Wow... did they really need to discuss the whole. "Why do blacks like him?"
It would be as me asking, "Why do you white people love Elvis so much!"
Idiot.

I saw this, and he was actually bringing up a comment made by an earlier guest who had worked with Jackson. He had said something like Jackson bridging racial divides, thus helping black people. Then O'Reilly asked him why it was then that Jackson decided to have white children and not black children. Remember, the moms were white, and the "alleged" sperm donors were white. The kids are pretty blond and blue-eyed for being interracial.

It's no better than asking why some black men people prefer white women. Who honestly cares?

Trust me, I'm not defending the man, but O'Reilly didn't originally bring up the subject matter. However, he should have just let it go IMO.

Ya know, there is truly no defending this moron. I got the impression from his facial expression and his tone of voice, that he is actually rather jealous of MJ.
IMHO, OReilly is a douche. And, and ASSHAT!

At least there haven't been any Michael Jackson death conspiracies posted anywhere on the net. I half expected some FAAAAAARRRR left wing.......Folks.... to come up with the theory that he was killed by a conservative assassination squad to take the heat off of the Mark Sanford mess. Thankfully that didn't happen.

No, we actually all got together and decided SP pulled her "I quit" stunt to take the focus off MJ and put it back on her. According to Shannyn Moore she is taking over his concert tour.

I saw this last night and it felt most awkward, he seems as little wow I really don't like the label but racist in his comments. Yes I may agree MJ was just weird (or worse) and all this hero worship is over the top but what color he wanted to be or what color his children are that was always his biz.

O’Reilly Tells African-Americans Whom They Can And Cannot Hold Up As Icons
Fox News host Bill O’Reilly was full of his usual hypocrisy as he went off last night about the death of Michael Jackson. O’Reilly started off on a respectful note, saying, “The family of Michael Jackson honored his memory today in Los Angeles. And I do not, do not wish to intrude on that. They are entitled to grieve any way they want.” However, he then decided to intrude, saying that he was “just about fed up with all the adulation” because it’s “basically grandstanding and pathetic in the extreme.”
O’Reilly was also offended at the “racial component” to the Jackson coverage. “The message is very clear, if you criticize Michael Jackson, you hate black people,” said O’Reilly. He, however, then injected race into the discussion by telling Fox News analyst Marc Lamont Hill that blacks shouldn’t look up to Jackson:
O’REILLY: Okay, then why is he being held up by the African-American community as a pillar of black America when he blanches his skin? [...]
But answer me this, if he is such a black American icon, why did he have his kids with white men?
HILL: That’s a personal matter. That doesn’t make him less black. There’s no blackness meter here. You don’t become less black when you have a white kid.
O’REILLY: You don’t become an African-American icon when you do something like that.
HILL: No, you become an African-American icon for producing the greatest music and being the greatest entertainer ever for being extraordinary humanitarian and for.
O’REILLY: No. You just become an American icon for that, not a black American icon. [...]
HILL: It’s not — oh, he is an American idol — icon. He is quintessentially American, but he’s also undeniably black. You can’t take black from him just because he has white kids.
That’s right — O’Reilly, who has said he is “terrified” about interacting with African-Americans and is amazed that a restaurant “run by blacks” is like “any other restaurant in New York City,” is now dictating whom people of color should hold up as icons.

I saw about 5 minutes of O'Reilly last night and had to shut him off. Bringing up someone's past legal cases on the day of their memorial is not in good taste.

Some senator went on a rant against MJ. Says he was a childmolester, drug abuser, etc.... Several people have called this senator a racist. O'Reilly said he knew that senator, and by no means was he a RACIST. This is what brought up this dialog.
Seems to me, that such too much has been made out of this. In context, O'Reilly wanted to know, that no matter what a celebrity does--he's a hero to millions of fans. But to call someone a racist, because he didn't think MJ shouldn't have gotten all of the news coverage and is looked at as a hero, and bridging the black community... blah blah.
Which then O'Reilly asked the questions. MJ spent most of his time wanting to be WHITE?
I'm perplexed over this, if MJ wanted to be white, does that make him a racist? Racist, racist, racist... I don't care anymore. I don't give a whoot who is who, it just doesn't matter.
O'Reilly stood up for MJ by pointing out that he was NEVER convicted of a childmolestation... But who on this forum would have left their child to stay overnight with MJ, especially after the second case?

Michael Jackson had vitiligo. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitiligo)
It makes you white (or whiter) whether you want to be or not.

