View Full Version : COMMON GROUND POLITICS: Why I FINALLY decided to change the name of the forum!

CGP

I think the time was right.

While HC will always remain as the inspiration for this forum, the forum has become more general in focus and I think the new name better reflects this change. The history of the forum (and all the threads/links) remain intact.

And while moments of reaching "common ground" may be infrequent in some of the heated discussions, I think it's still a nice thing to aim for as we discuss political issues from a variety of different viewpoints.

I am really interested to expand the forum and increase its usage. I think a more general name will help with this aim, and help attract an increased range of participants from the left, middle, right and everything in between.

Spread the link!

COMMON GROUND POLITICS: http://www.CommonGroundPolitics.net

(Note that any existeing HCF links out there in the web world will still work 100% as everything is automatically redirecting).

I've got to say, I actually don't mind the name change this time. I know we all had this debate months ago! But unlike then we aren't in a constant battle with one another like right after the election! Remember that special time, guys?!

Murray, as one of the few Obama supporters that posts here I definitely do appreciate this, even though I'd have continued to come here regardless of the name. I lurked on this forum for a loooooong time before I ever started posting, although to be perfectly honest, I didn't lurk an extensive amount because sometimes the anger was just too much to deal with (and I really don't mean that as an insult to anyone here). But I look at this place now, especially compared to a place like hillarysvillage, and while we definitely do NOT always agree, and there are certainly heated arguments (it is politics after all!) it feels like the members of this forum are more open and welcoming. I know many of you don't agree with me on a number of things, but I've never felt like I'd be run off the forum for posting my views, and that's something that I truly do value a whole lot.

It's really difficult to actually discuss politics when there's a lot of hate floating around, and while there's still some of that here (on both sides) it's nowhere near as pervasive as it used to be here or as it still is at hillarysvillage.

Sorry if that sounded rambling or insulting to anyone, I really was just trying to express my gratitude that someone like myself can freely post on this site without a constant fear of verbal beatdowns!

LOL There was once a time for verbal beatdowns... I believe I was in a couple of those.:rotfl:

But I agree this place has done a 180 and it's great!

It makes total sense. I would like the forum to be as neutral a territory as possible, as only then are the most interesting discussions had.

Life is strange. The same night I made my 4000th post on the Hillary Clinton Forum...it no longer is.

The woman I have supported since 1992 is basically erased.

One hell of a 50th b-day present.

Life is strange...and decisions need to be made...once again.

HC will remain all through this forum, thousands upon thousands of posts!

Can't/won't erase that!

Happy 50th! (and 4,000th post!).

Now, about the forum's name change--I had some warning and though I felt a pang (change is hard!), I also felt as if I'd had several months to get used to the new name and embrace what common ground symbolizes and what it could mean to experience and open our minds to points of view other than our own. No one is being asked to change their ideology, their party, their belief system or anything else, just to see if there's any space at all that you might be able to share with another human being who sees the world a little differently than you do, or a lot differently.

I'm excited about it and I have been ever since CGP came up with idea of Common Ground Politics. It's a great goal and one I believe Hillary would heartily approve of. I think she'd be proud that she inspired such a worthy cause and brought together this ragtag bunch of every stripe and political persuasion. I like to think it would be something she would want for the former Hillary Clinton Forum members. She has always been about reaching out to people and touching hearts and minds. This is the woman who got 18 million votes in the primary election and brought together amazing coalitions of support, including most of us, who only know each other because of her.

Okay, enough cheerleading--and I was just kidding about the ragtag bunch, btw. I think we're VERY a classy assemblage.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VH!!! Wow, you're 20 years older than me. :)

I don't know how I feel about the name change. I loved logging in and seeing Hillary's face up there. I guess as long as the rules don't change (Pro Hillary, and neutral everything else), I'm fine. But I really don't want to see this forum take a direction of more anti Hillary people on here just because it's got a new name. Because most of us wouldn't be here had it not been for her.

I have a question though, so now is Hillary's Village able to keep promoting themselves as the real Hillary Clinton Forum? I'd sincerely hope not.

On another note, I'm wondering how my poster rank went back down to #10 when on the list I'm #8. Can somebody fix that?

Well, I'm sure I can answer that. You won't have to change your name! You're still ClintonFan and a Clinton fan. That hasn't changed. And I don't see anything changing around here, except that we're hoping to open it up to more people who want to discuss politics, etc, as well as the possibilities that come with the new name, Common Ground.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean either. There's just no reason why you would have to change your name, especially since Murray already said you wouldn't.
