Obama Tells Letterman: I Was Black Before the Election
Posted by Brian Montopoli
Addressing suggestions that recent criticism of his health care reform efforts has been grounded in racism, President Obama this afternoon quipped, "I think it's important to realize that I was actually black before the election."

The comment, which the president made in an afternoon taping of CBS' "The Late Show," promoted laughter from the audenice and this response from host David Letterman: "How long have you been a black man?"

Mr. Obama said the notion that racism is playing a role in the criticism, which has been voiced by former President Jimmy Carter and others, is countered in part by the fact that he was elected in the first place – which, he said, "tells you a lot about where the country's at."

Again I ask myself, is it Obama or his followers that annoy the most?

That's a very good question. I think it may be more in the people he chooses to surround himself with, than the man himself. However, as an administration, that's all part of the package; i.e. some of the measure of a man is who he surrounds himself with.

It's good for him to show a sense of humor. Like the leaked audio of him calling Kanye a jackass, this is actually good for him.

I agree.

I think he is very clever and humorous at times. He certainly is likeable and I'd love to have a conversation with him about socialism, etc. but as president, he is not qualified and his agenda is so far left that it has fallen off the scale!

Addressed the issue and funny at the same time.

I take issue with some of his policies but I cannot help but like the guy.

I am watching this and I feel about Obama the same I feel about Bush....I think both are good men that tried/is trying to do the best they can for the country.

But they both share the same attributes for me personally, I disagree with their policies and they both managed to surround themselves with a cast of "characters" that just aren't doing true service for them.

For Bush, it was Rumsfield, Delay and mainly Cheney, although being fair, I appreciated his stance on gay marriage.

For Obama, it is Holder, Pelosi and Biden.

Interesting note that in both instances, the far-side rhetoric of the Speakers of the House for these presidents contributes mightily to my disagreement with the president's policies.

Yes, good point. It makes me sad now that I think about it.

Really? I thought stating the obvious is what made it a powerful and funny statement.

What is really sad is all those non-racist voters that voted for him, but are now unsure of the direction he is leading the country, are NOW racists.

Obama's supporters, not the man himself, are helping to send race relations back about 30 years.

To put is short sweet and right to the point....IT IS THE POLICIES, STUPID!

Which baffles me because for the most part he's stuck to his guns. His policies are pretty much what he said he would do in the campaign. Give or take a few minor details.

Yeah, I was definitely laughing my *ss off at this exchange.

Obama's one-liner was funny (and probably scripted in case the topic came up), but it was Letterman's quip, "So how long have you been a black man?" that caused me to bust up.

Obama really shines in these off-the-cuff interviews; he's way more effective at influencing people to adopt his point of view when he speaks in this natural, un-telepromptered format.

And while I don't think racism is fueling all of the criticism directed at Obama, I do think some of it is racially motivated. And to be quite frank, it bothers me that Obama, as White America's consummate racial bargainer, is refusing to denounce some of it because it's not politically expedient for him to do so. I would respect him more if he stopped currying Whites' favor and just spoke the truth for once.

Except Carter never said that everyone who opposes Obama is a racist.

And I really doubt that many, if any, of the tea party folks voted for Obama. The most vocal and angriest protesters of Obama are almost certainly folks who voted for someone else (or stayed home) last November.

My take on all of this, he's out there blitzing with TV spots and making jokes on Letterman--and there is a letter from a general asking for 40,000 troops. Does this mean the man that was black before he was voted into commander in chief is voting "present" again.

I don't give a crap about his blackness--I DO CARE ABOUT OUR TROOPS! Why are we there--TOO LOSE? While his ass is out there pushing Obamacare, and he's so afraid of losing the left that supports his BS, he's letting our military hanging out there on a string. Oh, let's not forget the phony carbon BS he's wanting to pass for a greener America! He's a lying fraud! Everything he stands for!

His words are to the effect he's uncomfortable with victory because it embarrassed him to see pictures of the Japanese surrendering in World War II as humiliating. If he's not talking about victory what the hell are we doing, stalemate for the rest of time?

Does anyone see the shallowness of this fraud? Or the fact of all the crap he's trying to sell isn't worth the paper it's written on--except to pad his and all of his cronies pockets?
