Full post here (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/04/15/americans-give-obama-thumbs-up-on-taxes/).
It's tax deadline day, and activists are holding events nationwide protesting their federal tax burden and the government's spending policy. But are most Americans angry about the taxes they pay?
A national Gallup poll conducted last week finds that 48 percent of Americans say the amount of federal income taxes they pay is about right. That's two points higher than the forty-six percent of those questioned who felt that the taxes they pay were too high. It's also the most positive assessment on taxes that Gallup's measured in six years.
"Most of the movement in the Gallup poll came among people who make less than $75,000 a year," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "A majority of people in that category say their taxes are not too high, and they are the ones that the Obama administration has been targeting with their tax policy and their message on taxes. Maybe that message is being heard."
Meanwhile, Obama Wednesday touted his tax cut for 95 percent of working class Americans, courtesy of his stimulus package that Congress passed and the President signed into law. Obama also said at a White House event that he's working toward "a simpler tax code that rewards work and the pursuit of the American dream."

I must be in that unlucky 5 per cent.

Well, x% off nothing is $0. And it is wrong to say there are tax cuts for 95% of the population. Not all in that 95% receive a cut.

Then they should thank GWB, since this year's taxes (for 2008) are his tax rates. Obama has nothing to do with it.

Line 74 is the reality of being "self-employed". It sucks that you don't get interest on your overpayment, but underpay just a bit and the IRS is not shy with their interest & penalty. See Obama's Form 2210 if you aren't sure what I am talking about.
Page 7 tells me to buy more JP Morgan Chase stock (JPM)
Page 11 (Schedule SE) might be something unfamiliar to the IRS.
Page 16 (Schedule H) was the old cabinet tripping point. So 20th century.
Barack sure put it off quite a long time (actually, people that do their taxes early are the result of having very simplistic income.).

Obama is managing this issue well.
The headline, "Americans give thumbs up to Obama on taxes" is misleading:
...A national Gallup poll conducted last week finds that 48 percent of Americans say the amount of federal income taxes they pay is about right.
More CNN propaganda. It might be warranted if the figure were substantially more than half - and a year from now.

NativeSun, exactly. BHO had nothing to do with 2008 taxes. If anyone watches or listens to CNN obamarag, and believes it, I just feel sorry for them.

Count me in. I bet all those giving the thumbs up do not pay taxes in the first place. CNN is objective as usual :-bd

He still got to itemize? Looking at those values the wonderful AMT should have kicked in. In that case the state and local taxes are thrown out, along with any children duductions (probably not an issue for old Joe).
Anyone over $150K usually is hit by the AMT. And it takes whole set of different calculations.

Well looks like the bad politics of taxes is not sticking to Obama. Anyway you slice it things look good for Obama and how he is perceived by the country and world - - sources aside. I know many would love for Obama to fail but, thank goodness, he seems on his way to success. I'm happy. :D

I'm guessing those are the 48% that pay little to no taxes.

TEA parties were in protest of all the Bush, Obama and Congressional spending that has just recently happened. The taxes to cover all of this spending haven't been happened yet!
Oh and Biden's charitable giving is just rediculous.

Both should have been more 'patriotic' and not itemized.

Alright, it is just waiting to be said. Those aren't thumbs that are up. Thumbs are short and fat, not long and skinny.

This is from Newt Gingrich.
If you're a 50-year old-with a college degree, you will pay approximately $81,000 over your working life just to pay the interest on the debt in the Obama budget.
If you're a 40-year-old, you'll pay $132,000.
And if you're a 20-year-old, just starting out after college, you will pay a whopping $114,000 just to service the interest on the debt created by the Obama budget.
INTEREST on Obama's budget debt. INTEREST!!!!
