(CNN) — Barack Obama will hold a press conference Tuesday on Rev. Jeremiah Wright's most recent comments, the Illinois senator said.

Responding to supporter's comments in defense of his former pastor, Obama said would hold a "big press conference" during which he would address the issue.

Its on Foxnews Right Now.

He's further denouncing Wright's statements. Didn't know Wright like he thought he did. Calls Wrights comments divisive, and not representative his views or views of other blacks.
Says Wright is antithetical to his campaign and what America stands for.

they do so many marvelous things with technology these days: will there be a little gauge on screen while he talks so we can know if it's his left brain or his right brain talkin'?

mebbe if I were AfAm I could tell, but we people of other colors need to know! Maybe keep it low-tech and real rather than the closed caption brain maching: Obama could point to either one side of his brain or the other as he speaks!

I think it is great for BO to try to make speeches addressing Wright. First, it keeps it alive in the media and, second, it makes him look like a hypocrite. The general consensus is that Wright was BO's mentor as he was the inspiration for him to write his book. He has appeared with the man at countless events and has continually donated money to his causes. These are verifiable facts. For him to continue to try and denounce Wright makes him look like a lying politician. The white voters see what he is doing and the AA voters won't like the manuever. It is a lose lose for BO so go right ahead and make speeches while our girl goes on to make history.

What a FAKE!!! PUHLEEZZZZ, the fake indignation is too much! For over a month we have heard from pundits from the MSM how WE just didn't understand the Black Church or Rev. Wright, shame on us, the racists. Now they are ALL back-peddling on this B.S. What is so different today, did Rev. Wright have a nervous breakdown? on an egomaniacal trip ranting about divisive issues to stir up trouble because he's jealous of BO?

Wow, he kicked Wright to the curb, claims not to know about Liberation Theology -- such crap. We are all now going to be told that Obama broke up with Wright -- get on with this wonderful, inclusive, unifying Man -- go elect him now, Americans. The worst is over, Wright is gone now.

My dad, who is a Hillary supporter, marched in the million man march. He didn't give a crap about Farrahkan or his Nation of Islam. He did it because he wanted to show America that there were at least 1 million men that cared about their families and that were not in jail, etc. It was to dispell the image that all black men were trouble. My dad is part of the silent majority of black men that you never hear about because they don't get in trouble.

Unfortnately, this good idea came from Farrahkahn. It was a mixed bag for my dad, but the majority of those men that marched that day didn't not care about Farrahkah. They did it for their families.

Obama being close to Rev. Wright who participated in talks w/Farrahkahn may have been there for others reasons. I do not know.

Barack Obama, March 28, 2008, “The View”
“Had the reverend not retired and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country for all its flaws, then I wouldn’t have felt comfortable staying there at the church.”

But the truth is, that isn't all that I know of the man. The man I met more than twenty years ago is a man who helped introduce me to my Christian faith, a man who spoke to me about our obligations to love one another; to care for the sick and lift up the poor. He is a man who served his country as a U.S. Marine; who has studied and lectured at some of the finest universities and seminaries in the country, and who for over thirty years led a church that serves the community by doing God's work here on Earth - by housing the homeless, ministering to the needy, providing day care services and scholarships and prison ministries, and reaching out to those suffering from HIV/AIDS.As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me. He strengthened my faith, officiated my wedding, and baptized my children. Not once in my conversations with him have I heard him talk about any ethnic group in derogatory terms, or treat whites with whom he interacted with anything but courtesy and respect. He contains within him the contradictions - the good and the bad - of the community that he has served diligently for so many years. I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother." [Race Speech, March 18, 2008]

So which is it, Senator?

After hearing Wright speak at the NAACP, he made it clear that the big flap was "all about politics". I believe he was sending Obama a message that it was OK to denounce him for political gain and that their relationship would not be harmed. Although Wright claims that he has no involvement in politics, it's apparent all this is a set-up to get Obama in office.

Wright has even twisted everything around and is now saying that these attacks are not about him but about the black church. He continues the victim mentality.....is this the way he thinks he can pressure AA to support Obama?

Again, which is it? First the MEDIA and the Kook-Aid surrogates were downplaying Wright -- praising him and the wonderful Black Church that rest of us just didn't understand. Now what will they say? Barack says change your lockstep in this direction and so they will all go there now?

