Mississippi primaries March 11.
Good talking point for Hillary would be “State of Black Union”.
Barak skip it altogether. He had more “important” things to do- campaign.
Hillary went and made a speech. She found time in her busy schedule.

Absolutely. I made a couple of comments below about his very convenient absence from this major event:

I am really proud of Hillary. She is very wise.
By the way, Obama’s speech tonight was so boring. He did look like empty suit.

I hope that Hillary makes a play for Mississippi. It may not be one she can win, but maybe she can offset some of the numbers by actually working hard in the state.
Also, the Black State Of The Union address is a great selling point. But she has to tread lightly with that one!
Concede nothing. Fight for everything!

Arkansas was going to be with HER no matter what because they know her work there and love her!
I don't think we can count it the same as the other places. Mississippi has a LARGE African American population. BUT I think if she hits that state JUST as hard as any other one then she can pick up quite a lot of votes and you never know she might just win it!! He missed the Black state of the union AND she will likely pick up the working people vote there. She needs to fight there and in Wyoming as HARD as anywhere else.

Here is great tool that will send your letter to more than 10 regional newspapres
http://www.democrats.org/page/speakout/letterstoeditors?js=false&zip=39205
You go Democratic Party web-site
Click "Action", choose "Write a letter to editor", than you have to enter zip code. In example above I entered Mississippi zip from Hillary Mississippi state headquarters. You can write letter and send it to many local and national newspapers.

I'm from MS, and just came from preparations for Bill's event in Tupelo. Mississippi is, of course, a very red state. Of the Dems here, a very large number are African American, and it is likely that most of that population will go for Obama. There has been some criticism of him for not giving MS the "face time" that the Clintons have, and he has said he will visit the state smetime before the primary. Obama has been advertising on the radio and television quite a bit. Haven't heard any for Hillary yet, but lots of free publicity about events she and Bill are attending in this state.
Wish us luck down here in the sticks.

Thanks for the heads up. It's an exciting time for Mississippi to be in the spotlight. Here's hoping that a wave might change and Clinton can close in and maybe steal it away.
Keep us updated on what you see and hear. And enjoy Bill...he's an amazing speaker!

Hello My Friends,
My Partner and I are on the mend from our bought with the Flu and will be out this weekend drumming up support for Hillary. It's actually close here in MS according to the first polls HRC 40% BHO 46%. Our big advantage is 12% Undecided. All through our neighborhood I see Hillary signs but not one Obama sign. I think we can keep it close here. Below is something I put on another blog so if anyone wants to cut / paste elsewhere feel free.
I called it:
"Just Words the Comparison"
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
Said by FDR after:
20 years in the NY Senate
7 years as Assistant Sec of the Navy

Nation in the Midst of a great Depression
Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country
Said by JFK after:
Joining the Navy in 1943 and Naval Officeer of the famed PT 109 (We all know that story)
6 years in the US House of Representitives
7 years in the US Senate
1956 almost won VP nod
Yes We can
Said by Barack Obama after:
7 years in Ill. State House
2000 failed bid for seat in the US House of Reps.

I wish I could be there and take my Mom. She no longer drives at night and would love to hear Hillary speak! There's no doubt that MS will be difficult but OB may be taking them for granted. I wish your Mom could see her. Maybe she has friends that could take her. :)

The rally led by Bill last night was wonderful. Did not hear how many were in attendence, but the building was packed. He was soooo well received, and people really responded as he outlined Hillary's solutions for America. Bill's explaination of her health care plan was clear and compelling - and the crowd went wild. Her plan for helping veterans, for improving education received great response from the crowd There was much interest in all of her plans, and people were rivited on Bill the entire night. I noticed only a few African American's in the crowd, wihich is unusual for a Dem event in MS. But those in attendance were clearly fans of Bill and Hillary.
I think the snow that was coming down during the rally was a good omen. Mississippi never gets snow, and certainly not in March. The day before the temperature had been almost 70 degrees. When we came out of the rally, the snow was falling, the ground was white, and cars were covered in snow. It was beautiful. We Mississippians see snow so seldom, we really get excited when it does snow. I'm taking it as a good omen for the campaign.

It'd be a great boast to her campaign and win in Obama's territory. It's 30% black but maybe she can upset him with enough resources and campaigning. Obama proved that he could win in Clinton country - Wisconsin - and now, it's Hillary's turn!

Well, that would be an ideal result. But even a relatively "close" result would be ok. A bigger prize in terms of relevance to demoratic politics and the general election will be PA.

Just wanted to get this out their for all those who are calling Mississippi voters. This is what I have been making sure they are aware of:
Mississippi Voting Rights
Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11th. If they are in line by 7:00 p.m., they will be allowed to vote.
Any registered voter can vote by requesting a Democratic ballot at the polls. (hate this, but thats how it is)
If they were left off the voter list or otherwise prevented from voting by error, they will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot.
No identification is required at the polling place unless they are a first-time voter. If they are a first-time voter who registered by mail and did not provide identification at that time, they should bring a valid photo ID, current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other government document that shows their name and address.
side note: Just thinking outloud here.
This should bring repubs out in droves for BO. The Dems need to fix this process of registering Dem for a day it is ruining the party.
p.s. got this info off BO site hope he don't mind

That is an excellent idea, thousands are still residing in FEMA trailers, some that came from here in Indiana as of today. Reminding them that Bill Clinton and another I choose not to say raised millions for Mississippi after Katrina. Let them know they are not forgotten; we know they need jobs, housing, and a geuine hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The people there should know that someone can see and feel their pain; not just the everyday individual, but the buisness person, the dealer at the casino, the manufactures, retailers, the entire state is still bleeding. Hilary is the Doctor and has the medicine to heal the wounds.

Re: calls to Mississippi - I had a good time calling tonight. MS people are VERY polite, friendly, and many wanted to chat about Hillary. Most were planning to vote for her! I ran into very few Obama supporters or hangups for that matter. I did talk to one very nice, sincere gentleman who told me that while he was considering supporting Hillary, he just wasn't sure a woman should be president. I didn't jump on him in my feminist way, I just talked to him about Hillary, healthcare (his concern), and said though it may be different, don't we all want the best person for the job, no matter what gender? He seemed to agree with that...I hope she gets his vote!
In any case OHB may be leading in the polls, but his supporters weren't answering the phone tonight...or at least when I called.
We'll see what happens tomorrow. Then, next stop Pennsylvania, to send her to Pennsylvania Avenue!!

I live in NJ and have never had to show ID when voting. I give my name and they find it on the log. I've never had the experience of finding a signature in my slot on the log before I got there! If so I don't know what the procedures would be...
Thanks for your efforts. I had some of those types of calls in NJ and I just took the open conversation approach about the pros and cons for each candidate. Got some people thinking based on the real facts not just first impressions.
Great work. Lets hope for a great result tomorrow night. Then on to PA.

That's really amazing about the IDs. Here in Virginia, we have to show our ID and sometimes our voter registration card. They are very carefule about voting in this area of the Commonwealth.