Merredith1, a person from ACORN accused O'Reilly of being afraid of black people. You know--the crooked organization that has 17 voting registration indictments?
Whether you hate him or not, at least he isn't hiding behind blind information. If you would have seen that segment and who made that remark from ACORN, you would have been appauled.
I've read in several places that people think Palin said--"I can see Russia from my house." Tina Fey said it not her.
I've been keeping track on ACORN, and Beck and O'Reilly have given so many resources. I know there are people that don't give a hoot about this organization, but they are one of the reasons the poor stay poor.

No he didn't. That's what the buzz all wanted people to believe. He took treatments and also used a bleaching substance. Years ago, they had this information of what he was doing.
And, no, I'd don't care about MJ that much to find you information. Look it up yourself.
Also, vitiligo doesn't turn someone WHITE like they just woke up that way! It turns "spots and bloches", which if you remember--we NEVER saw a blochy MJ.

We never saw him completely naked to my knowledge, and the only parts of his body we ever saw, were his face, his front upper torso and his hands. And pardon me, but you are wrong. My son has an AA friend that has this, and it is following the same path that MJ's apparently did. His dr has told him that at some point he may be almost as light as MJ, and it will completely cover him, with very FEW spots of dark AA appearing skin.
I also saw a close family friend of the Jacksons on MSNBC last week, and she explained his condition completely. Ask any dermatologist, there is nothing on the market to date that would bleach his skin from a dark chocolate brown to a light tone whiter than most Caucasians.

Did you think the single glove on his hand was just a fashion choice?
Actually my theory is he both had the disease and he bleached.
I think as the disease progressed to his body and his face he became so embarrassed by his look (like just about every other feature about him) that he bleached his skin to avoid looking blotchy.

After the memorial, CNN reporter Don Lemon caught Cecily Tyson exiting the Staples Center. According to her, it was NOT a fashion choice. They shared the same designer at the time and were quite close friends. She had went to the shared designer for a gown for some event and he was busy making this glove for MJ. He told her that the vitiligo was creeping down MJ's arm towards that hand and he wanted to somehow cover it, and this is what the two of them had come up with.

I don't think it matters either way. The kids from the sticks that dress up and act like the inner city rappers aren't any less "white". While Bill O is asking a fair question (What makes up our heros and leaders in today's society) he phrases things ignorantly. I think its a fair question from a crappy source with horrific timing.

For me, I just wish everyone would leave the poor man alone already. Wasn't the scorn and gossip enough in life? And besides, he has children old enough to hear about this crap. At least for them, it should just stop.:(
I don't think it should matter what color he was, became, died as. He was a phenomenal entertainer the likes of which I don't think we will ever see again.

When they showed his kids and his daughter spoke, all of the sudden, I saw him in quite a different light. Not just as Michael Jackson, superstar, amazing singer, BAD ASS dancer, and kinda strange dude, but as a daddy that obviously had a close and loving bond with his children. Who, to me at least, all resemble him, especially the little one. He looks to me just like his dad. The older ones look like a mix of MJ and their mother.
Nice way to see it Alces. :)

I would like to just add for fairness, that the commentators on MSNBC's morning show have been saying things just as bad. At least from what I've seen. It's not just a Republican/Democrat thing. The libs on Morning Joe were trashing Jackson this morning, and yesterday. They've been mocking Sheila Jackson Lee for the resolution and agreeing with Pelosi to throw it out.
It's not been pretty and made me uncomfortable. But it's not just FOX, guys.

Again, I apologize if this is common knowledge, but there was a feature in yesterday's Times that acknowledged that Jackson actually suffered from Lupus. May explain a lot about his mental state and his over all deterioration. 30 years ago a diagnosis of Lupus was a clear death sentence, and many still die from it today. Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the body begins attacking itself, via blood clots, siezures, strokes, and rashes. In some cases it starts attacking individual organs, but in severe cases the heart, lungs, kidneys, and even liver can all be affected simultaneously. Regardless, the consensus is that those who have it, no matter the severity of the disease, suffer from chronic pain.

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/09/the-voices-of-lupus/
Here's a snippet of the article:
The death of superstar Michael Jackson has cast the spotlight on a little known autoimmune disease called lupus. In an interview on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann, the wellness guru Dr. Deepak Chopra, a longtime friend of Michael Jackson, disclosed that the singer suffered from lupus.
Lupus affects more women than men, and is more common among blacks and Asians. The inflammation associated with lupus affects everyone differently, attacking skin, joints, kidneys, the heart and lungs. Symptoms, which often flare and subside, can be vague, mysterious and frightening and show up in a variety of forms in different patients. They include, fever, fatigue, joint pain, anxiety and mental confusion. Others symptoms include a butterfly-shaped rash on the face, skin lesions, mouth sores and hair loss.
