Murray I think its perfect. I have addressed this concern in full on another thread, but you need to make sure that if you are going to focus on the sexism issue (which you should), we need prominent males to assist in being the face of the rally. It can't just look like thousands of angry women. Im sure you are aware of that, but it is vitally important.

I see you will be attending so that's 2 males!!
I agree, a mixed group of females AND males sends a more powerful message.

Feedback about this?
What can others do in conjunction with this protest?? I mean to say,
those of us who do not live near New York City....... can we all send
e-mail to a certain media group, ie. NBC MSNBC to voice this message?
Or, perhaps all network media within an hour or two of this protest.

This is really good. One suggestion, can we get the the place, date and time etc up at the top, right under the heading?
We can also keep it in the body of the flyer, but I found myself searching for info as I was reading.
Also, an advertising maxim is to "tell" the reader exactly what to do. So can we put something like "JOIN THE PROTEST!" in the heading?
What do you think?

Thank WV4Hillary - I just requoted/edited their original statement!
I added in the suggestions above and built on WV4Hillary's original great work!
How about adding "voter oppression" to the title....to factor in the MI/FL bit?
So:

Also, this may be nothing, but should "..media choosing our presidents?" be singular, e.g., "president"? I thought maybe if it was plural, they'd ask for more examples than the instant one. Don't shoot me, I'm a freak when it comes to words...

I am going to ad my two cents here and I ask for everyone to bear with me.
Using the term Sexism is not a good idea. I don't believe it can be taken seriously with that language. I suggest refering to it as Gender Discrimination or Gender Bias. The word sexism is wrong because it does not speak loudly in print as to what it is refering to and can be made quickly into a joke. Descimination is what is really being refered to isn't it. Hillary being cast aside easily by men because she is a woman is gender descimination.

Sexism = gender discrimination
Racism = race discrimination
Why not call it for what it is? Should people also not use the term "racism" to refer to "race discrimination"?
I think the average person has a better knowledge of what "sexism" means than what "gender discrimination" means.
The word "gender" is not part of everyday language...It's more of a formal/academic term in my view.
But "sexism" is a word which is in the popular domain and something which most people have some understanding of.

This sounds really polished!
I was just about to make a suggestion about "sexism," maybe only use it in the second instance.
The word sexism (unreasonably) turns a lot of people off. Kind of like the word feminist. It may discourage male participants.
Since we're mainly talking about sexism in the media, maybe the first line could be Join the Protest against Media Bias and Voter Suppression!
Also, voter oppression is not as widely used as voter suppression
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_suppression
Lastly, maybe put NOT in capitals as in McCain signs absolutely NOT welcome
Just tryin to help
Good luck everybody!
You guys should also plan something FUN to do afterwards :)
Replacing "sexism" with "gender bias or gender discrimination" is MAJOR pandering but if that's what people think is for the best, then so be it...I think it's lame though to do it as it buys into the very form of discrimination that is being criticized! The only people turned off by the word "sexism" are those who engage in it!!!!!
What about this? No use of word "sexism" or "sexist"...

My concern came as I was preparing a video promotion for this and as I was typing out the word I kept getting flashes in my mind of the word being turned on it's head and used against Hillary.
While I agree with Murray that it is an important issue and one that needs to be highlighted it is also a subject that must be handled in a particular way as not to come across as just a minority within a cause. We should attempt to look at ways to get the point across without bringing a negative light to the subject.
I am going to experiament with a few thing s and get right back to you guys.

Thats a remarkable improvement.
Murray,
I understand it feels like pandering, but you don't want the media to have any ammo to take the purpose of the rally and turn it back on us. I think the speakers and the signs and the banners and the message their should definately highlight this point.
Couldnt you just hear Olbermann say something like "I have no problem shes a woman, I have a problem shes a b+++h" or something disgusting like that. It definately needs to keep the sexism message in thier though (after all I think the message will resonate with them the most), I just feel promoting that takes away from the media bias message which is the real purpose

I'd make one last suggestion which is to make smaller fliers to hand out the way everywhere in NYC you get handouts, you know, like 5x8 inches or whatever.
How about:

As this is a true statement.

I completely agree with you Murray!
It is not ok for RR supporting BO or CM or any of them to call Hillary and Geralding "W....es" or minimize "fairness" or let mccain get away with answering the lady who referred to her as B....h, or "go iron my shirts" etc..or for mo? and that news guy to say they are "p......g thier daughter cheslea as she campaigns for them... oh and you all know so many more than this... most people do not understand what SEXISM is and they are uncomfortable with it because "they think it is funny" - it is not funny and what are we afraid of ... someone needs to start addressing it... why not us with such GLARING EXAMPLES for the public to see.... this is for Hillary and it is also for America and all our girls and young women and women and elders and men who know them and all of us who need to never resort to make fun of or belitting anyone because of their sex and end the stereotypes associated accordingly... in the end you will decide what to do, this is what I hope for and what I will also include in my protest in this campaign.

I agree with rene.d - keep it simple, don't be too wordy or too preachy
JOIN THE PROTEST AGAINST MEDIA BIAS AND VOTER SUPPRESSION
We have to stand up. Let the media know how you feel
If we're too strident, could turn people off, this is such a touchy point. I'll share part of an email I received from Catherine Fish who wrote in trading markets a piece on sexism and Hillary that Murray had linked to in the forum.
It is a sad truth that many use "biological differences" as excuses to debase women...and the privileged population (white males) will manipulate any different characteristic to further their own "superiority". It feels like such an endless struggle, but you're right - we can point out when we see it, we can try to garner support to fight it, and we can hope that maybe 2008 will be the year women are finally represented on a national scale.
Keeping that in mind - we want to be as inclusive as possible, not scare away any would be supporters by being too righteous and understand we are dealing with a very sensitive topic.

I don't like the terminology "gender bias."
Gender Bias by definition is SEXISM.
We are dealing with TWO types of bias.
1) Sexism in the Media
2) Bias against Senator Clinton.
TWO Separate issues and Gender Bias is just conflated language for Sexism.
That's my opinion.

The Truth about Hillary is that She Is a Leader
A Commanding Woman Deserves Your Respect
~Allow a woman equal coverage~
* Cover the woman's platform, not her assumed motives *
Do not reduce a woman to her husband
Honor the woman's point of view as well as that of the man
fight-calm-prepared-choaked up: Hillary is all these
Recognize the orientation to the young inherent in all media$$ and $ee that it turn$ its back on the wisdom of the elders. The wisdom of women elders may seem easy to rebuff - but beware ignoring the foundation of love and action
Slow down and see that his health plan is harder on women - because they're the parents who have to buy.
Acknowledge her readiness and clarity and the frequency that her opponent incorporated "everything Senator Clinton just said."
Hillary is here for us, leading and brave, willing and able to do the hardest job in the world. Go, Hillary. The love and action is stronger than a foul press.

Be aware the idea to leave out sexism or gender bias is in the printed and video form. The protest can still have signs that say either sexism or Gender bias.
There can be all kinds of different protest signs used, but the pamplets should be as simple as possible. If this sounds confusing, I am just trying to make sure that the people that are reading and seeing information don't make a judgement call in their minds that would effect the number of people in attendance!

I was thinking they should see and understand their bias rather than just be called biased.
But if it's too complicated - and everything has to be a sound-tidbit for the pundit-heads - I can remove all but the smile from my upper post. :)
I am setting a dedicated web page via this forum address to "house" the flyer that way we can change it easily as needed depending on opinions! I will go for a starting version and we can change!
Bottomline: it does not need to be perfect and we could spend a year "discussing" exact wording. Best just to "get something" out there.
