View Full Version : Compassion Forum (4/13/08): Hillary (and Barack) on CNN at 5pm pacific, 8pm east

This is a "compassion forum" where they are supposed to talk about faith and morals.
I just don't want it to turn into a forum for Obama to excuse himself, over and over.

I bet my head that they will give him a platform to explain himself.

this will be the way Obama gets out of this one. Who are we kidding, its CNN, whatelse are they going to do but give him every chance and softball question to smooth things over. it would not be good for business if their chosen one screwed up.

They will make Hillary go first, so Obama can copy her like a sponge.
Also if Obama goes first it will give her an opportunity to question his answers.
So I bet he will go after Hill, and have the last say. Obots will go ozzie and smoochy after Obama's typical crap speech.

I think it could go the other way around, with Hillary being victorious, even if CNN tries to soft peddle Obama. How is he going to "explain" this one to everyone's satisfaction? What can he say to clarify his excuse? Yeah, I bet they will ask Hillary first, so Obama gets the rebuttal. Still, Hillary will answer back with brilliance. He is soooo bad at speaking off the cuff.
I don't think this is going to sway the country's offense at his remarks. Especially in PA, IN, et. al.
Clearly Obama pushed and pushed for the "idiot" forum.

she's playing the abortion debate perfectly. They asked when does life begin, she says the potential for life begins at conception, she talks about being a methodist and the church's struggle with the contradiction and challenges of sorting the question out, but for her its not only about potential but about the other lives that are affected. After great concern and searching her own mind/heart shes decided the tast should be in the pluralistic life of this country, individuals need to make the decision, anyother way intrusion by the govt authority that it would be difficult to sustain in our open society. Abortion should remain legal but should be safe and rare. Now talking about her history of making it rare and giving woman other choices, fostercare/adoption/reduce teenage pregnancy. personally, she has been in countries with different views..china against one child policy because we need to bear witness against dehumanizing effort to dictate how families wanted to have children, romania and communism..forced to bear as many kids as possible for the betterment of the state..followed by secret police to make sure no birth control, leading up to huge Aids problem

I have to disagree, this is the second time I heard someone say this in this thread -- these types of forums do show how deep and knowledgeable she is. Hillary excels in speaking without notes, speech writers, and teleprompters.

He never went to a catholic school in Indonesia he went to Mosque and an islamic school, another bald face lie, how come they are allowing him to Lie to their faces?

He has a way of talking about God that sounds so sterile and clinical and premeditated. He copies Hillary's answers but without the heart. The difference between their respective deliveries is dramatic.
She was thoughtful and warm and open to the mystery of faith and God.
Really spoke from the heart. Incredibly humble!!
He's explaining his relationship with Wright in terms of community service?
Promiscuity is part of the spread of Aids.

Can somebody fact check what Obama said about why he joined Wright's church?
I heard Obama say he visited Trinity after being asked by preachers why he didn't attend church when he was organizing for them. Obama said he saw the work Trinity was doing for HIV/AIDS and Prison ministries. But eh said twice as far as I remember that the HIV ministry inspired him so he joined Wright's church.
Wright's church did not have a HIV/AIDS ministry when Obama joined them.
For this reason, the Trinity United Church of Christ HIV/AIDS Support Ministry began. On December 5, 1993, Pastor Wright dedicated our ministry with its 31 members. As of 1998, we have over 70 Trinitarians who have taken the required 20 hours of training and dedicated themselves in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
http://www.tucc.org/pastor.htm
Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia in 1983, then worked at Business International Corporation and New York Public Interest Research Group before moving to Chicago in 1985 to take a job as a community organizer.[14][15] He entered Harvard Law School in 1988.[16] In 1990, The New York Times reported his election as the Harvard Law Review's "first black president in its 104 year history."[17] Obama completed his law degree magna cum laude in 1991, then returned to Chicago where he headed a voter registration drive and began writing his first book, Dreams from My Father, published in 1995.
Obama met his future wife, Michelle Robinson, in 1988 when he was employed as a summer associate at the Chicago law firm of Sidley & Austin.[163] Assigned for three months as Obama's adviser at the firm, Robinson joined him at group social functions, but declined his initial offers to date.[164] They began dating later that summer, became engaged in 1991, and were married in October 1992. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama
So Obama was a member before he was married, right (no pun intended)?
So he was a member before there was a HIV/AIDS ministry.
I know FOR A FACT that many black churches were LATE to the call to fight HIV/AIDS. Their homophobia kept them in the dark. I know they were involved in prison ministries. But ...

