(Reuters) - The Obama administration plans to announce on Thursday a suspension of off-shore oil drilling in the Arctic until 2011, an Alaska senator said.
Senator Mark Begich said in a statement that he had been told by the Interior Department that the Obama administration will announce that consideration of any applications for exploratory drilling in the Arctic is suspended until 2011.

Considering the recent spilling incidents, I can agree that temporary suspension of off-shore drilling might be for the best. So long as the price of oil doesn't suffer too much from it, or long-term plans for energy aren't negatively affected. Because permanent suspension is like banning nuclear power plants because of Chernobyl. Suspend it for just enough time to get some better regulation and what not.

We need clean, renewable and unlimited energy souces. I just saw a PBS show about the development of hydrogen as a clean fuel and the possibilities for fusion.
NIF Moves 5.9 Million Degrees Closer To Fusion Power
With the need for a cheap and abundant alternative to fossils fuels more important than ever before, the field of fusion energy is getting hotter. Really, really hot. 6 million degrees hot. Yes, the National Ignition Facility, the Department of Energy's pet fusion project, has finally fired up its 192 lasers and zapped something, moving us one step closer to the day of clean, nearly free, fusion energy.

We must drill in ANWAR. Drilling on land instead of 5000 feet underwater makes it vastly easier to check on and repair equipment, and if there is a leak, it can't spread like it does in water.

Nuclear fusion the Holy Grail of power generation. Don't hold your breath.
