WASHINGTON - For a health food nut, President Barack Obama sure likes his burgers.
Obama made a surprise lunchtime stop at Five Guys Burgers and Fries, a fast-food restaurant in Washington, D.C.
The president ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, jalapeno peppers, and mustard, and placed several other to go orders for his staff. He also ordered a cheeseburger for Brian Williams, the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News. The network is filming a day-in-the-life program, a two-night special airing June 2 and 3, at 9 p.m. ET.
The president snacked on peanuts, and chatted with surprised customers while he waited for his order.
There are "more problems than we thought," Obama told a man who asked him about his first months in office.
After paying at least $80 in cash and a group picture with the Five Guys staff, Obama walked out, carrying two very large brown paper bags.
Early this month, Obama and Vice President Joe Biden took a short motorcade ride from the White House to Virginia and ordered lunch at a small independent restaurant called Ray's Hell Burger. First lady Michelle Obama recently said she snuck out to a Five Guys restaurant without anyone noticing. The chain has some 400 locations throughout the U.S.
Despite their burger runs, the Obamas are big believers in exercise and healthy eating.

Didn't Michelle O sneak out to Five Guys a few months ago? They're sure keeping that joint in business.
Can't say I blame them. As a former DC resident, I can vouch for Five Guys being GOOOOOOD. Too bad I only was able to eat there once. I got horrible stomach pains from all the grease.
But their fries are unbelievable and I wanted to bottle up the hot sauce and take it home.
They have them up here in Philly now. Wonder if the Os have tried Ben's Chili Bowl. Now that's REAL DC.
Love how he carried the bags himself.

This brought to my mind Bill and his love of Mickey D's. Wonder if Obama will get that same spare tire Bill was working on??
Cute story.:p

Are we easily duped or something?
Why am I the only one who sees that this is a cheap photo-op for Obama to show he's a man of the people. He's so obviously trying to copy Bill Cinton.
And his "more problems than we thought" comment is the usual BS. What every president says when he takes office and doesn't deliver on promises.
"Oh there's more problems than we thought..."
Yeah, sure Obama! Keep feeding the public your special brand of BS.

I've never seen another President who relentlessly seeks out gratuitous photo ops.
Maybe you're forgetting the NY incident. That wasn't normal.

Bill Clinton never went to Five Guys. If Obama wanted to copy Bill, he'd go to the McD's that's right next to the White House.
Chill out folks. It's JUST a freaking cheeseburger. For the love of god!

If it's just a cheeseburger, why is it a news story?
Because ANYTHING the President does, regardless of who it is, is a newstory. Why was it a newstory every time Bill Clinton went for a jog? I mean, millions of Americans every day, exercise, and it's not a big deal. But because he was the President, it was a huge deal.
If Barack Obama was just a random guy on the street going into Five Guys, nobody would care.

I have a problem...All we ever heard from Obama was this mantra of "eat better...exercise...stay slim...blah, blah, blah, Arugula." How does eating greasy burgers and fries, smoking (and yes he still does smoke there was a picture of him last week taken at one of those fundraisers scoring a toke behind a wall) translate? It's the old "Don't do as I say...blah, yadee, yadee, blah. The GUY is a cypher...he exists only as his followers see him and really, there is nothing there but a guy who is ill-equipped for the job and in so far over his head, he is using those big old ears as paddles.
So yeah...I think he should lay off burgers for the duration or STFU about all this living healthy crap (and Bill turned into the Pillsbury Dough Boy eating at McAwfuls...) Hypocrisy once again.

Wasn't Bill Clinton always obese?
I think I read he gained nearly 30 pounds while in office. He was never stick thin and I know his wife always said he "never met a barbeque he didn't like." In a hamburger and fries, there is nearly 800 calories and 4 times a days sodium allowance (plus the obligatory Corona to wash it down with...)...it just isn't very healthy. I am fortunate in that the smell of cooking meat makes me want to puke so I have no problem being a vegetarian (besides...as a veterinarian, I felt it was pretty hypocritical to heal with one hand and eat them with the other!) And vegetarian is really not what I would be called...don't eat vegetables, don't like them. Allergic to eggs and wheat and don't like or eat sugar or anything with sugar in it. I will eat one thing, every days for two or three weeks and then I switch to something else so I have THE WORST eating habits in the world. And I smoke like a freight train so I don't give "healthy living" seminars ...

Obese? If you think Bill Clinton was ever "obese" than I'd hate to think what you think of me..lol. He was never obese. He had weight problems and was a bit on the heavy side. But obese isn't the word for it.

That's less about Obama and more about the culture we live in 2009 - we live in a paparazzi (sp?) culture and there is a public demand, to some extent, for these kinds of images. It wouldn't matter who was president in 2009, he/she would be equally required to pose for these kinds of "I'm just like you" pics. It's really not that big of a deal. But I can see that for those who oppose BO 100%, it's yet more material to attack him with.

I still oppose him 100%, but I find stuff like this irrelevant. So the guy likes a good burger, and it's a good photo-op for him. Who cares? That's politics as usual as practiced by all parties. >:/