Murray, smart move on not watching CNN.
Okay, at the end of Hillary's faith conversation, Brown told her to stay on stage as they brought in her opponent. So she had to stand there to his standing ovation and cheers in his Messiah walk down the runway. After he got up on stage, a shake of hands and they go to commercial, so we don't have a chance to see her leave the arena.
At the end of Messiah's faith conversation, they allow him to stay with the crowd, keeping the camera split-screen, the larger portion on him as he clasps people's hands while the pundits drool on and on over on the other screen.

I think we can safely said that Hillary came out even. She didn't hurt her chance and that's pretty much you can hope for in the Hillary lynching forum that CNN staged.
Obama came out better in a sense that it gave his supporters some relief that he had a chance to clear himself. But he wasn't able to cut into Hillary's base.

Hillary is older and churched... . Her entire approach is going to be different and calmer. She doesn't have that liner of "being converted" experience that allot of people just eat up.
So Obama lied. Ithought hesaid he got involved in the church to help his political aspirations.
In all fairness of Rev. Wright...He could have been an early one into the HIV/AIDS outreach. Did Obama mention that in his book?????
Obama trip to working with AIDS in Africa.
When Obama went to S. Africa he blasted the government for their "denial" of the need for medical treatment for HIV patients a day before he had hoped to meet with their president. The meeting needless to say never happened. Mr. I know Foreign Policy better than anyone.
That was after Kenya when he blasted their President and then traveled around and spoke on behalf of Odinga who later claimed they were cousins. This guy really knows local politics and tribal customs in foreign countries. Nothing like being a US Senator and publicly blasting the government and then traveling around the country side with a presidential candidate from another party who manipulated it for everything it was worth. A few points first.
1. Hillary won the coin toss and chose to go first.
2. Though there were different Q askers and phrasing, the root of Q's were the same.
3. Hillary was not asked the "Torture" question. Sexism? Is that just a Guy Q?
4. Both got standing ovations.
5. I believe Hillary got more audience applause response to her answers than Obama.
Performance:
In my opinion Hillary really came across way ahead of Obama. She was prepared, knowledgeable, articulate and hers responses were delivered effortlessly with only a couple of brief pauses.
Obama although articulate at times he appeared to be searching for the right words often looking at the floor. His answers had less depth and detail. Lied about Rev. Wright -saying he was only his pastor (not spiritual adviser, mentor). During response on global warming he injects "By the way I think Gore won." Clinton campaign needs to capitalize on that.

Ok. I'm going out on a limb here. I think it was really done well. And I am in absolute shock at the commentary afterwards. I did not get a sense of Hillary bashing at all. (Although I only watched the first 1/2 hour). As a matter of fact they were saying how well she did in showing the softer side of her in which I totally agree. They also were criticizing BO on not laying the "bitter" thing to rest effectively. Hillary was humanized (imagine that!) and her responses did not sound rehearsed. It was clear that Obama had rehearsed his answers, copied Hillary on some points, stumbled through many other points, and overall was PANDERING for a vote. I do believe that Hillary missed a few key points (like the guy who asked her about medicine for the poor and she mentioned trade and stuff when I really think she should have brought up her health care plan!) BUT I think the reasoning behind it was not to appear like Obama did and bringing out the regular stump speech. It seemed as she really took the theme to heart and showed a very soft and graceful side to her. I think she did well especially when speaking on such a personal matter to anyone.