Here's one, the Truth: BO is a leftist, hangs out with them, and has been one for years. I know people in San Antonio -- leftists who are supporting him, look at Kos and Arianna and all of their crew -- big time leftists. But, being that Hillary is bringing in the centrists and those right of center, and winning -- he is LOSING, LOSING, big time. So, BO is doing what is politically expedient. That will NEVER change who he is inside and how naive, unwise, lacking in judgment, and basically immature he is -- NOTHING WILL CHANGE WHO HE REALLY IS.

I just can't wait until Wright & Co. turn on him and backlash against him.

Farrahkan is rediculed because he speaks from anger and speaks what he really thinks. I actually like some of the things he says but most people cannot separate the good from the bad. It is just easier to label him as bad.
I would not disrespect Obama so much if he would just stand up for what he really believes.
I am curious, do you think the Black community will understand him saying what he said just because he has to in order to be the nominee?

um ... oh, I've got it: it's Hillary's fault. Hillary made Wright do that. Hillary is paying Wright to embarrass Obama because Obama gave a beautiful speech. Got it? It's all really unfortunate that clean Obama had to be dragged down to the gutter with Hillary's campaigns successful attempt to make Rev. Wright seem to be what he was not when Barack knew him. When Barack knew him, he was fine although loud. He thought maybe we were put off by Wright because he was loud. But now that Hillary has stepped in to Barack's life, he is personnally hurt by what Wright was forced to do - plus it detracted from his seeing the folks bussed in to support his stump speechs. Furthermore, everytime Barack and Michelle have their anniversary, this dirty tactic by the Clinton Campaign will harm their memories and celebrations. So it was completely unfair and he won't agree to another debate.
There, now. There are the talking points for the "progressive" crowd. they can make it a little more succinct: it's Hillary's fault.

Actually, that's not so far-fetched. I heard those exact talking points from Mika and Joe S. this morning. Is Hillary paying Wright to do this? Yep, that's what they said.

I heard Joe Scarborough and Mika saying that very thing early this morning. Of course, Joe was half joking, but Mika was with her "hmmm, hmmmm, ya never know, wierder things have happened..." Mika is evil. I clearly recall her saying the day after CBS broke the Rev. Wright story, Mika clearly said, "...do you think that Hillary is behind this?" I am amazed at the B.S. that has been spewed out against Hillary. This is definitely one of Mika's all time worst. Her father works for McCain and her brothers work for Obama, so go figure. Ultimately, the crap is thrown out there, and Hillary is the recipient of all THEIR LIES, LIES, MORE LIES.

" doesn't that sound like he is egging him on????

ALSO what makes Andrea think this Wright is discredited? the NAACP were sure thanking him and Bill Moyers...

I think some will support him no matter what because they are just desperate to have a black president. I would like to see a black president too, but I'm not willing to put America in the hands of an inexperienced politician.

I have seen at least one youtube video that showed an AA that was upset with BO for making his initial remarks disowning what Rev. Wright said in those videos. He called BO a fraud and said he wasn't voting for him. Who knows there may be others.

I just wanted to clear up the misconception that I've seen in these discussions about why someone would march in the million man march.
Thanks, mussgrrl. It's important to see it from your dad's perspective, and to know that he's a strong and independent thinker who stands up for him family--and who's supporting Hillary. I can't tell you how important it is to have that confirmed, for me at least.

Let's not forget that BO put Wright on his spiritual council of his campaign. And he referred to Wright as his uncle. Something really ticked Wright off that's for sure. Something happened between them after the race speech. Obama must have gone back on a promise to make him something in the Oval Office; but it was a really bad rift. Yes, now Wright is going to hit back. He already was telling us everything Obama does is a political move. Is this a campaign or a soap opera?

Game Plan:
It is too late for him to denounce him now. He should have done it a long time ago. At the very least in his speech in Philly although I personally think it should have been the day he walked in that church. He cannot say for one minute that this is not the man he knew for 20 years. The crazy man from the past few days is the same crazy man on the snippets and the same crazy man that he always was and always will be.

Obama has shown this country his poor judgement in choosing to stay with this man for 20 years and others like Rezko, Aires. He has shown the judgement he will have in choosing cabinet members .

