Without going into a long explanation, I am extremely close to changing the name of the forum (Common Ground Politics) and the web address to either of these:

www.CommonGroundPolitics.net

www.CGPolitics.net

Which do you prefer?

I picked Cg. No particular reason.

The shorter one!

I chose CGPolitics.net because it's shorter. Is there a way that if someone types in CommonGroundPolitics.net it will direct them to CGPolitics.net? I know that some hotel and airline websites do this.

Yes, the long one could be redirected to the short one easily.

And hillaryclintonforum.net would redirect to the new addresss.

I'm assuming just "commonground.net" was already taken?

I like the shorter name, but don't like that it's difficult to tell from the URL what the CG stands for. I mean users here obviously know what it means, but we may be too close to it.

Wondering how that would affect search engine position also.

If Common Ground Politics (the full version) is listed as the full title in the forum name, that should do the trick with search engines.

I'd be fine with either, but I like the full name so there's immedidate identification with this place.

However, is it so long that it would discourage people? Typing time is everything on the Net.

Very descriptive web addresses are always good, but long ones can be unpopular. It's much easier to write the short version.

I like the full name for the same reason. After people visit a few times they will add a bookmark to their browser.

Or better yet make it their home page!

I know, a tech changed everything around and it happened a lot sooner than I was expecting. I popped outside for a moment and returned to a new name without time to give warning!

I did a Sarah Palin!

We're harder to get rid of than that..although getting past the barbed arugula fence, the latte' moats and the portugese water spaniel guard dogs in the Obama re-educations centers was a bit difficult.

It was pretty easy to change the web URL to cgpolitics.net, and to retain all existing links.

So if it turns out that commongroundpolitics.net would be a more useful/descriptive URL, then we can easily change to that...

Let's see how things go...

After just one week, the forum is 6th in google search results for "common ground politics"
