I am having a hard time lately with the amount of time it takes to navigate the site. Is anyone else?

Yep, it's slow opening up for me, and my internet connection freezes when I try to use links here to other sites. I just started noticing it a day or so ago.

Yup...mine takes forever to open. Too many members at once?

Yep...It is really slow navigating from threads to posts. COuld it be because we are SO POPULAR and too ,amy of us on here at the same time?

Yes I have been having the same problems. It either loads slow or tells me I am not connected to the Internet. I have to close it all out then reopen it. It will go rather smoothly at first then it slows to a snails pace. I just figured it was because there are so many people in the forum, which is a good thing. It does get frustrating but news on Hillary is well worth the wait.

Yup, the side effect of success I guess. And I'm on a high-speed lan connection at work!
The site needs more bandwidth.
yes. i have a suggestion, but i am not sure anyone will like it.
the site is visable to the general public. many obama people are looking.
if the entire site is made to be "members only", it would cut down on the number of people on the site, and lower bandwidth usage.
just require anyone to register to view the site. just a suggestion though. :)

yes I think you are right - today it is very very slow. Could be spamming going on from the Obama people? Is that a possible scenario? Meantime here's somethign for them to read:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/04/obamarezko.html :D
obama people have been trolling around here, copy/pasting things and making comments, on at least one site. i forget the name of the place. but it had a long thread all about this site, copying stuff, making fun, the usual "obama unity".
if this site is "members only", it would stop these people from using up bandwidth, stop them from copy/pasting, and the people genuinly interested simply need register.
but,, i dunno,,
PuppyDogMom
04-08-2008, 07:33 PM
Yup, I'm having the same problem as well, but only with this site. My guess is the same as everyone else's: too many people. But that's a good problem.
A few weeks ago we talked about having to register to view and I think it was decided that we wanted more people to have a chance to read THE TRUTH. However, now that we've grown so much, and we keep growing, it might be time to restrict to registered members.
Just mho...
Me too, it's taking forever to re-load or switch topics!

You've got to look at it this way...people we don't know and whom we'll never give a flying fig about are taking the time to see what we're doing. Personally, I find that flattering. We'd reciprocate, but we've got better things to do.;)

Same here. From the first page, cannot click through to /discussion rather I have to type in the URL and then wait. After each next click, there is a long wait before the page loads.
Today, I see more than 200 users online.. could be the result of people discovering us from the promo given to the PROTEST. Good sign.
I am simply catching up on reading at this stage rather than posting.
Meanwhile, I have always had some problem with the screen locking up.. which is one of the reasons why my comments are posted and then edited and saved in-place rather than edited at one stretch (which I end up loosing, and that happens a lot, and I dont have the patience to redo the thinking to formulate the thoughts and put it all down all over again.. this has happened many times, even as recently as last night). I this think may have something to do with my use of IE. But, if any of the readers have suggestions, kindly p.m. to me. I have a clean Vista system with McAfee, fully defraged each day at least twice! and supposedly 80% hard disc space. At any point, there is Outlook express, excel and two instances of IE running, occasionally more.
You've got to look at it this way...people we don't know and whom we'll never give a flying fig about are taking the time to see what we're doing. Personally, I find that flattering. We'd reciprocate, but we've got better things to do.;)
well, yes, but i was dumb and registered here with my well known name and am now getting "hang up calls" all day and night. :o
but the problem of them coming here is that they are using up the resources legitimate members need.
i would suggest making some sort of welcome page, along with the basics of the site, and let them register. if nothing else, it would ease off the number of people wasting bandwidth so the rest of us can actually get in.

No, only Admin/Murray would know. It maybe that Obama trolls did something to our website? They are vicious and good at destroying other people's property, so I don't feel like couting them out until Murray says so.

well it took me at bit of time to get on tonight -any word as to what is happening? I hope we are not being messed with...especially for all of us who are not wathching as much biased media shows this helps us to find out what is going on... plus we want to be able to stay connect for the prep for demonstration...
another site i belong to had this same problem. it was some sort of bot that was taking bandwidth and crashing the site. it might be that, and anyone "computer savy" could do it.
or, it is just that too many people are trying to access the site, and it crashes. i would hate for that to be the case, that ob people are "hitting in droves" to cause a crash. they seem to enjoy this.
here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5404665&mesg_id=5404665
they were encouraging each other to register and see how long it takes to get banned. we really could do without this nonsense wasting needed space.
I kept getting a database error message as well...good thing it's fixed now *phew*

I don't think it is bandwidth but in the Private Messages area where people are mass mailing private messages. And there is no easy way to delete private messages.

