Question: What are gas prices like in your neck of the woods?
Post your answers below on this Thread.
Mine: $3.42+/gallon
--------------------------------------------------
Article to read:
Hillary Clinton has endorsed the idea of suspending the federal tax on gasoline for the summer months -- in order, hopefully, to pass along at least some of the savings to consumers looking at the prospect of $4-a-gallon gas.
Today, she unveiled more details of her "plan to address soaring prices at the pump. (http://i.usatoday.net/news/mmemmottpdf/clinton-gas-plan-4-28-2008.pdf)" She would, among other things: Pay for the gas tax suspension with a " a windfall profits tax on oil companies;" close "$7.5 billion in oil and gas loopholes" and use the funds to help lower-income families "pay their energy and grocery bills;" and put pressure on OPEC to boost production by filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization against the OPEC members.
As the Associated Press writes, Democrat Barack Obama does not support the "gas tax holiday" and has said the average motorist would not benefit significantly from such a suspension; by some estimates, the federal government would lose about $10 billion in revenue.
"My opponent, Senator Obama, opposes giving consumers a break," Clinton said, campaigning in North Carolina. "I understand the American people need some relief."
My Math:
Hillary will impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies and use the money to temporarily suspend the 18.4 cent per gallon federal gas tax and the 24.4 cent per gallon diesel tax during the upcoming peak summer driving months.
An average car using unleaded gas holds about 14 gallons of gas.
14 gallons x $3.420 (current gas price in my area) = $47.88 to fill up the tank.
14 gallons x $3.236 (current gas price in my area w/o 18.4 cent federal gas tax) = $45.304 to fill up the tank.
Which comes down to about $2.576 in immediate savings per fill up. I fuel up about 4 times per month.
$2.576 (savings) x 4 = $10.304/month x 4 (# of summer months) = $41.216 total savings (thats not bad)
A Truckers Math:
An 18 wheeler does not use gas, it uses diesel, now the tanks can hold anywhere from 60 gallons to 200 gallons each most trucks have a tank on each side so if they are 200 gallon tanks, the 18 wheeler can carry 400 gallons of fuel when full.
400 gallons x $4.190 (current price of Diesel) = $1676.00 to fill up the tanks
400 gallons x $3.946 (current price of Diesel w/o 24.4 cent fed diesel tax) = $1578.40 to fill up the tanks
I'll pretend that a 18 wheeler has to fuel up 4 times a month as well.
$97.6 (savings) x 4 = $390.4/month x 4 (# of summer months) = $1561.60 total savings (for a trucker thats probably not to bad)

Gas in my part of KY (Central) is around $3.49 to $3.59 a gallon. It changes by the hour around here.
We need help with the fuel cost. Everything is going up. My grocery bill use to be between $100 to $120 a week, now it's $120 to $140 per week. I have seen the products I buy go up anywhere from .10 to .15 per item.
For anyone making minimum wage......this has got to be killing them. They mainly work to fill their gas tanks to go to work and then there is little to no money left to pay bills.
This gas thing is getting crazy and completely out of hand.
We NEED Hillary!!!

Obama just does not get it. That 2 or 3 dollars that we would save each time that we fill up could by an extra loaf of bread or some more milk for my household.

$3.79/g for economy in neighborhood gas station (It used to be $0.78/g 25 yrs ago).
We have stopped using 2nd car. We write down all trips and streamline. We carpool for kid's music class, buy bulk, go to multiple destinations one after the other.
We will buy high fuel econ car after our current much used one dies out or may just donate it this year and buy fuel eff car.
We live in freeze zone (snows 5+ months) and we are still heating the house. I added extra thick drapes to insulate the windows last year and left the house temp at 62 most days except in the evenings at 68. Still, our heating cost was 33%-40% higher this winter than last winter, with high bill ~$500+/month most heating months. It is just terrible.
Last year I priced solar panels. Bureaucracy and cost of installation dissuaded me. Due to layout of the house, the engineer said he recommended against it and once he gives that recommendation, you can no longer buy with any rebates!

I am on a very low fixed income. I can only budget ten dollars a month for gas. My car gets 35 mpg. And it is outside collecting dust. I cannot buy gas at all now. I simply do not know what to do. :(

Yesterday I read where it is predicted that in the next 8 weeks, gas will
go up another 40 cents. That will be $4.40. I won't be going nowhere either.
All my gas runned equipment for maintaing my yard, is gonna have to scaled back big time, and all the farmer and ranchers, who are already suffering
in my community, are going to have scale back too!

Also if the states themselves work with the Fed gas tax cut ...as in Iowa...Govenor Chet Culver is talking about a state gas tax cut for the summer also. So if each state would reduce their tax and combine that with the Federal the savings would be even greater.
Iowa gas right now today is $3.45 per gallon. It is killing Iowans already to fill their tanks. Remember most of Iowa is rural and people drive distances to work each day. I myself drive 30 miles one way each day to work that is 60 miles a day and then add my congregate site drops and meals on wheels that need to be delivered to drop sites. I put on a good 500 plus miles a week on my car.
I drive a KIA spectra 5 door and it gets good mileage but it still cost me $54.00 to fill the last time and this is getting rediculous!

I read yesterday that at gas station in Queens (NYC - where I'm from) the price was $4.07. Unbelievable!
And Landlords are arguing (as they do every year) that the exorbendt cost of fuel requires them to raise rents on apartments between 10 and 15% (NYC has rent laws that stabilizes a number of apartments, about 1 million, which aren't in the free market, determined by their rental price of less than $2,000 a month) -
People I know can't afford a 10% rent increase- OY!

At least $4.00 here in NoCal . . . good thing we have a hybrid!
When we were in France last year, it was 6 Euro per liter - which equates to 22 euro per gallon.
Makes me feel a bit silly for complaining . . . but then again part of that is taxes that pay for their universal health care. Frankly, I think I'd rather have the health care then cheap gas.

SUCKY SUCKY SUCKY
Northern Wyoming. My husband owns his own business and he is a "mobile" mechanic That means going out in the middle of Bum F*** and fixing whatever old, rusty, on-it's-last-legs piece of farm equipment is broken down. (and just so you know...everwhere is the middle of you know where here in Wyoming.) Our cost of doing business has risen faster than we can raise our "service call" fee. Clients seem to understand but we hate having to raise prices every few weeks but no choice. 3.69 unleaded today, diesel 4.33

The lowest price I paid last week was $3.54 a gallon; but places like Bevery Hills it can easily be up to $5.00 a gallon for premium/super.
Yesterday mroning a newschopper was hovering over my area, the Westside of L.A. and I saw on the news, it was channel 5 and they were hovering over a corner gas station that was selling gas at $4.99 a gallon...and noted that the station was EMPTY. LOL
Crazy! Gee I wish I recalled when gas was .99 a gallon. Sigh...

Here in the L.A. area which, admittedly, covers a vast amount of space and economic zones, I haven't seen anything LESS than $3.99 (for 87 octane--which, thankfully, is what Toyota says to use), and have personally seen prices up to $4.79. However, on one of the local newscasts last week [which I didn't see--I only saw the promo] they had a picture of a price sign from a local gas station. Its prices? Sit down first...
$4.99, $5.09, and $5.19
