Sen. Kerry jokes: ‘Too bad’ Gov. Sarah Palin didn’t go missing
By Rachelle Cohen

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. John Kerry must have been channeling his inner Letterman yesterday.

The Bay State senator was telling a group of business and civic leaders in town at his invitation about the “bizarre’’ tale of how South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford had “disappeared for four days’’ and claimed to be hiking along the Appalachian Trail, but no one was really certain of his whereabouts.

“Too bad,’’ Kerry said, “if a governor had to go missing it couldn’t have been the governor of Alaska. You know, Sarah Palin.’’

The Democratic-centric crowd laughed.

Of course, Kerry couldn’t know that 24-hours later the Sanford story would get even stranger when the Republican governor confessed he had actually been in Argentina over Father’s Day weekend – a long, long way from the Appalachian Trail – and with his paramour, no less.

So if Palin is keeping count of potential GOP presidential rivals, well, another one just bit the dust.

Kerry and David Letterman will just have to cope with that.

So, tell me, why is it that almost eight months after the Presidential Election you Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, Socialists, Fascists, Communists and other lower life forms on the left continue to try and drag Gov. Palin down...are you really all that afraid of her?

Really tacky...but then again, may explain why he LOST his bid for POTUS. Didn't like him in 2004, like him even less nowadays. Nothing but an opportunist. Oh, and he has such brilliant insight into others...just look at his VP choice.

You know how most people who watch FOX News and listen to Rush Limbaugh everyday are scared to death of Barack Obama as their Commander in Chief? I'd be just as scared if Palin was the Commanderette in Chief. Double standard incoming in 5, 4, 3, 2...

I agree. They are scared that she might actually become president and they must think she has a chance or they wouldn't be so busy cutting her down.

...1, 0 Is the use of the word commanderette accepted on this forum? Sounds a little sexist.

Kind of the same for me but in reverse. I never thought that GWB should have been the GOP nominee in 2000. I supported John McCain and even wrote his name on the ballot that November. However, in 2004 I supported Bush because I could not stand John Kerry. I never understood why he wanted to be President (aside from his ego). And it made me laugh this past election when people railed against Sarah Palin as VP choice because there was nothing compelling about John Edwards's resume in 2004. He was a one term Senator (and a mediocre one at best) and he was a trial lawyer. BFD. And since John Kerry is in the Top 5 in Freddie and Fannie campaign contributions, it leads me to believe that this financial and mortgage meltown would also have happened under his watch.

Hilarious, John. Especially since Palin has "gone missing."

She is visiting Alaska National Guard troops (in an undisclosed war zone.)

What is Kerry doing? Yukking it up with potential contributors.

Why?

I think he says this because like myself, he is tired of being inundated with her and her family and their drama and views, day in and day out. No matter if it's the medias fault, or her own. I'm not saying I would be happy if she were to disappear, but maybe try harder to stay out of the public eye a little harder.

I understand this and I'll admit to posting my fair share of Palin stories myself, but as much as people say they don't want to hear about her, those threads always draw lots of comments. I don't know that she can be charged with always being in the public eye. It appears the media is almost as obsessed with her as it is Obama, or Hillary. Anything she does is considered newsworthy.

Yes, her daughter has chosen to go out and actively seek media attention, but as an adult, that is her responsibility; it's not like Palin can tell her what to do.

I have a feeling that Tao's feelings have to do more with contempt for her positions, though he, himself, will have to speak to this. I understand that, too, but her social conservatism while being something I disagree with, just does not warrant the level of personal attacks she has endured, IMO. There's a line there, and too many people have crossed it into the realm of completely inappropriate behavior where she is concerned. By all means, take issue with her positions, but we all know she has gone through insults that were extremely personal in nature. I just don't think it's warranted.

Why do you hate Palin? This goes for anyone else here that hates her. And, yeah, HATE is the word for some of you. What has she done that affects your life? Name some policies. Who do you know that she banned from having an abortion? Name something she didn't take care of that she should have done for the people of Alaska. Did it offend you that she didn't abort her son because he wasn't going to be what you consider perfect? If she gets too much 'press', why do you not blame the MSM for most of it?

You and others here on this forum are as classless as Kerry. Do you want Palin dead? I know most of you classless people would like Fox News to go away, do you also want no rebuttal to Obama's policies? Is that really good for America? I'm not comparing Obama to Hilter, but I am comparing some people/press/politicans to some that was there for Hilter. What don't you understand about hearing BOTH sides is BEST for us?

