Love him or hate him, you’ve got to admit that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is not afraid to take a stand, speak his mind, or face the heat while doing it.

He served up his latest dish of no-nonsense honesty at a townhall in Rutherford, New Jersey, on Tuesday in defense of his plan to reform the Garden State’s bloated budget through an overhaul of civil service, reform of public pensions, and a constitutional cap on property tax growth.

And he’s taking flak for it......(Snip)

"Unlike the United States of America, the state of New Jersey cannot print money"

Exactly! I heard him say this on a "Ask the Governor" radio show the other day I happened to listen to in the car. He also said "I'm trying to make cuts to get this state out of the hole it's in WITHOUT raising taxes" And I fully support that. Especially the property taxes. I don't own a home here, thank God, but my parents pay 8,000 a year in property taxes. People are moving out of this state in droves because they can't afford to live here anymore. It's completely outrageous. The last thing this state needs is a tax increase and even though these cuts are hard for everyone, I'd rather see that done.

What really impressed me about that call in show was a woman who called in from one of the shore towns asking him about one of the scholarship programs that's being cut back that her son applied for. He said "Did you write me a letter about this? I think I remember reading a letter or a note from you" She said "No, but I called" and he remembered her name and her concern and I just thought that was really impressive considering how much mail and how many calls he gets.

I konw he's a Republican, but I like what Christie is doing and I've said it here before. This state has an 11 billion dollar budget defecit. There's no other way to solve that right now other then doing what he's doing. And he made it clear that he knows there are people behind the cuts and it's not easy for him. But that's his job.

As for the teachers, well, they've held this state hostage for nearly 20 years and have gotten away with everything they've wanted, including not having to pay into their health benefits. That's just not going to fly anymore, and they're just angry because they've been able to bully and manipulate every governor this state has had. And now they can't push over Christie and they're pissed. Too damn bad.
