With no quid pro quo from Russia, Obama surrenders defense of Eastern Europe!

U.S. scraps missile defense plan for Eastern Europe
Top Story: President Barack Obama informed the governments of the Czech Republic and Poland that he was scrapping U.S. plans to construct a U.S. missile shield in Eastern Europe, according to Czech Prime Minister Jan Fischer. Under a deal reached during the Bush administration, the U.S. had planned to construct a radar facility in the Czech Republic and an interceptor base in Poland, a plan that angered Moscow.
The administration has indicated that it will still construct a smaller missile defense system based on ships in the Mediterranean or in Southeastern, Europe. This, it is argued, would more effective at countering the threat of a missile attack from Iran.
The decision has been expected for some time, but could still anger the Czech and Polish governments, who saw the presence of a U.S. facility on their soil as a deterrent against Russia. Moscow is likely to be pleased with the decision, just a week before President Obama is scheduled to meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

I am not in the least bit surprised. All we know how to do anymore is be pushed around by bullies. Considering we should be the biggest on the block and help out those that are our friends we tell them to pound salt.

What a bunch of idiots!!! Let's see...Iran is developing nuclear weapons, Russia is doing absolutely jack squat in trying to stop them, and we're now appeasing the Kremlin by abandoning this program to defend Eastern Europe from such an attack. What the f--k is wrong with these people???

Iran stopped their program in 2003. Read the newsweek article. US-Russian relations are more important than US-Eastern Europe relations for US interests.

That's the way they look at it, mostly for economics. I didn't say I agree.

The NW article is BS. Like they knew about Syria's secret nuclear program. Israel showed the US what was going on. US "intelligence" saw the building in the satellite photo but didn't know what it was. Israel knew because they had men on the ground. Israel then erased it from existence. Why would anyone believe that the US knows more about what's going on in Iran than Israel?
Obama is making a big mistake pulling the missiles out of Europe. You had to know it'd happen. Maybe some defensive missiles will be placed in Israel to keep the X-band radar system company.

We can no longer say it's another boneheaded idea. BHO is doing this all on purpose. I said from the very beginning--he's a coward! A mislead, inexperienced, coward.
I read what Margaret Thatcher had to say, and she is so right regarding the mistrust of America. Our treaties aren't worth the paper they're written on.
Brits have it right "president pantywaist."

Is he a coward or is he purposely inviting aggression? A year ago I would have thought that question was nuts. Not anymore.

We really let Poland and the Czech Republic down. Seriously. These were signed treaties. All in return for appeasing a country which has constantly let us down. How do we try to forge treaties in the future with this track record?

Not mention the only reason Russian-American relations are as screwy as they are is because of Russia, not the United States.
As for Iran, they have not stopped their nuclear program, and don't be surprised if/when Israel goes in and tries to bomb out their facilities. I don't know if Israel has the capability to do this though, I hope so.

Did the administration realize that they made this announcement on the 70th anniversary of the Russian invasion of Poland?

Freakin' unbelievable. This has just utterly shocked me all day today. The 70th bloody anniversary of the invasion of Poland?!?! What the heck was Obama thinking? Was he thinking? Apparently, they don't have any history buffs on-hand (and Joe 'FDR on television' Biden doesn't count). Newt Gingrich was there to point this out on Greta this evening (it must have been the history teacher in him).
And if it was to just 'correct our mistake', we basically just betrayed some of the nearest and dearest of our closest, friendliest allies. Our allies surely didn't think our help against the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany taking over Europe was a mistake. If we had done it right, we wouldn't have given Stalin Eastern Europe in the first place. *THAT* was our mistake. *THIS* is saying that Russia has a free pass to rebuild it's Soviet empire and Iran should just go right ahead with their nuclear program, because we are a bunch of weak-willed, appeasing, Neville Chamberlain-esque pansies who don't care about our allies--and are even willing to stab them in the back with absolutely nothing in return because we don't think they're 'important enough'.
Not to mention it makes it him look totally inept with Putin laughing it up--and not getting anything in return--and the news coinciding with the leak about Iran having nuclear ability. Not to mention the fact that Chávez's closing down of dissenting news stations and bullying the last one left in the entire country was featured on the news today (you know, Putin's buddy). Humiliating day for Obama. It was multiple humiliations on a worldwide scale.
It makes me want to personally apologize to the ex-Soviet Bloc and reassure them that some Americans still believe in what Reagan did for them. Speaking of which, I might have to start looking into my next vacation destinations being in that area. I've been itching to go to Prague because of my love for Amadeus (gorgeous city). I might just have to fit in Ukraine and Poland into the trip along with the Czech Republic (definitely at the top of my list) so that I can support our allies with a little tourism. Well, it will probably be a while with the economic recession. Sigh.

The only relations Russia gives a rat's ass about is the Russia-Iran-Venezula relations.
The US just backed up 90 yards and punted.

You really believe that? Iran hasn't stopped anything. They won't stop their nuclear program till it collapses under (someone else's) explosives.

We're learning more and more about this. It's making money for companies like GE. Remember when Immelt was on the front lawn of the White House explaining to officials that GE will be a world-wide corporation?
Finding out that Immelt (CEO for GE, and adviser to BHO's economic committee), will be meeting with Putin later this month. Now, the IEDs made by Iran, that are killing/killed our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, are using components sold by GE through a 3rd party. This is under investigation, however I don't think it will come to light, considering Feingold's recent attempt to change a provision in the Patriot Act.
These acts are treasoness.

I'm sorry. What was that? They stopped with their program in 2003? Then what's this stuff on the news right now saying that Iran has just disclosed a second nuclear facility? I'm confused now.:atwitsend:

Hopefully A'jad will clarify that in his presser today.
Oh wait...he canceled his press conference?
Go figure.
