View Full Version : FORUM VOTING: 26 x VP Options for Hillary - Phase 1 of Forum Voting!

CGP
04-01-2008, 09:17 PM
YOU CAN VOTE FOR MULTIPLE CANDIDATES
(But you only get one chance to do so!)

In this first phase of voting for VP options for Hillary, you can select as many candidates as you like - but you can only do so on one occasion!

So if you think 10 on the list could be viable VPs, select 10. If you think only 5 are viable, vote for those 5.

Phase 2 would involve culling this list to about ten and than we would have another round of voting to see who would go forward to Phase 3!

If there are any on this list who should be removed due to formal ineligibility, let me know and I will remove.

Sorry Murray, but I feel quite ignorant, as I don't even know who some of these folks are. Ralph Nader....can he actually be on a democratic ticket ?

I voted Wesley Clark, as a strong "supportive" VP, military and all. But, we do have to have someone that can take over, and yet, without constantly struggling with Hillary; no over-shadower.....

I am interested in what some of the other forum members opinions are !

I think she really needs to pick an AA. I hate to say it, but I think we will have problems if we don't. But maybe I'm just worrisome! As much as I like Nutter, I think Harold Ford is a good choice. He is very smart. I heard Evan B. speak at a MI dem event and nobody was paying attention to him. He may be a great guy, but he totally lost the whole room. just my 2 cents worth.

I meant to put Obama in the list but I forgot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe my brain was telling me something - don't even consider him!

And can't add it now the poll has started....

I was interested to see how he fared....

Oh well, maybe he can be added to Phase 2 given he is the other nominee....

i choose Michael Nutter. :)

I meant to put Obama in the list but I forgot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He definitely would NOT have gotten my vote.

I voted for:

Ed Rendell
Evan Bayh
Harold Ford Jr.
Wes Clark

Harold Ford Jr. would be my first pick. I would hesitate to put another female on the ticket. Having Ford as VP might also alleviate some hurt feelings among African Americans who supported Obama. Finally, he could help to carry some Southern states.

I was dissappointed that Diane Watson was not on the list. She is the congresswoman from California that said she would not waver in her support of Hillary even at the rick of losing her seat in congress.

She wasn't mentioned in the previous 2 threads about potential nominees so she wasn't included. :( (unless I missed reading her name!)

Are we speaking ideally or realistically?

Realistically you can't have two women on the ticket. I hope that doesn't offend anyone but we may not even get one woman on the ticket.

So I stuck with only men with Wesley Clark being my first choice. He was actually my choice for the nomination in 2004, which is when I left the Dem Party (Kerry? Yuck.)

I didn't tick his box because I didn't know who he was. He is currently at Merrill Lynch and not in Congress - does that matter? And it doesn't look as though he is supporting anybody but Bill Clinton seems to have had very good words for him which Ford has in that short bio thingummy. So... I would probably add him to the list.

My list was:
Bill Nelsen
Ed Rendell
Evan Bayh
Joe Scarborough (just because lol!)
Michael Nutter
Ted Strickland
Wesley Clarke

Didn't put Edwards as I feel he should have come out for Hillary by now and especially as her Universal plan is almost the same as his and Obama's is not. I think he should have a place in her cabinet though...Attorney General.

I heard him the other day that he has not endorsed anyone because he is a super delegate.
He's at Merril Lynch cause he lost his run for senator in TN. He was a great congressman. Very well spoken, smart and a real leader. Now, I don't know if he's getting pressure from obama supporters, but for now he hasn't endorsed.

I love this article 'cause I hope the college kids have it right! They've been wrong only once in past 60 years!

Democratic Nominee "Picked" at VA. College
Jan. 27, 2008

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...012602119.html

Excerpts:

"It's the 100th year of Washington and Lee University's mock convention, an event that has featured elephants, speakers such as Harry S. Truman and Jimmy Carter, more than a few epic parties and one dramatic death.
The convention predicts the nominee of the party not currently in the White House. It is meticulously researched and not infrequently giddy. And it has a remarkable record for accurate picks -- only once in 60 years has it chosen the wrong nominee.

The delegates gathered yesterday to make this year's call -- a toughie. Nothing like decades of pressure and having a national spotlight on you.

The leaders of the student-run convention, who worked on it for 2 1/2 years, have had their share of sleepless nights. Not only are there 100 years of tradition to uphold and the sense that this year's election will make history, but the field is more unpredictable than it has been for years...