Does anyone really believe BO would be coming out of the woodwork on this if the foul spew weren't now directed at him and hurting his campaign? Of course not! Nothing that came out of that bigoted, sexist, anti-american hate monger Wright's mouth ever bothered BO one wit until it was aimed at him.

So,finally, BO takes the appropriate moral and ethical position on this guy? Now, he's outraged? His followers and a big chunk of the media will now pivot with him, as tho this has been his moral position all along.

Nonsense! It has not been his position all along. His position, for 20 years, has been one of agreement with Wright. Of course Wright preaches like this ALL the time. BO donated tens of thousands of dollars to support it. Until he finally got the message, from the electorate, that Wright is Wrong. Until ALL the media prompted the morally bankrupt one that he must denounce, reject and appear tough! As usual, BO needs others to tell him how to have a backbone and sense of decency! I called it yesterday when I heard all the pundits explaining what BO needed to do. I'm so sick of the country trying to raise this child properly!

If you don't know your family Obama than who do you know. Like I said before. Too little too late to disown him now. Next week he will disown his Grandmother after all she is a "typical white person."

Oh and another thing.

I thought Obama was supposed to be this great uniter. He wants race relations talks and to bring people together. Hell, he would even talk to/negotiate with our enemies/terrorists since he is soooooooooo great and all that. He can change everything! Obama poops unicorns!

Anyway, he just brushed off his pastor and yes the inspiration for his book Audacity. Yet, he's not just a typical politican doing things, saying things, only for votes?! Yeah right! If he would talk to our enemies for wanting to destroy our country, he can't even talk to the man who baptised him (just heard this yesterday) married him, baptised his children, the man responsible for him finding Christianity?! BUT HE WILL TALK TO IRAN AND PLAY PATTY CAKE AND TRY TO GET THEM TO LURVE US!

He is a liar! He isn't upset with Wright. He is upset he is sinking in the polls faster than the Titanic. He spent 20 years in that church, 20 years with that "Uncle" yet he's going to hope that voters are too stupid to see he is just a snake and a fraud. 20 years and is obviously close to Wright, yet can't even sit down with him and have discussions or persuade Wright to come together and stop the race crap and America hating and it's not what Americans want blah blah blah. But wait! He thinks he'll have better relationships with Muslim countries, because he spent 4 years in Indonesia. lmao! 20 years with a crazy freak and can't even change him or shut him up but he thinks he's going to make terrorists be nice. uh-huh.

Obama is trying to distance himself from Wright with speeches full of lies and contradictions.

He said Wright was the inspiration for his book "Audacity of Hope". He has also called him his mentor and "uncle". Said he couldn't disown him anymore than he could his white grandmother. But now he is disowning him!

Every step of the way, Obama contradicts himself and lies. If we are to believe that Obama really didn't know this guy, then he is very careless in this relationship and others. Not a good characteristic for a president.

If he is not telling the truth (which I believe is the case), he is not a good candidate for president.

Either way, he is disaster!!! Either he didn't know him or he did. We now hear totally the opposite of what he has said for years in writings and statments, which is Wright is his mentor and friend.

This Is All Planned Im Sure By Write And Obama...dont Be Fooled By Another Smoke Screen...he Doesnt Have To Denounce The Man When Write Comes Off Like A Crazy Man...this Is A Complete Set Up By Write And Obama....what A Cirus They Have Made Of This Election...

This is EXACTLY what it is, make no mistake. This whole episode of Senator Obama and Reverend Wright is a fraudelent example of trying to "bamboozle" the American People. I think it is staged. I believe it is theatrics. And I believe it is an attempt for Senator Obama to come out with bright spotlights and sound bytes to publicly turn his back on Rev Wright.

This means something far more dangerous. Because it will show how far he is willing to go with pulling the wool over everyone eyes. Because if he really did not believe he would of stated it as such when it became known.

My other opinion is that the cause is due to the ads from the Republicans that all center around Rev Wright. So by doing this now, he can argue that the ads are unfair because he has stated he did not believe his words and denounced him in front of millions of viewers on televison.

His new form of politics scares me. Because if he would of won Pennsylvania, would Rev wright have been bought out of the woodworks to all of a sudden "attack" Senator Obama. Nothing knew has happened other than he lost PA and people are now asking questions.

