I think things are going well and the forum will slowly rebuild. For myself, I find that I post much more thought provoking and deeper analyzed posts here than when I post on other forums. I think the reason is there is no agenda (beyond supporting Hillary, of course); it is just political discussion and that suits me just fine.
I didn't appreciate reading that someone should "shut the **** up" last week. I feel that violates the standards of respect and civility we've always had here.

I think things are going okay, I just wish there were more posts in the threads.

^ This is good feedback as that is how I would like the forum to function - as a place for broad-based discussion about all political issues. Quality is better than quantity!

^ Yes I agree that kind of response is not welcome or constructive. It's unfortunate that occasionaly a small minority of people "lose it" when others don't share their view. It's possible to harshly critique someone's view/perspective without resorting to insults or swearing.

I agree! I think there are some good threads being started, but obviously with the reduced traffic there are fewer contributions to each thread. It is a reality that much of the forum's previous usership/traffic has moved elsewhere, so HCF must to a large extent start over with building a new base of users/followers. The key to building up traffic again is distributing the forum's link (& links to threads) across the Internet.

I agree with all the above feedback about the traffic and tone of the discussions. It's important that we must show maturity when expressing opinions and disagreements. Fortunatly, we are fine 99% of the time.
For those of us who love this forum, we can help it grow by contributing in the participation. It's a rare gem in the net world. So let's keep it going.

The more that people participate in discussions, the more attractive the forum comes to those who pass by and think about joining in.
I think that everything is going well - a variety of informative and interesting threads, thoughtful comments and interaction. I think there's every sign that it's headed in the right direction and you can be proud, Murray! It gets better every day!:)

I also think things are going just fine. I know you're used to many more posters and a ton of posts, but time and patience is probably the key to building the kind of forum/discussions you're looking for.

I think it is going well and many thought-provoking threads are being posted now. It will take time to get back to its previous glory.....LOL

Actually, I think many of us have still not realized that the forum is active again! I just happened to click on the link today, almost by accident, and was delighted to see HCF reopened.
Just give it time, more and more long-time users will realize this. And of course there'll be new ones. During the time that we couldn't post here, I checked out a few other political forums and saw just how little traffic those had... it's very active here in comparison!
DeLana :)

Yes, I need to adjust to the lower level of activity following the exodus after Nov 4 and the disruption caused by 2 temporary closures...

I received the email that you were open this morning and I thank you for that. This was my favorite forum. I'm hesitant because you have closed twice-

The only minor quibble I might have is that in some threads, disruption seems to becoming more and more frequent (and in lieu of dialogue)....but I suppose that is to be expected to some extent (if unfortunate) anytime you get a lot of varying opinions from lots of different people. Overall though, things are still pretty good.
Keep up the good work, CGP. You deserve a lot of credit for your commitment to this board.

I know this is an archived thread but not sure where to put this comment.
I think I need to take a break from here for a bit. The dialogue has simply gotten to the point where no one is listening and there is no self moderation in tone or speech.
When a thread title is posted; can't you already think of exactly what other posters will write? Is anybody learning anything from anyone anymore? Does anyone even want to?
I came because I was learning from folks and had great dialog. I am not sure that is happening anymore.
Hopefully, things change.
Thanks CGP. This site has (and hopefully will) taught me a lot, most of all that Hillary was not the bad person I thought she was.

I think people's intentions for participating in a forum such as this are many and varied. There is no one reason why people log in and post comments.
It's still possible to learn new things even when discussing matters with others who have very fixed views and attitudes. For one, you very quickly become aware of what your own views and attitudes are which can be a learning experience in itself.
I also think a lot of people actually do self-moderate their tone/speech. I know I certainly do. At times I feel like lashing out and speaking trash but I hold back for the most part, choosing instead to communicate in a more tame/constructive manner. There are many others who choose a similar approach I am sure.
At the end of the day, it's a political discussion forum which allows participants from all quarters so you have to expect a degree of tension, conflict and disagreement - it's unavoidable. In comparison with some other more far left and far right forums, this really is a very mild place indeed!
You contribute well to discussions and your presence is valued!
Keep up the good work, CGP. You deserve a lot of credit for your commitment to this board.
A forum without members is useless so ultimately it's the people who participate that make CommonGroundPolitics.net an interesting place!
Also, Suzan and Laura have done great work as mods in recent months.
But thanks for your positive feedback.

I found this forum last week through a google search on birther's and ran across TheTaoOfBill's thread. You are getting out there it seems. I liked the place enough to stick around and register.

Great! I am always interested to know how people found the forum.
I also found it through a Google search last year and I'm still fine here. ;)
I like the fact that you are opening the door (polls in the Main Room) to input from everyone in regards to the anticipated participation/membership levels. Not that votes need be the determining factor, but hopefully, they will help in the decisions you are making. It's democratic, but you're the Pres, CGP! :D

I always like to do the polls as it gives me a better idea of what the people who use the forum think about certain issues. So I definitely use the feedback I get from them. A good recent example was the poll about the editing feature - the overall response to that question was very clear.

Yes, you've become a link to Germany!
Your input in that regard definitely got me thinking about starting the second main room for world issues.

There are so many tags here that it is hard to use them, Suggestion have all tags authorized by the Mods before they can be used. IMO this would cut down the number of tags to the point where they could actually be useful.

I mean really
I see what you are saying, but I think that would be too restrictive - requiring that only "approved" tags be used. That's just another mod task no-one has time for! And for "searching" purposes it's best not to limit the range of tags people can apply to a thread.
What is possible is to control the number of tags that appear in the tag "cloud". In the "cloud" you posted, the top 500 tags were featured. I have reduced that to the top 100 tags and it looks like this:
9/11 2012 abortion acorn afghanistan africa associated press australia barack obama bill clinton bipartisanship california china climate change cnn report card common ground politics commongroundpolitics.net congress conservatives crime democratic party democrats dick cheney discrimination don't ask don't tell economic recovery economy florida foreign policy forum poll fox news gates-crowley incident gay marriage gay rights george w. bush germany glenn beck global warming gop gwot health care health care bill health care public option health care reform health care system health insurance hillary's travels hillary clinton hillaryclintonforum.net homophobia immigration india indonesia international news iran iraq israel kirsten gillibrand lgbt liberals medicare mexico michael jackson michelle obama middle east military music nancy pelosi nato new york new york city north korea nuclear weapons obama obama administration pakistan palin prop 8 proposition 8 racism recession republican party republicans russia same-sex marriage sarah palin secretary of state sexism stimulus bill supreme court taxes terrorism twitter unemployment usa violence against women war women's rights women in politics women in society
And then in the actual tag cloud (see here (http://www.commongroundpolitics.net/discussion/tags.php)) the most used tags appear in bigger font.
(but I will certainly put some time into deleting tags which are not spelled correctly or are otherwise wrong).

I love the civility of Common Ground Politics, as well as the brilliance of the super moderator:).
On a lighter note, many people on this blog are animal lovers. Do you think that you can make a thread for people to discuss their animals. I swear that I am NOT a crazy animal person, but I have questions about my puppy.
