two or three of those points and repeat them, even when not applicable to the particular debate.
I came to the forum because I was interested in Hillary as a candidate. I was familiar with the issues, knew the public images that had been painted, and yet needed more convincing. What I found here was not the stuff I saw in campaign ads or media coverage. I found real people that made some well-reasoned arguments. Arguments that were thoughtfully supported by lots of research and facts. Stuff the campaign itself didn't even touch on.
I did see a few people that I could perhaps label as HillBots, but they were never the ones that appealed to my sensibilities.
That's my attempt to succinctly state what I see as the difference.

Yes, it does go both ways. Whenever anyone is intensely committed to holding a certain opinion/belief/position, facts which threaten that are usually ignored/dismissed. It's fairly standard conduct & very difficult to combat.

I think Hillary is very intelligent and it would not upset me to be called a hillbot. I am following intelligence and experience. I wont critique the other side as it will not be as favorable, pretty much the opposite of my opinion of Hillary. I like hilldawg, I think that is funny. None of it bothers me. I researched BOTH candidates thoroughly before making my final decision. I still stand behind that research. The only differance is that I am going to let his actions determine the final analysis. Versus just going by my research. Hopefully I was 180 degrees out. For the good of our country!

But PUMA can still make sure that caucus fraud, media bias, and all the other stuff we experience through the campaign are fought against still. There are many sites which are 100% pro-obama and many sites which are 100% anti-obama. Are there many sites where people from both camps can communicate without hating each other daily? No. HCF is trying to become one such site where people from all sides can at least be civil to each other.

It's often problematic to make broad generalizations.
Actually, many participants in this forum have, historically, shown no interest in the birth certificate story or the Ayers story.
As an aside, I think a politician's r/ships and associations - both past and present - are relevant discussion points. What conclusions people draw from analysis of those r/ships and associations, however, is where disagreement sets in.

Why DO they think it's okay? Does it mean they think they are better than you are, because you think differently from them? It just seems a little self-righteous. I never heard the word Obamabot until recently. Hillbot? Seems fair?

Did you come here to call us right-wingers? How productive of your time.
Hardly; I was simply comparing the negative grouping of Obama-supporters here to the negative grouping of liberals at Sean Hannity's forum.

I'm confused to where I made broad generalizations.
I agree that there are differences in how people view a politicians' limited associations. I, for one, see an association-battle erupt in every political season, and I think it's pointless and distracts from the issues. Others, of course, might think differently.
I'm confused to where I made broad generalizations.
Probably just the bolded part:

A hot topic implies it is one that most people are interested in. A lot of people were/are not interested in the BC and/or Ayers stories.
Perhaps also the forum titles misled you (which is my fault) as the main room lists it being about "hot topics". I should change that as the main room is simply the entry point for all new political discussion threads, regardless of what they are about.
Also...The "research" comment about chain emails and Sean Hannity is possibly a type of generalization - the way your comment was stated implied that you thought most people from HCF rely on chain emails and Sean Hannity for info which is obviously not true. But maybe I misinterpreted your intention in making that statement.

Unless you are denying that there were a large amount of threads concerning Obama's birth certificate, William Ayers, Tony Rezko, etc. then that remains a fact, depending on your definition of "hot topic". I'm sure neither of us can account to the percentage of people interested in those subjects, but I can only assume that you acknowledge the deep and large number of discussions related to those topics.

I believe that you're misconstruing my intent. On the contrary, I would assume that most of the members here would not have replied citing any of those subjects as research, but I would assume that at least one person would respond with exactly that, and not because I'm on this forum in particular, but because those subjects are often associated with Barack Obama and are likely to come up on a forum which is overwhelmingly anti-Obama.

Yes, there were many discussions about those topics, that's true.

Ok, my understanding has been clarified.

Agree with that.
Really? There were 62 million Obama voters, how many votes did Hillary get? Statically speaking, there would be more informed Obama voters than Hillary based purely on the fact that Obama got way more votes than the "18 million" strong you guys all claimed to be.

Honestly, I don't really see all that deragatory in the term "bot". I sure don't take offense in Hillbot. By the way a "bot" in the insect world is fly larvae that is a pesky nuisance, unsightly, but benign and stick to hair like cement. Lets lighten up!

You surely must be joking?? Comparing PRIMARY VOTES to G.E. VOTES is insane!
Obama may have had 62 mill. G.E. Votes, but he had LESS primary votes than HRC.Remember,SHE GOT THE POPULAR VOTE!!!
What,are you 12 and don't get it??

That depends entirely on how you count the popular vote. There was no solid way to count it because no one cares about the popular vote in the primary.

So,lets compare the votes in the primary to those in the G.E.,because after all,HRC was running in the G.E. wasn't she?? Do you seriously think it is an accurate way of comparison??
I care about the primary vote,as do millions of others who have for years.
Comparing the two is assinine.
FYI,the Popular vote in the Primary is counted the same way it is in the G.E.
That should be obvious to you!
Anytime there is anything positive to say about HRC,you guys feel the need to discount it and claim it's insignificance.Cute.

No of course not. It's silly to make that comparison. The voting turnout is much larger in the GE.
But the primary popular vote is not counted the same way it is in the GE. It is much more accurate in the GE. The problem with going by the popular vote in the primaries was that caucus states don't keep track of the popular vote. Also Michigan definitely complicated the hell out of the popular vote making a lot of people not even want to count it. Then you have people voting in US territories which many refuse to count because they don't get to vote in the GE.
Personally i consider the popular vote in the primary too close to call. There are too many complicated factors and inaccurate numbers to determine who got how many votes. They both got 18 million and change. If one was ahead it was likely by less than 1%. So I really find it quite silly to claim the people wanted the other to be the nominee because we don't have an accurate enough count to know for sure.

I wouldn't mind being called a Hillbot. That said, Hillary supporters tend to be thinking people. The way people, by all means necesary, wanted Obama in was just fasinating. Now he's brought all of the Clinton "people" on his team including Hillary???????? All of a sudden everyone loves Hillary. He couldn't have done it without her. They had a deal.
Actually 13, my birthday was last week.
Will you just quit it already? Hillary lost, there was no conspiracy, no media bias, nothing. The Ice Queen just didn't inspire as many people.
No media bias, and no sexism, AT ALL... are you out of your ******* mind!
And Ice queen is bit over the top... she was a hell of a lot more real than Obama.

No, I'm being realistic. Now, it may have happened here and there, bot not nearly as much as you would like to believe. You only saw what you wanted to see. Those Obama supporters in that video did the same thing. It's called confirmation bias.
You wanna know what's sexist? A man voting for McCain because Plain is 'hot'.

For the Hillary-isn't-any-good crowd, I will be qualified as a HillBot i.e. someone who thinks Hillary is a good person and defending her in the net.
Btw, that's just my own interpretation of the definition.
