With the U.S. government taking a majority stake in banks, bossing around the auto industry, and floating the possibility of nationalized healthcare, there have been rumblings in the media that the U.S. is leaning toward socialism.

A new poll suggests that if there's merit to those arguments, many Americans wouldn't mind.

Only a slight majority of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Asked whether capitalism or socialism is a better system, 53% of American adults cited capitalism, 20% said socialism and 27% said they weren't sure.

Republicans - by an 11-to-1 margin - believe capitalism is superior to socialism, the poll found. Democrats are much more closely divided, with 39% preferring capitalism and 30% backing socialism.

Then...

Yes...it should have read "Some American's prefer Socialism" Once again, the Media spins the crap out of it. Nothing...absolutely nothing they say is believable any more.

Only a slight majority of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

In my book, 2 to 1 is a long way from "slight"

Can this paper ever put out an honest article? No wonder their stock is around $5 a share. Maybe I overstated the price.

I agree that the title misrepresents the stats. Was this a test by the NY Daily News to see if people were reading their articles ... or did they just screw up?

Are you guys kidding me? 20% is a huge number for America. And 53% supporting capitalism is incredibly low! If this poll is accurate then America is definitely going through a major economic change. People are starting to lose faith in capitalism. I honestly can't say I blame them. I like something in between capitalism and socialism. Social capitalism if you will.

Are you kidding me? American citizens have the attention span of a fruit fly that turns on a dime according to current conditions. A large majority were for the invasion of Iraq. 1 week later it was a quagmire. A few weeks later, it was the greatest military campaign ever witnessed. Then it was a lost cause. The surge worked, but it didn't, wait it did. Petreaus was Betray us, no wait, he was the perfect choice. Etc, etc. The only thing polls prove is that people can be sheep and are waiting for instruction on what to think.

We already have a mix of capitalism and socialism. So, you obviously want even more socialism (shock).

I know we already have capitalism and socialism I like the system we have. But it's recently been moving too far into pure capitalism if you ask me. Not enough regulation.

Funny. The socialism side is what is bankrupting the govt. Well, that and Obama. Now I'm being redundant. :p

I remember a big nationwide poll a few months ago that found
most Americans prefer Inexperienced Presidents to Experienced presidents.

Oh wait, that was the election. :p

LOL! Nice.

I'm so disgusted that even one American would forsake one of our basic principles set up by our founding fathers and paid for with American blood. If 20% of America would like Socialism then 20% of America should move to Europe, Canada, or wherever... I don't care where they go.