A gym at the school was transformed into a convention hall with state signs on poles, a forest of TV cameras, huge video screens and about 3,000 people, many waving "Hillary" and "Obama" signs. Student delegates wore jackets and ties or dresses and heels and, not infrequently, boater hats.

This year's lineup of speakers was impressive: Jackson, Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, Sen. James Webb (Va.), former senators Max Cleland (Ga.) and Carol Moseley Braun (Ill.), former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, rising Democratic star Harold Ford Jr. and Charlie Wilson, the former representative whose support of Afghan rebels fighting Soviet troops in the 1980s is the subject of a current film.

After speeches yesterday, the roll-call vote was held.

"The great state of California, where my governor could beat up your governor, casts 260 votes for Senator Clinton."

Someone shouted, "Clinton!" Then someone else yelled, "That's my lady!" drawing laughter from the mostly Republican students.

When the final vote was cast, red, white and blue balloons dropped to the floor, and the crowd chanted, "Hillary! Hillary!"

Then Bill Clinton called, his raspy voice echoing through speakers as he thanked voters for nominating his wife.

In the end, the tally was not that close. With 2,025 votes needed for the nomination, Clinton had the backing of 2,117 delegates; Obama, 1,642; former senator John Edwards (N.C.), 288; former senator Mike Gravel (Alaska), 2.

After the vote and a much less serious selection of Ford as vice president -- he was many students' favorite speaker -- people began clearing away. The sounds of hundreds of balloons popping filled the hall...

In the opinion of the mock convention, it's not going to be over on Super Tuesday," said Southern regional chairman William Waller, a senior from Georgia. "It's going to be months."

Harold Ford will need an image overhaul, Sheila is really tough, I think that a lot of people would like her, because she is likeable. Stephanie Tubb Jones the smile is kinda big, but I like her work on health care.

It's not a good idea to choose a woman, imho. There are already people against the idea of a female president, this will just further alienate those voters with a double bill of woman...

I chose Wesley Clark, Ted Strickland, Ralph Nadar and Ted Rendell...

But I think Hillary should really consider Obama. There's a strong chance that the AA, youth and maybe even the up-scale voters part of his 'movement' will not vote for her.

Obama scoffed at the idea of being Hillary's VP - she's done her duty and doesn't need to offer him the role a second time round if she indeed wins. His reponse was so arrogant and disrespectful that he effectively ruled himself out as a possibility.

Funny you should mention that. I thought that when she made that announcement, there was a possibility she would put him on her ticket. I thought, I wonder why she said that..to get people to see her as the frontrunner? At that time there was no way people would believe she could win the nom. So I started thinking again ...HMMMM then it hit me. She knew he would be his rude arrogant self and be "dismisive" of her like always, which would open the door for her to start wailing on him as he "Poo-Pooed her offer!! I think she wasn't trying to be presumtious and try to hand him V.P with one hand as she stole Prez. with the other. Like the Media in their infinite wisdom was trying to paint it. She is too smart. I think she did it to break the idea of a combo ticket in the minds of Americans so she could be freer in her fight against him!!! Just a thought!! She's one smart cookie!!

I didn't vote for Harold Ford Jr.
Back when I still watched T.V I saw him on a show (?) as part of the panel, and he said something that made me feel he was Pro-Obama. It was kinda rude against Hillary. I can't remember the comment, but I felt he was for the "King of Change". so I didn't vote for him but I was Pro-Harold before his untoward statement.

Bill Nelson is very popular in the south...He got guts, brains and level headed. Pulled Florida through the last insurance crisis there when Andrew came through. May not be a bad ides since The Florida Gov is highly considered for VP on the republican ticket.

I always like Wes Clark...smart, military, experienced in foreign relations, NATO

Edwards another great choice. His job could be poverty and the domestic agenda. That is right up his alley. He is probably the Poverty Czar that Hillary wants.

Evan Bayh..I remember his father...humm I feel old.

Ford Jr. another good choice... very bright

Why not?

Yes, isn't it a sad reality that the idea of 2 women would be just "too much" for some people to cope with. Sexism is so entrenched in society that people just do not grasp what it really, really means. People just accept that patriarchy is normal and okay. They accept and think it's normal and okay that no woman has EVER been a party leader or president in the USA. Only when the absurdity and injustice of this is truly grasped has someone AWOKEN from ignorance on this matter.

We need one more question Hillary for president.

Well, I think if we did another round of this poll the answers would be very different after the past couple of months!!!