I watched Hillary, she started putting the spouse to sleep because "She's just so calm" :) We both watched about 5-10 minutes of Obama and convened to the other room so we could be online and listen to him....about 7 more minutes and the spouse went in and turned the channel, he couldn't take it anymore.
[QUOTE=joeysky18;50140]I think we can safely said that Hillary came out even. She didn't hurt her chance and that's pretty much you can hope for in the Hillary lynching forum that CNN staged.
Obama came out better in a sense that it gave his supporters some relief that he had a chance to clear himself. But he wasn't able to cut into Hillary's base.
all in all, the undecided voters will probably remain undecided.
I think that she came out way ahead in the minds of anyone expecting an honest conversation about faith and compassion. Of course, it will probably not be reported that way, especially on CNN, but she was much more interesting to listen to and explained her beliefs in a very personal way. She was open, sincere, and quite compelling. Obama said only things he's said in his over-rated speeches - he didn't really let you in on his deepest self - or maybe that was his deepest self. (Forgive me - I usually try to speak only positively, but it's getting harder and harder by the day!).
The more I hear Hillary talk extemporaneously, the more I am amazed at the depth of this woman. Several months ago, Bill said it best: "She has the best combination of mind and heart of anyone I've ever known" (paraphrased). And it shows, every time she answers questions on the spot. You can tell that she has given a lot of thought to all the serious issues of the day and of her life.
We are so fortunate to have her as a candidate for the presidency. She has so much to offer. I hope that the entire country wakes up to the plain, simple fact that we need her brains, compassion, and experience in the White House. Thanks to the media, people don't know what they don't know - so we have to keep giving it to them, in every way we can - LTE, calls, blogs, signs, writing to delegates and others, donations to the campaign, etc..
All the way with Hillary!

I have to disagree, this is the second time I heard someone say this in this thread -- these types of forums do show how deep and knowledgeable she is. Hillary excels in speaking without notes, speech writers, and teleprompters.
I missed the majority of this, dang it, will have to catch it on rerun.
They're playing the re-run now...well, actually the part with Hillary should be over by now... :(
Anyway, I just wanted to say how much I agree with your sentiment; she DOES excel when answering questions on the spot. This is where she shines and he stammers.

I can't watch any debate because my spouse wants nothing to do with politics (if I didn't have this forum, I'd go quietly bonkers) so I'm glad to read the comments and reviews.
Every time I do get to catch Hillary speaking, I find her composed, articulate and thoughtful. She answers off-the-cuff in a calm and confident manner.
BO, on the other hand, stumbles and stutters and says uh or you know about a thousand times. I, too, can't stand the sight of him so I don't often listen unless he happens to come on a news program and even then I can't stand more than a sentence or two...
If Hillary is not elected, America will have given up a chance to have a compassionate, articulate and smart woman as their leader rather than a bumbling, elitist loser who has to copy her answers. What will he do without her?
She MUST be elected.

.... she DOES excel when answering questions on the spot. This is where she shines and he stammers.
She shines because (a) she owns her words.. they are truly her strongest beliefs (b) they are not rehearsed. She doesnt need to rehearse them nor write them as speeches for her to speak.
He stammers whenever he does not have a prewritten script that he has poured over to speak by-heart. Prepared elocution is more his style. Then, if it is long speech, he needs teleprompters. Because he cannot retain his own words very well... or perhaps they were not his own words..

Fair play I guess --- NOT!
That is what really irked me to no end. Why did they bring him up before Hillary got to acknowledge her applause? Common sense says if you aren't going to have both candidates on the stage at the same time, you finish with one, take a commercial break, THEN introdue the other. This was such a blatant attempt to downplay her own terrific performance tonight. I didn't watch his part. Did they bring Hillary back after his segment?

The difference between their two responses could not have been more different. She simply radiated serenity, calmness and acceptance of what we are given but may rise, through grace to do whatever we can to be there for one another.
He was all about explaining the expediency and political aspects of church, beliefs and the law.
How his religion informs his decisions almost like it is a list of rules and a platform to reach people.
She is a deeply spiritual person. And what I took from this is that she has an inner serenity and guide so that no matter what happens, she will do what comes next, whatever is placed in front of her, as a calling to a purpose to be there for others. She even said that God's grace had less to do with oneself and more to do with one's relationship to others.
She is a beautiful person. I feel like I know her so much better now.
I felt PEACE when she spoke. I love her.
Wow. You worded that beautifully-- I had missed Hillary.
But, was thinking... I know she is rooted in her faith. So... doesn't matter what the pundits say. The folks who vote for Oblama are, demographically, either non-church-goers, or rare-church goers; Hillary's folks poll as church goers.
What she did tonight, folks--no matter what the pundits tell anyone to think-- Hillary represented her faith well. And folks can see that. And it will resonate with them. They can relate. Even folks who don't go often to church but were raised in church as kids, will relate more to Hillary than to Braksa account of Islam and Trinity. Those just aren't mainstream.
So... he can say what he wants about little-town America. He doesn't have to "get" them; they have to "get" him.
He was given a chance to connect, and he talked about his platform.
On religion, he was different than Main Street America.
He may have exotic appeal to Wall Street,
But Hillary will appeal to Main Street.