Why did the MSM demand that Senator Obama make another speech to denounce his [former] pastor? Do they [MSM] not know that John Q. Public are astute and intelligence enough to know and understand the difference between a man who is telling the truth and a man who is afraid of facing the truth?

Why is the MSM pundits so adamant about seeing Senator Obama’s victory, despite his poor judgments and lies? And why aren’t they taking into account those he has betrayed over the years to gain political power.

Why is the MSM overlooking the harsh way in which Senator Obama has treated his grandmother, childhood friend, political allies, such as, Alice Palmer and denounced his pastor of twenty-years Reverend Jeremiah Wright?

Why is the MSM not investigating the unsavory and unscruplous relationships that Senator Obama seems to cultivate to gain personal power.

Why does the MSM tiptoe around his friends and business associates Ayers and Rezko and his tie-in with the slain FARC leader in Colombia.

Why is the MSM not looking into his political relationship with his cousin Prime Minister Odinga in Kenya?

Why is the MSM downplaying who instigated the race card in the election?

Why is the MSM okay with him plagarizing his speeches—and to that extent, was the speech that he gave on race relationship in America in Philadelphia’s Constitution Hall, really written by him, or part of a speech that was archived within the library of Harvard or perhaps even from unused drafts from the Kennedy era? One only can speculate that this question is hanging out there.

Why is the MSM afraid to ask Senator Obama who his backers and bundlers are?

Why has the MSM not required him to supply the public with a list of his contributors?

Why is the MSM not curious as to where all his campaign money is actually coming from—such as the $30 million he supposedly received in a one month period? Is this money truly from grassroots supporters? I doubt it.

Now, in the upcoming two elections in North Carolina and Indiana, it is reported Senator Obama is outspending Senator Hillary R. Clinton, five-to-one. Amazing isn’t it? Yet, we must ask the MSM why aren’t they digging into Senator Obama’s finances as they have the Clintons? um ... oh, I've got it: it's Hillary's fault. Hillary made Wright do that. Hillary is paying Wright to embarrass Obama because Obama gave a beautiful speech. Got it?

Did they really try to say she is "paying him, or are you joking?"

no, they didn't say that she IS paying him - they just SUGGESTED that we think about that possibililty because the Press Club woman who organized the meeting for the Rev voted for Hillary. and they just SUGGESTED that maybe Wright was on her payroll. And Huffington and Hartmann each featured (the same) picture showing this woman speaking with the Rev.

I expect that next we'll find out that Hillary's campaign switched all the bowling balls at the alley...

I understand your point. I watched alot of A.A. men talk about this very thing when the march was going on. I knew Farrahkan was a racist and I was very concerned that all these A.A men were marching with him. I learned not to take it as a silent endorsement of Farrhakan. There of course are men that attended, who do subscribe to that school of thought but we can't lump these men all together. I understand your point. It is admirable that you and your father are standing up for what you believe in when it is not so popular in the A.A community. Yeah. This whole debacle is quite interesting. Now they have the media running around singing "The Sky is Falling...The Sky is Falling". The rapid fire timing is suspect. (As we now know, Axelrod helped TUCC find a PR firm to assist in damage control, and the media has been telling Barack what to do and how to do it.) But, it could be backfiring on them. Pat Robertson says HILLARY looks good

NOW BARACK O DISTANCING HIMSELF from REV WRIGHT... and saying he doesn't know him very well...DENOUNCED comments and Now denoucing again...PLEASE CAN WE NOT BELIEVE THIS CAN THIS not help him please IN and NC PLEASE VOTE FOR HILLARY!!!!!

I just got home from work, Can you believe he is now trying to distance himself & renounce Wright, he must think the american people are stupid, we all know the only reason he is doing it is because he knows his political career is going in the tank, I have always wondered if this Wright had something on him or knows that he lied to america about never hearing these comments while he was in church, that would be a good reason not to disown Wright. Just one of my theroys, Hopefully Wright will come out and blast O-Bama for todays coments, I am just loving it - I think our prayers are being answered, A leper never changes thier spots and eventually they are exposed for what they really are - I only hope the SD will figure out they cannot win with this guy in Nov. Go Hillary!!!!

