To Hillary

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may tread me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I'll rise.

From Hillary's Concession Speech:

"I want to say to my supporters: When you hear people saying or think to yourself, 'If only,' or, 'What if,' I say, please, don't go there. Every moment wasted looking back keeps us from moving forward," she said, her voice echoing throughout the cavernous room, just blocks from the White House. "

Life is too short, time is too precious, and the stakes are too high to dwell on what might have been."

"You can be so proud that, from now on, it will be unremarkable for a woman to win primary state victories, unremarkable to have a woman in a close race to be our nominee, unremarkable to think that a woman can be the President of the United States. And that is truly remarkable."

New Beginning

Now begins a new journey for Hillary, Secretary of State for the United States of America. She will journey well and true and make those of us who love and support her as proud as we can possibly be. So this is not goodbye but a new beginning for not what should have been (for we know this well) but for what WILL be.

Hillary, make us proud! We know you will!

You opened your arms to us.............Hillary
You promised us the world................Hillary
We opened our hearts to you............Hillary
And you did not let us down...........Dear Hillary

Hillary knows going forward means dealing with less than honorable people. IMO, she chose SOS with full knowledge of the light and dark of the human condition. She has more guts than anybody I know.

Rise, Hillary. Rise.

Hillary's words say it best....

http://womenshistory.about.com/cs/quotes/a/qu_h_clinton.htm

• Eleanor Roosevelt understood that every one of us every day has choices to make about the kind of person we are and what we wish to become. You can decide to be someone who brings people together, or you can fall prey to those who wish to divide us. You can be someone who educates yourself, or you can believe that being negative is clever and being cynical is fashionable. You have a choice.

• When I am talking about "It Takes a Village", I'm obviously not talking just about or even primarily about geographical villages any longer, but about the network of relationships and values that do connect us and binds us together.

• There cannot be true democracy unless women's voices are heard. There cannot be true democracy unless women are given the opportunity to take responsibility for their own lives. There cannot be true democracy unless all citizens are able to participate fully in the lives of their country. [July 11, 1997]

• I'm sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you're not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we're Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration.

• Our lives are a mixture of different roles. Most of us are doing the best we can to find whatever the right balance is . . . For me, that balance is family, work, and service.

• We are Americans, We have the right to participate and debate any administration.

thebword, Thanks for a great post. Yes, safeguarding democracy (what's left of it) will take a village.. as in network of relationships.

Happy New Year to all of you.