Did anybody else notice that CNN was showing Obama for 10 minutes after, shaking hands with people and signing autographs?
No sigh from Hillary anywhere interacting with the audience. Almost like she doesn’t exist.
All the attention as usual is dedicated to the golden boy. The easy ride questions, the constant applauding, and the praising. It’s sickening.
I stopped watching CNN a while ago and it seems that things have gotten even worst now. The unfairness of it all it’s just painful.
I don’t think I can ever watch TV the same way as I did before.
It's actually liberating not to have the influences of all the so-called journalist and media in my life. I can only count on my heart and my mind and my own knowledge.
Hillary spoke from the heart. Her sincerity, intelligence, beauty and dept are remarkable.
I love her more and more every day and I hope the American people are smart enough to realize that there is only one true and deserving person to be our 44th president.
It shameful how an honest conversation about faith and compassion got turned into a compassion forum for Barak Obama.

I don't want this to sound cult like,
but with all the hell and stress she goes through, they all go through in this process, she is so deep, thoughtful, intelligent and warm. She is what I want to show my daughter what a real true leader looks like. Her saying, i surround myself with people that often make me feel uncomfortable to help her make decisions is profound. If only Bush had had that.
Nothing cult like at all about what you've said. She is thoughtful and intellegent and throughout this campaign has shown her depth and warmth. Very smart explaining that when making decisions she includes people who challenge her and even make her feel uncomfortable. Intelligent leaders do this. Others (yes, Bush for example) just want yes-people around them. .... Way to go Hillary!!

Absolutely, HIllary went first. She was sterling. I only caught the last part of her Q&A period, but it was wonderful. She never fails to amaze me.
Obama's on now, and the weird thing is this--I was going to turn it off because I'm also at the point where I can't stand to hear a word that comes out of his mouth, but I left it on out of curiosity, but somehow I must have a mental block or a hearing problem. He's talking but I can't hear a word he's saying. I know he's talking. I can actually hear his voice, but none of it is registering, so I'm not going to be any help in reporting on this. Maybe someone else can actually tune in.
He was asked the "bittergate" question right up front. I was trying to follow the answer and that's probably when my brain went into spin cycle. He has that affect on me. He was also asked about Wright, but I was too far gone by then. I don't know what he said. I believe he again tried to say that Wright wasn't really a spiritual mentor.
Oh, and I believe he said his bittergate words were misconstued. Excuse me while I puke.

As always, Senator Clinton was articulate and COMPASSIONATE! She is excellent at speaking "off the cuff" and with such energy and intelligence!
I did not feel Senator Obama did a very good job explaining away his "elitist comments." I also felt he got a bit tripped up on the comment he had made about one of his daughters getting pregnant and it being a "mistake". He tried to turn it around and say that his daughters were six and nine, which of course got a laugh from the audience.
He is just not a very good speaker when it comes to a "conversational style" He does far too much hesitating, pausing and thinking about his next words...he reminds me too much of the way my husband speaks...I just want to grab him by the shoulders and shake him and say...."spit it out will you!":eek:

He just made an out right lie about Wright saying that he was never his spiritual mentor, contray to what he wrote in his own book, and said to the media. He never went to a catholic school in Indonesia he went to Mosque and an islamic school, another bald face lie, how come they are allowing him to Lie to their faces?
PNEVAI--When I first heard the way he stated this, it struck me as incorrect also. If anyone has the script of this telecast, I wish you would check it, because I think the way Obama said it was incorrect..it did not jive with the corrections he had made previously...about Wright being his spiritual advisor, mentor etc.
Also, to answer a question I had seen before, I think I heard CNN say a couple of times earlier that Senator Clinton had "won the toss" and agreed to go first....at least they made it sound like she had a choice....rather than the usual ...of them just starting out debates with giving her the first question!