One more point, on CNN's site yesterday there was a poll where it asked, Do you think parents love beautiful children more? Some said yes.

I don’t hate Palin specifically, I just hate the idea of her having power over government. If McCain won I would probably be holding my breath every morning I turned on the news hoping he didn’t kick the bucket.

Luckily Palin alienates moderates far too much to have a real chance in 2012. I doubt anybody is scared; she's just a really easy target.

A Palin Follow-up...

Sarah Palin Responds to Lurch: (http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/06/sarah-palin-responds-to-crank-john.html) "John Kerry, Why the Long Face?" (Video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RraEDle384&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fgatewaypundit.blogspot.com%2F&feature=player_embedded

Conservatives for Palin (http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/06/video-palin-addressing-troops-in-kosovo.html) have the governor's full speech at Camp Bondsteel.

Here's the transcript:

"Poor guy, Governor of South Carolina disappeared for a few weeks... So then Senator John Kerry makes this joke. I don't know if you saw this, saying, "Shoot with all the governors in the nation to disappear too bad it couldn't have been that governor of Alaska." But, when he said it he looked quite frustrated and looked sad and I just wanted to reach out to the TV and say, "John Kerry, why the long face?"

I don't think she asks to be in the public eye. When people constanly are obsessed with her and bring her up to make jokes about she is automatically in the public eye. And I don't see her appearing on numerous talk shows or anything.

A Palin Follow-up...

Glad you posted the follow up. Saw this on RCP yesterday I believe. There’s been so much going on with Jackson’s and Fawcett’s death and the Iranian protests that this little sound bite didn’t get picked up by the media. In a normal news cycle, they would have had a field day with this.

I was pleasantly surprised by her reaction to his lame wish that she would dissapear. Her response made him look really mean-spirited and her quite diplomatic, dare I say Presidential? No, I would stop just short of that, but I think if she keeps up these kinds of responses to attacks on her, she could manage to find herself politically viable again. Wow, now that’s a thought.

I'm not sure why those who despise her keep verbally attacking her because it's actually counterproductive; it's only serving to keep her image in the media and making people more sympathetic to her.

I'm still at a loss as to why he even said this (aside from the fact that the non-Sec of State is an a$$) in the first place. Why not use Rod Blagojevich as the target since he doesn't want to fade away from the limelight. At least David Letterman has found his soulmate.

Would you like to put some money on that worry? ;) I'm willing to bet a substantial amount that come 2012, McCain will be alive and in good health.

Honestly, I'm kidding about the bet, but I really think the hypothetical fear of McCain dying and Palin being executive is irrational. One, I don't think he'll die-- our lifespan seems to have genetic proponents and his mother is 96. Two, I just don't think Palin is either the idiot or the disaster that the Dems delight in portraying her as.

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) would like to amend that little joke he made earlier this week about Sarah Palin when he said he wished it had been the Alaska governor who had gone missing instead of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.

"Too bad, if a governor had to go missing, it couldn't have been the governor of Alaska. You know, Sarah Palin," Kerry told a group of civic and business leaders on Tuesday, according to the Boston Herald. That, of course, was before he and the rest of us learned Sanford had lost himself in Argentina with his secret mistress.

Conservative women rushed to Palin's defense after the Kerry joke. Ethel Fenig at American Thinker wrote, "Tee hee! Letterman, Kerry -- all afraid of strong, independent women! Kerry should find a job with David Letterman -- who would miss him?"

Kerry's spokeswoman now tells The Sleuth the senator really didn't mean what he said, though his clarification would hardly qualify as an apology.

"We stand corrected, the truth is every Democrat hopes Governor Palin is in the public eye for a long, long time, especially on the 2012 presidential ballot," Kerry spokeswoman Jodi Seth says. "Lately it's been Vice President Cheney that everyone hopes would lose the cameras and go for a long leisurely hike on the Appalachian Trail. And good grief, if anyone thinks John Kerry is afraid of strong, smart women, they sure haven't met his brilliant wife and two independent daughters. It sounds like getting crushed these last two election cycles cost some of these Republicans their sense of humor."

We'll see how funny Palin finds this.

Wow, he just insulted Palin again, threw in Cheney and all the Republicans as well. What a jerk. I SO wish we had term limits. Evidently his wife and daughters don't care for women that are strong that they don't agree with. Or, maybe that was a total lie.
