Closing arguments are going on right now. I dislike men's organized sports because players (esp. pro) are given "passes" all the time on bad behavior and paid astronomically high salaries. Michael Vick is but one example.
But in this case, as much as I disagree with some of these drills, I think the coach is not responsible for this boy's death. His ex-stepmother testified the boy was not feeling well but went to school and footbal practice anyway.
The coach did give those who didn't want to participate in the drill opportunity to quit (opt out).
He was within the rules and guidelines for the drill (temperature that day, etc.) even if you disagree with the rules to begin with.
And so on.
I would have to vot "not guilty".

I have heard new facts that I would lean with what I know toward not guilty. But this is difficult.

I am too biased to sit on the jury. My son was in a car accident and badly injured his foot and ankle. His football coach determined it wouldn't hurt him to do dead lifts to increase his upper body strength despite the fact that two orthopedic surgeons had sent notes saying absolutely no athletics. He did it and and ended up on cruches for an extra six months. This guy might not have done anything wrong but the first thought that goes through my mind is d*mn football coaches, when will they ever learn to listen.

I'd convict him of negligent homicide, but I wouldn't give him that hard of a sentence. Coaches need to realize that it's just football.

Well he was just found not guilty on both charges. Who one the bet?

Me. But I really don't take any pleasure in it!
Looking at the actual law, the charges and the mitigating circumstances I mentioned in my first post, I don't see how he could have been found guilty.
Would I like to have seen him found guilty? Probably!
I agree that coaches and organized men's/boy's sports is taken much too seriously and goes too far in many instances.
I hope this is a wake-up call for other sports programs and coaches that pushing the envelope is not acceptable and one day the verdict could be the opposite of this one!

Not guilty, but of course none of us ever got to see all of the state's evidence so...

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. Let's say that the football player who died was black. Do you think that the tone of the situation surrounding the trial would be the same? More importantly, if the verdict was the same, do you think that the public reaction would be the same? ......Just putting it out there. Enjoy!

That's why I am withholding my decision because I don't know all the facts presented to the jury and I don't want to second guess them w/o all the facts.

Quit playing the race card.
I'm not playing the race card. I'm just pointing out how others so easily throw that card on the table. The "correct" answer to my questions would be yes and yes if race is not thrown in so easily to the equation *cough* Al Sharpton *cough*. But unfortunately, it is.
