Hockey hunk-turned-political pundit Levi Johnston doesn't think his baby's grandma Sarah Palin could handle the White House: She can't take the heat.

"She's very smart," Johnston told NBC Monday morning. "But I just don't think she can handle the stress level as governor - I don't think she can handle it as President or vice president."

Johnston, the 19-year-old high school dropout and former fiancé of Palin's daughter Bristol, said on the "Today" show that he wouldn't vote for Palin if she launched a presidential bid.

"If you would have asked that question a while back, I think I would have [voted for her]," Johnston said.

"But after what she has done now, you know, quitting on Alaska, I don't really think she has been the governor she should have for Alaska."

Palin is resigning the governorship later this month, with more than a year remaining on her term.

"I'd do just about anything for her," Johnston said of his infant son's grandmother. "But I really don't think I'd vote for her if she ran for President."

Johnston accused Palin of failing to be upfront with the nation about her abrupt decision to resign. Johnston said he heard the vanquished GOP vice presidential nominee saying money was a primary motive.

"We had tons of offers coming in from everybody out there and just all kinds of ridiculous things," he said. "There's been talk about it would be nice to just take the money and run."

Johnston, who appeared shirtless in a recent magazine photo spread, said there was talk among the Palins about doing a reality show "or just something easier."

A Palin spokeswoman did not respond to a Daily News request for comment.

Are LJ and Briston Palin on speaking terms?

Must be hard to have the father of your child trashing your mother in public like this...

Well supposedly they were. Not sure if that's the case anymore.

First he said it was because of money and her book. Now it's because of stress....

Seems like his story is quite "fluid" shall we say!!

I'm sure the magazines and shows and whatnot are calling him. I seriously doubt he's calling them. Levi Johnston is an innocent bystander as far as I'm concerned. Also, that doesn't necessarily mean I agree with what he's saying.

There's always that handy little, "No comment" option.

LJ is lapping up the attention, that's pretty obvious. And I am sure SP is cringing everytime she hears his name mentioned in the media!

I don't think he's that bright, quite frankly. He reminds me of someone else...

Why is the Today show giving this doofus a forum? The answer starts with an R and the winner gets the Friday night Pizza Party that I won in one of Spang's threads, but never got. :p

Give me an address and a phone number to a pizza place that delivers to your address and you'll get your pizza!

So, should I open the door to the pizza guy?

A virtual pizza party would be fine, really. I have simple tastes--pepperoni and lots of mushrooms, maybe some olives, a sprinkling of spicy sausage, some green peppers and let's see ... what else? Oh, yeah, traditional crust.

Maybe some extra cheese and those hot pepper flakes. I'm making myself hungry!

Yes, but not one sent by you. ;)

I'm not going to deliver it!

No? Okay, send it then, but it won't be as much fun. I was just in the basement, hunting for my McCain/Palin signs.

Just noticed. A couple more posts here and there and I'll have my name on every active thread before I go to bed tonight.

Another milestone!

the title to this comment has more resonance with Levi's interview than the news article.
On speaking terms, CGP asks? Sheesh - he called them "We" not "they". He is still involved, loves Sarah, thinks she smart, sees his son regularly and is ok with Todd too. The comment that Sarah "couldn't take the heat" was buried in equivocation and mixed love.
Watch the interview and see how tepid is this "can't take the heat" comment. Also he said the book offers were "one among many pressures." Oh, he also said that just since she resigned he now thinks he would not vote for her for President - but before that he would have.

As for favorite uneducated blue collar workers, I think Joe the Plumber and Levi possible contestants, with Joe having the edge in height and experience.

LJ has seen his life-potential skyrocket from hockey-kid-drop-out to tween icon/prince of political gossip since breaking up with the Palins [yes, plural]. While he's probably not the most reliable source on the planet, either is the New York Times, so who am I to judge?

I think it was a big mistake for Sarah Palin to do the tit-for-tat via the media with him over the last few months- while he's not a kid, he seems like one and while he may not know better, she should. All it did was keep these stories in the public eye and while I understand a mother may want to protect her "cubs" [as she likes to say] there are ways of doing it that are less damaging and which might not cause her family so much of that negative media attention she likes to WHINE about ;).

I can't help but think what LJ is saying is true because I'm not sure he's really smart enough to make up a coherent, consistent lie.

He's good-looking [not MY type], cleans up well and seems to have a bit of a following- hey, we're talking about him- I see a reality show in his not-too-distant future.

Hey, now....

Yes, its a bit contradictory.

Quite honestly, I don't know what or who to believe - I just wonder if the kid can keep it together enough to form a reliable-sounding lie without it falling apart. I guess we'll find out.

Everyone involved [Sarah and her family and Levi] have their own self-interest to protect, which is understandable. But given that Palin hasn't responded [that I know of] to this particular statement by Levi, he kind of has the advantage in the gossip dept, doesn't he? At this stage, that's really what it is. But that could work against him, too as the days go on. Of course, as I said in my post above, I don't think Palin should respond to him because that just gives the story "legs" and people tend to infer that if someone is taking the time and effort to respond, there could be something to it.

Your new statement is contradictory as well. Damn if you do, damn if you don't. But you still seem to take Levi's word. And, yeah, KIDS do lie, a lot of them lie very well. And, the word 'gossip' does say it all, doesn't it?

Which is why Palin is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. I agree with you that she shouldn't respond to all this gossip and especially to Levi, who doesn't come across as credible, imo. I'd rather she hadn't responded to Letterman, but that was an incredibly crude joke about one of her children, so understandable.

We've discussed in prior threads whether Palin should have taken some cues from Hillary's handling of the press and rise above. I'm one of those who thinks she should have. Let her surrogates do the mud-fighting for her.
