Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been cleared of two of the many ethics complaints filed against her.

The Alaska Public Offices Commission found Friday night that she did not violate state election laws by announcing her position on a controversial ballot measure requiring tougher environmental standards for new mines.

Soon after the commission’s finding, an attorney at the state’s Personnel Board announced that she also did not violate state ethics laws by using funds from her political action committee to travel to an a National Right to Life rally in Indiana.

More:

The governor has racked up more than $500,000 in legal fees to defend herself. And she set up a legal defense fund last month to pay her legal bills, though a complaint was quickly filed alleging she created it for personal profit.

Any Alaska citizen can file an ethics complaint as long as it’s detailed in writing and signed under oath – a provision Palin’s defenders are quick to cite as an opening for her critics to score political points against her.

“It’s staggering that the governor has accumulated more than half a million dollars of personal debt defending herself against a flurry of ethics complaints that have yet to substantiate a single infraction,” said her spokesman, Bill McAllister.

“It’s obvious,” he added in a statement, “that these ethics complaints — usually announced with great fanfare, violating the confidentiality provisions of the law — are intended solely for damaging publicity and not for true accountability in government.”

Sarah Palin has been convicted of at least 1 ethics charges. Even if these ones were dropped she's still been found guilty of unethical behavior. That's enough for me.

Kind of reminds me of the Clintons/90's deal... :(:-bdA lot of empty allegations used to score political points and to basically serve as a harrassment tool. People should find better things to do with their time... like post their complaints about Palin on HCF... ;)

For the record, I posted this as an FYI in an attempt at common ground. I added no comment to it one way or the other.

The only thing Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have in common, is they're both women. Sure they're both politicians, but one is good at it and the other one isn't.

The other thing they have in common is being needlessly hounded for political gain. I am neutral on Palin, but not neutral when it comes to this "gang up" tactic.

He already said they were politicians.

I have written Hillary a letter asking which politicians I should support on the federal, state, and local level, as well as the international level, in order to officially be an enlightened poster on Hillary Clinton Forum-- "not associated with or endorsed by Hillary Clinton." As soon as she writes me back, I'll know which views I currently hold that should be modified. I'm so glad that as a Hillary supporter I don't actually have to think for myself!

Oh wait... I think that more accurately describes the supporters of another politician...

Yes, all Obama supporters are Kool-Aid drinking sheep who can't think for themselves.

Is she against the Constitutional banning of same-sex marriage, too?

Also make sure you know which are the correct members to attack and hate on in order to be a member of the cool group posse. For example, it's perfectly acceptable to attack some but not others; it likely has to to with having the correct "views" so once you get the response from Hillary I'm sure you'll be able to adapt correctly.

(I do not support Sarah Palin but I see no reason to condemn EVERYONE that does, there are some from the *ahem* old version of this board that I think support her for the wrong reasons but that definitely doesn't apply to everyone.)

Damn, now I have to write another letter! You're right, though, without clear attack orders I might stray down the wrong path.

Dear Hillary...

In terms of supporting Palin in a certain position, just because she's a woman-- yeah, that's pretty short-sighted. I DO however feel that all women should be defended against unfair misgynist attacks, regardless of whether I support their political positions or not. I feel that Palin has some great strengths and some equally great weaknesses. I don't hate her for her social conservatism, though; I just disagree. I care less about an individual's views and more about how they choose to implement those views in public office.

I don't support Sarah Palin's views, but I'll be damn if I'm going to play this game of destroying her financially because of her views. People are sick in this country! When did it get to the point that you go after someone because you don't like their views? I've seen this with Palin and now Miss California. I'm not liking the direction our country is going in. This is just wrong.

I agree. I will probably live another 40 years. I am not sure I can wait that long. This is far from the country I grew up in.

I agree. Love her or hate her, this is not the way to oppose a political candidate. Until an end to this kind of crap comes, the left doesn't have a leg to stand on to protest anyone else's tactics.

You say the only thing Palin and Clinton have in common is that they are both women, then in the following sentence you say they are both politicians. At the least you should separate your contradictory statements by a few posts.

But seriously, I am by no stretch of the imagination a fan of Palin. But I don't think it's right to have all these obviously overblown claims against her just to screw up her life some more!:-bd

Has it even come close? Ever? It swings one direction to the next, never making a serious attempt for discussion.

The most popular thread by replies is about putting the axe to 5 states.

Definition of bipartisanship and Common Ground are: If you agree with me, then we agree.

:rotfl: The most popular by views BY FAR is a thread in which they want to support Palin as a fellow woman.

As the O crowd would say: You can't make this stuff up.

Now let's go bang some pots and pans. Nothing says respect like that.

After the general election when the idea was being discussed about changing it commongroundpolitics, I thought it had a chance. Then it was shutdown down for a time and when it started back up it seems the people that wanted to seriously discuss political issues had left and have not returned.

Well, the #1 poster of articles has been away for a few days. I think it will pick back up when he returns.

I hope you are correct. The problem is partly with the quality of the articles posted, but mainly with the quality of the discussion that follows and I doubt that will improve with his return.

That has been an issue for a while. There's only so many of us who want to discuss, rather than dictate what everyone should think.

deliberate and systematic destruction of a politician and a woman.

jmo people should be concerned about this on principle. if this stuff is allowed to fly just because enough people don't like the politician enough to be concerned about it, the pool of competent people willing to serve will shrink even further.

Sarah Palin is neither Satan nor is she the greatest thing since sliced bread. but before the destroyers went to work on her, she was governing her state to an over 80% approval rating from the people who know her best. that doesn't happen by accident--Palin was doing a good job for the people of Alaska.

don't like her politics? fine. don't think she'd ever make a good President? that's fine, too. but the systematic and deliberate destruction of her has bigger implications.