I think the standing O was for Hillary cause they were standing before they announced Obama. I do agree they let him enter like a rock star which was BS. When he made it to the stage he looked like he was trying to advoid Hillary and she was shacking his hand to be the better person. The things that P.O'ed me was that they asked Hillary 2 gotcha questions "If god is so loving why does he let people suffer" which she replied gracefully "I dont know but I look forward to asking him" and "Does god want you to be president" which again she answered wittingly "I could just say we shall see" The other thing that got me mad was after Obama was done they kept the camera on him on a split screen to show him shaking hands and signing autographs.

During response on global warming he injects "By the way I think Gore won."
I cant be the only one that caught this. There was a short noticeable pause of silence in the whole room after he said this. Like everyone was thinking What?, then he continued with his response.
As we know Gore lost in 2000 because of what happened in Florida. We know then as we do now of the dis-enfranchisement of Florida voters. So if Obama believes Gore in fact "won", then he must be acknowledging that in 2000 all the votes that were valid should have counted. This would then be contrary to his current stance of trying to block Florida results.
It would seem that this flip-flop would be something the Hillary campaign would want to call him, or least have him clarify.
Or am I making to much of this?

And someone said (I only watched about 10 mins. of him until Desperate Housewives came on) he got a standing ovation when he left.
Hillary didn't get to leave on her own. They made her stay to "greet" Obama and she got to slide off the stage while he was being welcomed.

Hillary probably was asked to stay on the stage so that there would be what sounded like applause for Oblama when it was really applause for Hillary! If she had left the stage, the applause wouldn't have been so much for him! Not only does he steal her answers he steals her applause!

I've been on the stage in many competitions. It is considered good manners to let the audience clap for the person on stage before making your entrance.
In fact, if by mistake you come sooner, it is a bit of an embarrassment, and cuts into your confidence.. at least it did to me.
I always respected the person on the stage and the audience.. it was the time they are communicating with each other.

BO just used it to tout his new stump speech and clear up all his messes -I guess they decided they could not give him another special talk time for the "bittergate"... actually we need to call it what it is the race card play he was trying to pull (oh, those folks in PA don't like me much becasue I am so different than them. we don't look the same... yayayaya) and lie about his spiritual mentor Pastor Wright -oh no he is not my spiritual mentor... and then lie about what he was saying to the donors in SF... on and on... and I guess that is what the anal-yst chose to focus on how well he rides the slippery slope of politics and the difference he brings is that no one can catch him...
RISE HILLARY RISE!!!!!

don't You Think When She Wins Pa, In, Ky And Nc, We Will See That Light-heartedness Again. Hell, It Seemed To Me, She Was Criticized At Every Turn...no Matter What She Said Or Did The News Hounds Were Critical. I Love Her Laugh...it Is So Deep And Genuine.....they Even Criticized That! She Was A Lot More Carefree Before Back In The Fall. Now She Has To Mind Every Little Thing She Does And Says!
Dont You Think She Is As Floored As We Are On How This Is All Spinning...i Mean We Have Seen Bush Steal The Election From Gore In 04 As If That Wasnt Enouph And Now This Mess...what Should We Expect Next Campaign Lining Up In Front Of A Firing Squad. This Is The Worst Part Of This Whole Mess The Media And The Elite Controlling Our Lives. Im So Tired Of This But Yet I Cant Disconnect, Waiting For The Messia Media To Throw Me A Crumb..i Am Seriously Thinking Of Disconnecting My Whole Cable Tv. Why Give Them My Money.

Where were the anointed Kingdom Christians in that forum. Hillary and Barack r both in error in their faith. And why were they not picked up for the errors, being not hearing from Lord Jesus Christ, that is a sign of eternal life operating in a person's life, communication with God and yes He does answer back when people listen to Him. And He still tells people His plans etc....
And I am concerned about Barack's lack of understanding in not accepting that USA needs to remain a Christian nation, USA will be in trouble if it doesn't. Also concerned for a lot of christians also in that forum, who were agreeing with the errors, along with the yelling and cheering, they all need praying for.
And there needs to be things operating in Hillary's life, one is connection to Lord Jesus Christ's Kingdom understanding and wisdom, but also His will and faith, for He does share His mind with His people. The trouble Hillary is going to come up against also in the Christian community, is the good ol boys clubs that simply don't believe women should lead. And truth is if all the christians could hear from Lord Jesus Christ they would all turn around and vote for Hillary, she is the one that is meant to be the president, but she needs to hear from God and listen for His voice, and His take on things.