Dick Morris even commenting on FOX that this "chips away" at his credibility. Like Kerry, there are those that sat in the church when Obama did and they can tell what he heard.

The statement about not being the person he met 20 yrs. ago, Morris says, what has happened in the interim....he must have know some of this......judgement questioned.

I take a different view; I don't feel bad for Obama, his supporters, for Wright's congregation, or for anyone who condoned Wright's bigoted message.

To me, Wright's message is just as hateful today as when I first heard it over a year ago.

Obama was a member of Wrights church for 20+ years; the speech at the National Press Club this weekend proves that the "G-D America" and "US of KKK-A" sermons were not the exception. And even if they were, Obama had the opportunity to denounce the sermons AND Wright in his Philadelphia speech last month. (As I said then, I thought it was presumptuous for Obama to lecture the American people on race when it is his own pastor who desperately needs to hear that lecture).

No, I don't feel sorry for anyone who made excuses for Wright's sermons, or tried to explain it all away. It was inexcusable last year, last month, and Sunday night at the National Press Club. The only difference today is that Obama has finally reached the same conclusion as everyone who has not been under his spell. Those who are can breathe a sigh of relief that their hero has finally denounced his pastor.

For me, it comes much too late to believe it's anything but politically expedient.

For portraying himself as the "UN-POLITICIAN" Mr. Obama sure did a swell impression of one this morning. It goes like this... BO "Alligators are purple". Bo "I never said alligators were purple, I said they had a slightly pink look. But that was 20 years ago." Bo "I have never been friends with an alligator nor do I think they are now, or ever were pink". Bo "I can no longer support the alligators claim that it is pink. I find that comment to be distastful and not in line with my policies." Bo "Alligators may have appeared pink but now, on closer examination, I have determined that they only made me think that they were pink and I was not paying attention when they told me so I will never be friends with an alligator again." http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd98/scoobysnakz/Smilies/778_alligator_eating_a_teasing_smil.gif

Really hard to tell at this point.....I would think that for AA's this thing is becoming very confusing. Seems like a lot of mixed messages out there?????

Yes, it is confusing, but I always try to remember that Obama is a politician first and as per his past, doesn't mind taking part in a little skulduggery to advance his cause. I'm sure that this fiasco is planned. I just had the strongest premonition that He was going to renounce Reverend Wright today, and I was right about that. I blogged this notion earlier this morning. I also have another theory in that Obama will lose this thing and perhaps knew that Wright would help him to lose it by design. Why???because I believe that Hillary and her campaign manager McCu????have a real smoking gun. I think that someone has approached Obama and told him what they had and there is proof positive. We would like you to create appearances that you will be quitting because of the denunciation of Pastor Wright. DO DO DO DO! DO DO DO DO! I know, I know, it sounds like something from a grade B movie but I wouldn't mind being right. :D:D:D

I fully agree. I just saw a brief piece on the news from OB's speech and I wanted to smash my tv. Who is he trying to fool? We all KNEW exactly who and what wright is, for months. And none of us ever even met the man. Now OB has the damned gall to claim "I didn't know"????

The only difference today is that Obama has finally reached the same conclusion as everyone who has not been under his spell. Those who are can breathe a sigh of relief that their hero has finally denounced his pastor.

I don't agree with this. He knew! He was wrignts friend. He went every sunday to hear. He wrote his books based on what he learned from wright! OB has a lot of gall to try to denounce wright now. A lot of gall. He knew! The only difference now is that wright gave proof he knew. OB has to go. He is a liar of astronomical proportions and cannot be trusted.

Obama is just not ready for prime time. He kept doing uuuuhhh and his "and's" are hi-sterical! He sounds like Lumbergh from Office Space, yet a Lumbergh with a deep aggravating smokers voice. Aaaaannnd. He is such a moron!

So will Wright make a comment now? Will Obama disown Wright, thus disowning the entire black community?

It's funny how he claims he was upset and coming out strongly against him because Wright insinuated that Obama is just another politician saying what he needs to say. So all that crap he said about Jews, Italians, white America and Americans in general was okey-dokey, but omg say something like Bwack is just another politician and Watch Out! Obama only cares about himself!

I thought the same thing! He looked so wounded and lost. So not what a LEADER should be. All the stuttering and pandering....ugh. He really will say anything!