I'm not certain what it is, but I do know that some Obama people are very computer savvy. They must be noticing an increase in our responses to articles and reading what we are saying and doing as a group. Somehow, I can't help but feel they are involved in this computer slowdown, even if only to bring more traffic to slow us down to affect our communcations, networking. This has been a substantial slowdown, all of a sudden. It was not gradual. While an increase in traffic is good, remember Obama people would like nothing better than this website be closed down especialy at this critical time.
We must keep his people off of it. But how?

You can delete the private messages. And I believe the Obama camp are up to something here. Here is their website, they've gone on Hillary's website, posted repeatedly negative posts. Anyone good with computers here? We need to find someone. You know his people don't want us networking, responding to all of their negative hard work against Hillary in the media. They want to stop us. Can we find someone, anyone know someone who's really good with computers?

I know zilch about computers but my DH is a computer whiz. Probs. could be bandwidth, which is the best kind of problem to have and to fix. The other issues can be deliberate. He knows of several ways to infect, overload and crash sites. (not that he does that  he only uses his powers for good, lol)Like Murray, thank goodness we have him!!. Constant guard. getting the server involved in the policing helps, esp. if the site is suddenly getting thousands of hits.
A way to reduce the pms is to convert old ones to text and save off site. make a folder and mark by month or by subject.
So happy thesite is back up and running. I was jonesing there.. had to settle for watching Doberdog.

Sometimes that can be a sign that the website is being tampered with. I've seen sites go down for lengthy periods after this has happened; a rival site, hackers are often to blame. As I said, Obama has a lot of tech savvy people and we need to be prepared - could be a virus out there. We need something that will prevent hackers from getting at this site and infecting or overloading it. Might even be worthwhile hiring someone trustworthy to over see any problems. Trustworthy will be the key, have to make certain they are not somehow tied to Obama. This site is too important, is valuable, carries a lot of power, assistance, and Obama and his people know it. We need to think about this. This is serious.

I agree. There are many ways to mess with a site. I have been on the web since DOS days, (before graphic user interface, GUI) and you CAN attack a sever. There are also ways to up a hit count, (on youtube for instance) to gain notoriety for a video you are promoting. I know all the tricks, but I would never use them (although I have been tempted) against a political rival.

I, too, am having computer problems on the Forum. It took me many attempts just to post this comment. Sometimes, after I log on, I get disconnected; I log on, but can't bring up any threads or I can't log on at all.
I hope this is just a technical glitch, and nothing Obamaniacs are doing to sabotage us!

I couldn't access this website at all yesterday. It's a bit better now. I think it could be that we're getting a lot of traffics, and the database is getting much bigger so we might need to help donate Murray for a better server.
Either that or Murray was testing with some Vbulletin mods that can cause some major slowdown. :D

Need to be careful on here tonight and up to april 22 - lots of activitiy and people here tonight I see. It's great there are more and more Hillary supporters, but I suspect some posters may be lurking who aren't, wanting to see what's up and it's two days to voting day.
The Obama people would like nothing better than to slow our momentum now.
I clicked on the link and received on error message tonight, there's a bit more traffic tonight and it's been slower posting on and off. Maybe nothing - but extra caution doesn't hurt.

That would be great...I don't visit here much because it takes too long to upload everything. Posting is out of the question. Hope it gets fixed soon! :)
So basically the problem is this: the amount of traffic/usage of this forum exceeds what my current host allows, hence the problems with slowness, database errors and automatic log outs. In a way it's a good thing - shows that the forum is getting good usage!! But it's also extremely PAINFUL & ANNOYING!
As such, I am organizing for the forum to be moved to a new host (same web address - nothing changes for members). But there remain some problems with the current host which need to be fixed before undertaking the move. So please be patient. It may be a week or more before this mess is sorted out.
