Are Obama and Michael Bloomberg Secretly Planning a Third Party Candidacy?

Posted on February 18, 2008 by mrpinkeyes

I heard about this rumor on Rush today and had to look into it. According to this article on Human Events, Barack Obama has already held a secret meeting with New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The reason for this meeting is that Barack Obama has realized that in all likelihood he could win the popular vote, and hold the delegate lead heading into the Democrat National Convention, but because he may not have enough delegates to secure the nomination the candidate will be chosen by the super delegates. Because these super delegates are Democrat party insiders, the likely result would be a Hillary Clinton nomination. Obama would lose the nomination to party insiders although he would be the delegate leader. If this scenario plays out, this is where mayor Bloomberg is rumored to step in.

The word on the street is that the Obama campaign and New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg have already met and devised an incredible plan if Clinton wins the nominee. Mayor Bloomberg would give nearly $1 billion to Obama’s campaign after which Obama would bolt from the Democratic Party and run as an Independent candidate with king-maker Bloomberg as his running mate.

It has long been rumored that mayor Bloomberg was eyeing a third party run at the presidency, so is this so far-fetched? Reports were that he was willing to spend $1 billion dollars on his own campaign for president, this seems like a scenario with a much better chance at having a third party candidate win to me. With Bloomberg funding a third party candidate, and a candidate who if the scenario that would lead to this plays out, would be a more popular candidate with the voters than either Clinton or McCain it could throw this whole election into turmoil. Coupled with the fact that Clinton receiving the nomination over Obama by party insiders would possibly disenfranchise the entire black vote with the Democrat party, who would then turn to the Independent ticket in rebellion, this could end the Democrat party as we know it.

Go for it, I say. Obama is not a real Democrat anyway and has no interest in upholding the ideas of the Democratic Parthy - like social justice, fairness, equality - does he know what these words mean? And he is so tied to MONEY and the ELITE it's sickening. Has his hands in with all the rich people. And disgustingly presents himself as the "non-establishment" candidate. Huh, what a JOKE!

Not really! I think I know exactly what he was talking about. He needs Bloomburgs help with Jewish community. He's in deep trouble Jewish-Americans right now and desperately needs a prominent Jewish American to support him. Enter Bloomburg.

Hell, I wish Hillary would leave this undemocratic party and either go Indie or start her own. Let him stay with the likes of Pelosi, Dean, Kerry, and Kennedy. The ultra left wing of the party rules anymore.

I think that's a great idea. They have enough support to do it. Hillary and Bill with the likes of Bloomberg and other independents could help create that. It's an idea that should be tested.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obama did anything that was self-serving. *shrug*

I think Republicans were successful this year in bringing the most moderate guy they have. The conservatives didn't like him but that's what makes McCain appealing to centrists and blue-collar dems. The Democrats on the hand have so far failed by helping an extreme left candidate like Obama.

It's unfortunate that the extreme left doesn't get it. The last two Dem presidents were Southern Governors. They need to get a hint. Only moderate Dems can win a national election. And Obama is probably the furthest left I've ever heard of... Even Dukakis was more centrist.

I tell you : If Hillary goes for Independent candidancy lots of people (i for one) will support her. because we clearly see her credentials and her commitment above the DEM party. And many people will see her as a VIABLE CANDIDATE.

But if BHO goes independent (and i REALLY hope so), he will be like an idiot (not that hes not one now) sticking out like a sore thumb. And he will be thrashed left-right-center.

Actually, I think Hillary is the real democrat and upholds democratic principles. So, I would love to see them in different parties, but Nader/Gonzales are already on the independent ticket. Anyway, I don't think that Obama fits independent or democratic principles. I think he should think about running under a party that fits more of his values, i.e. communism, fascism, terrorism. Any of those would probably fit better, even Marxism seems too mild.

The original email seems to be from 6 weeks ago, and based on a rumor spread by Rush?
I'll go out on a limb and say they're not planning a third party candidacy.
Bloomberg is a centrist/pragmatist whose political positions do not align with any of the candidates, and for that reason, he most definitely WAS considering running as a third party candidate HIMSELF. But that was a while ago.
Google Unity08 and Bloomberg if yr interested.

Bloomberg is very much opposed to McCain's positions on foreign policy, tax policy, civil liberties, and pretty much everything else. So in the general, he will use his position and influence to make sure McCain isn't elected.

Bloomberg was chomping at bit way before Obama arrived there to give his speech last week. He's is definately wanting to be VP I suspect. Money follows Obama like a wicked shadow. I wouldn't put it past them to try anything:mad: Money talks and bulls**t walks:(