Let's not forget about her 90 + page thesis that's so offensive to white people it's under lock and key until Nov. 5! Is Obama going to say that he's never read the thesis before and he can honestly say that he's SHOCKED at the divisive racist ideas of his wife and that her views DON'T reflect his views or the views of his campaign!

I don't believe in Obamas sincerity. I believe it was planned all along. See how quickly these events happened after Obama took off for a couple of days last week. Sorry Senator I'm not buying it. You only decide that you must distance yourself from him when the polls are showing you just might lose this thing. If by some miracle you are the nominee, see how fast you reconnect with Wright.:mad: http://apnews.myway.com//article/20080429/D90BNJCG5.html

Yep I agree, this is exactly what David Gerged advised Obama to do, be very angry at Wright -- and so far it seems like this plan is working. You can see the joy in the eyes of certain reporters, suddenly Obama's history has been reset and he can now continue being the flawless candidate he was before this story broke in March.

What worries me is that this issue was a big argument to the superdelegates to use against Obama and now it's "resolved".

Yes, you're correct. I should have worded that differently because I absolutely agree with your assessment 150%.

I should have said:

The only difference today is that Obama finally stated, for the sake of political expediency, that Jeremiah Wright's message is wrong. Almost everyone who has not been under Obama's spell reached this conclusion the first time they heard Wright speak. Those who are can breathe a sigh of relief that their hero is finally ready to admit that he recognizes this, too; even if he's not being totally honest about the timing or his motivation.

I agree with all of your comments except this - I do not think Obama has "finally reached the same conclusion as everyone who has not been under his spell". NOTHING has changed for Obama - it's all opportunism and I do not give credit to ANYTHING he says as he has consistently demonstrated that he CANNOT be trusted. Once LIES become the norm, NOTHING can be believed. His sole agenda at present is to maximize his votes - the timing of his "speeches" and "denouncements" are laughable as they expose his OPPORTUNISM.

Quite simply really if one re ressurects future perfect past tense then it probably could be conjugated better.

Mooaks,

Wow. Honestly. Wow. You know what's creepy? It's plausible! Now I'm gonna go nuts trying to figure out just what the "smoking gun" is. (There's soooo many to choose from.)

Here's a continuation of my thought. Obama loses intentionally and because of his fall out with Wright (Don't believe it) his followers will take it out on him and when Hillary gets the nod, Obamas followers or the big share of them will align themselves with Hillary in the general election, because it was their own mans fault that he did not win for them. The party will be saved, and who knows about Obamas life after Hillary wins the general and becomes the first woman president of the United States. As far as the "smoking gun", I don't really know, but I do believe that Lanny Davis knows. I know this sounds far fetched, but could it happen???? I'm really not a nut case, just trying to come up with the best scenario for her to win this thing. I think my theory is as valid as the MSM's who give him a free pass. How many undecided voters will give him a free pass now that the appearances are that he kicked his pastor to the curb.??? Are we in trouble again or is the campaign head for Hillary Clinton correct when he says to a friend, It will be all over by June 15.
He said it with a smile with no hesitation.:)

I know of many wonderful, young African American males who attended the Million Man March, so we shouldn't necessarily connect those who marched with the organizer Farrahkan.

However, if it is true that Obama helped Farrahkan organize this march, then this suggests a close relationship, even if it is only a working relationship. I think most decent people would choose not to work with somebody, even if on a worthy cause, if that somebody spreads hateful messages.

Colin Powell was skeptical of the event:
"If I was there, I would be torn between the opportunity to present a message of family and reconciliation to the group," Powell said in New York. "But at the same time I would be a little reluctant to lend too much credibility to his (Farrakhan's) leadership of the event."
http://www-tech.mit.edu/V115/N49/million.49w.html

ps. Is there real evidence that Obama was on any sort of organizing committee for the MMM?

The irony of it all... Wasn't Obama saying that they took 45 minutes at the PA debate to rake over questions he had answered on previous occasions? It was his main topic in every rally, and news coverage. Just this week alone, he's spent 168 hours explaining Wright's recent attack.

Perhaps his campaign may point that out to him. Obama v. Wright saga seems to go on and on. Good! Hillary can get out there and get her message and solutions to voters while is playing his act to deaf ears.
